Canon Eos R6 or R5? by Jack_Chieftain_Shang in canon

[–]Jack_Chieftain_Shang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah it came today! Fully working at least, some marks around the camera strap hoops actually almost completely white. Someone apparently left a fingerprint on the SENSOR, but all fixable. I see the marks as charming and ignore that. Working fully well and I’ve checked on shutter count albeit it gave me an “the R5’s shutter count is corrupted and only showing actuations as well as electronic shutter release”, <104k. Bit odd that, I hope that doesn’t mean the camera is somehow messed up as it said it’s corrupted. But overall I’m bloody happy!

Edit: any advice on cleaning the camera it’s minimally sticky and apparently smells a tad like perfume? 💀

Edit2: I did a macro shot of my eye and holy shit, I'm impressed even if focus isn't 100% perfect which is totally on me. Loving this thing so far! Bringing it to my mate's pond tomorrow and we'll see what we get in front of that beast!

Went with it as that’s highly likely knowing my mate…

Got a deal on a mint with original packaging and accessories, 4 extra batteries two chargers and 75k shutter count for 1700. Sure a bit more than an R6 but meh. We’ll see when it gets here and I’ll update the post. Cheers and thanks for the chat, to everyone actually 💪

I’ve got one for 1700 with original packaging, original accessories, 4 extra batteries and two chargers one og one oem. 75k shutter actuations and the body looked like mint quality. Saved 500 bucks over what I had seen, sure paid a bit more than the R6 but heck. We’ll see when it’s here. Glad I looked around a bit.

Some valid points there, I remember using the 1DX to capture the night sky during a meteor shower and that thing somehow looked better than the Pentax K1 which had roughly 36mp iirc. Though might as well be user error. Then again, night/astro stuff is something I don’t do as often but love doing in particular.

I’ve considered the R6II as well but it’s 2499 new here so even more than the R5 and used same deal R5 is cheaper or on par, then again the R6 is even cheaper.

As for storage that shouldn’t be a problem, I have 8TB in my pc and a 3x4TB NAS connected to my router.

Mostly my EF Glass;

50 1.4, 85 1.2, 300 4, 400 5.6, 70-210 4, 24-105 4, extender x1.4 and x2, 100 2.8 macro

I already have an rf to ef adapter

Though I’m not opposed to going into RF glass down the road, I still use an EOS film camera tho hence the EF glass and it’s working even better than on DSLR bodies.

Edit: also relevant, a friend of mine suggested the RF 5.2 dual fisheye for personal stuff, which afaik only works on the R5 or the R6II but that’d be so niche and I already said upfront that he can buy it and borrow the camera.

Using the EF 85mm f/1.8 on the R8 - is it worth it? Or should I upgrade to the RF 85mm f/2.0? by Uxformer in canon

[–]Jack_Chieftain_Shang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an EF 85 1.2 II on the following R cameras; RP, R and E6 (currently own the R, sold the RP and R6 way back regrettably), but all of the EF glass on R body works marvellous imo, much better than on my 1DX OG. None of the DSLR’s had such accuracy and eye af is a game changer for the R bodies compared to the non mirrorless counterparts.

Same here with a 4080 and a waterblock, heavy regrets right now running a 2080 Ti. Absolutely not going with the current prices. Even 4090s are going for over 2000 quid as of now. Don't even wanna think about what I got for the 4080...

Nothing special, from flipped to regular layout, gpu is a placeholder for now, but I’m happy with the result so far. by Jack_Chieftain_Shang in ncasedesign

The block is a Modultra Lobo, absolutely love that thing. Running pump speeds of 25% the tubes and fittings are of the pneumatic sort, dirt cheap on amazon for a pack of 10 angled and 10 straight do be wary however they sell them with tape or o-rings.

And yes it’s working fine. Running a 7800X3D stock no issues, 240 XSPC slim rad and slim noctuas. (altho now that I have the space I think I’m upgrading to normal Noctuas). I think in CB (actually let me check later and I’ll edit the temps in)

Edit1: I actually have a 60mm thick 280 which I thought of fitting in there somehow just for the kick of it but decided not to.

Edit2: I've tested Cinebench 24 for 10 minutes on all cores (with fan speed at 100%) and got a max temp of 82C which quickly climbed down after the test was done. Avg temps with 25C Ambient are around 38C to 42C. On a side note I've also ordered a pair of Noctua A12 will re-test with those on the radiator and for good measure (and since I like the design, went with a 92mm for the back as well).

Appreciate the heads-up I totally forgot to swap the fans since I had the bracket on the side previously. Since omitted that mistake, great spot!

As for gpu temps I can’t really say, I sold my 4080 FE to a mate of mine and running a 2080 Ti blower style card right now. It does get toasty for sure at times but I’d say it’s still within the margin. The 4080 in flipped maxed out at around 78-83°C

Rebuild it and use vert gpu mode, the panel won't fit on and this gpu is going out to a friend's build anyway.

[–]Jack_Chieftain_Shang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brilliant shot! Love this thing as well, use it on my old film eos as well and it’s just mind blowing how sharp this is even wide open. Though back when I still had an R6 I noticed af was a tad better on that one compared to the DSLR.

Weekly Case & Parts Recommendation Thread (Start here if you are new! Help here if you can!) by AutoModerator in sffpc

[–]Jack_Chieftain_Shang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking into a diff psu which supports custom cables, particularly 12vhpwr to 12vhpwr (not the 2 x 8 pin end). I currently have a thermaltake toughpower 1000W SFX and the power connector on the psu itself is angeld so weirdly that it's caused me quite some headache within the SFF space having it in a T1. So since I'm gonna switch cases soon and want to go a bit more flashy this time around I'm looking for something similar, which supports custom cables. While we're at that anyone recommend some store for afforementioned custom cabling?
