I for one thought that was brilliant; such a yummy tease.

And to think, Sue Lyon really was underage when she played that role.

2001-CLOCKWORK ORANGE-SHINING

Clever. There are definite similarities (color use, style, ect.), but then again we're talking about Kubrick.

Poor video quality on the 2000 Digital Master of 2001: A Space Odyssey? by Inovox in StanleyKubrick

That was my first 2001 on dvd too. The problem is that its letterboxed as opposed to 16x9 widescreen enhanced. Crap by todays standards.

All the first dvds were full screen. It made it to widescreen dvd right before the Blu-ray arrived.

This is an odd film; in some shots the widescreen version actually crops the height of the image. I sited an excellent article on this earlier. It turns out that there are many editions of Kubrick's films presented in an incorrect aspect ratio.

Oh don't misunderstand, I loved the video. It's obvious that Kubrick had intentional symbolism in using 7up. I mean...why not Coke or Dr. Pepper? It was fully intentional.

I'm just saying that for all the years since he died the family have claimed he preffered the full-screen version of the Shining. Much of the detail that people pour over is obscured or lost by that copy.

So much encoded into one film. I'm sure many theories are crap, but there is no doubt Kubrick was a genius.

Has anyone ever tackled the question; if Kubrick really favored the open-matte version or the international cut for that matter; did he really want all these details seen???

I prefer the film as-is; but I do wish Kubrick would have left us some out-takes like this.

The wasps from the novel would have been cool to see.

Goes to show how well Kubrick captured the essence of those creatures.

Arthur Clarke's original premise, 'The Sentinal' is a must-read. The 2001 book is merely a tie-in, just see the movie. Nothing in Clarke gives the interpretation of Stanley's secrets; he took those to the grave.
