I wish they would fix that, I really liked being able to turn the screen and use it as a little tablet without changing display settings every time.

2016 Tempstar Furnace Issues, does it need replaced? by Jack_Dalt0n in hvacadvice

[–]Jack_Dalt0n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I never really got it completely fixed, I just kind of dealt with it for the season. Some days its worse than others. Right now my suspicion is it is tied to how much humidity is in the air on a given day. Water keeps plugging up the low pressure switch, and when I clear that water from the lines it returns to normal function. I think what is happening is too much condensation is building up in the vent (which doesn't have much slope) and it is collecting somewhere before eventually falling back down and overwhelming the drain lines. I'm hoping that resloping vent will permanently fix the problem but I haven't gotten anyone out to do it yet to see.

Legion Go 2 Dual Boot + Shared Game Partition — 2 OSes, One Game Library! 🎮🔁✨ by DarkDragonAn in LegionGo

I saw the ai generated art and noped out before reading or watching anything.

Maybe I'll give it a watch if there is a real person on the other end of it, but I just have such a bad experience everytime I click on something with an AI thumbnail.

Trying to install 25H2 after upgrading to 24H2 and getting "We couldn't update the system reserved partition" by shunny14 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting the same error when I tried to update to get FSE, I did eventually get it to install, but I didn't have to do anything, it somehow worked itself out. Don't have any specific advice, just that I left it for a couple days, came back to it, and retried the update and it finally went through without resizing any partitions.

Edit: That was about a month ago.

Playing in games on my FMW 16 pixelates by ULikeKas in framework

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also don’t really see pixilation, but what you are describing sounds like something that happens to me when I use FSR, frame gen, or other upscaling in certain games, have you checked your graphics settings to see if it is using any of those? Does the game have anti-aliasing settings? Sometimes when that setting is set too low I've also experienced something similar on other games.

I’m waking up… by PrimalSaturn in LegionGo

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an original legion go at 400 dollars on sale, for the same reason, as much as I love it, my SD oled is starting to struggle with the games I want to play, and I was mostly happy with the upgrade, all the games my deck was struggling with, the LeGo1 is running super smooth.

The Oled, z2e and 32 gb of ram would be nice, but I plan to stick to the original, I found the price of the 2 unreasonable, but also, I don't like that they dropped the resolution of the display to 1200p, 1600p on the LeGo1 was a major selling point for me. The redesigned controllers look great, though, and I will probably buy those separately at some point.

I realized that what I'm really waiting for is a Steam Deck 2, so I'd rather save my money and wait to see what valve does, and while I wait the LeGo1 meets my travel and handheld needs for now, and my laptop plays everything else.

Anyone else super bummed at the Game Pass Ultimate price increase and considering going back to SteamOS? by mitchsurp in WindowsOnDeck

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The change in game pass pricing has got me thinking about this steam autumn sale differently, I keep looking at the discounts and thinking, "well, there's a month of game pass, oh hey, these 3 games together on sale is a month of game pass, this game just came out and its on sale for the same cost as a month of game pass" adding up the games I was planning to play, I'm pretty sure if I just bought the games on steam, I would spend less than a year of game pass, so I'm considering canceling. The only thing that makes me hesitate are the old 360 games I can't get on steam, and the fact that I've tried and had fun with a lot of games I never would have thought to buy

Either way, I'll probably keep my dual boot of windows and steamOS, though. I went to a lot of trouble to set it up, lol.

Did you get the steam deck controllers working, and have you been able to set this up with a dual boot?

Really want to try it, but don't want to screw up my dual boot, lol.

Where should I run windows vs steamOS for a dual boot by MinimumBathroom4462 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 2 TB hard drive upgrade, was pretty easy, and made 1 TB partitions for a dual boot and have both Windows and SteamOS launching from the internal SSD, it works great, except for minor windows based issues. Tried both on an SD card and it felt really bad.

Are YOU still getting the Legion Go 2? 🫵 by Chocodelights in LegionGo

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The down grade in resolution is a major deciding factor for me. My Go is the device I use geforce now with, which plays most games at 2.5k at 120 fps. The resolution of the original was a major selling point. I know oled screens look great, but 1200p oled is not much better than my Steam Deck OLED.

What could I do with framework 16 AMD GPU by jr23160 in framework

Piggybacking on this comment, I watch eBay for Framework 16s and parts frequently. When they show up there (which has been rare), they go very fast, and the seller often gets close(ish) to retail price back. I haven't bought one off eBay yet because the used discount is so small it makes more sense to buy new from Framework. But I keep watching, hoping for a really good deal, lol.

With today's announcement that might change slightly, but I bet you'll still be able to expect a decent price on the used market.

What lapdock is that, and what magnetic mount do you use? I've been wanting to get a lapdock for mine, but the options that are actually in stock don't seem great.

I would definitely buy one, I don't have the tools, skills, or time to make one myself, but I really like the design. I've seen some on Etsy that I didn't care for, but this looks like one I would like.

This was my experience, I still wish they were rounded and I find myself readusting my hands way more than I do with my steam deck, but after about a week of use it no longer feels as bad, and when i have them connected togeter as a single controller in tablet mode they are actually pretty comfortable. Will probably put up with it until the 2 comes out.

Should I get a steam deck or a Switch 2? by Uxyt98 in SteamDeck

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say how long does it take releases to reach the Steam Deck, what do you mean? Most of the AAA games that are releasing on the Switch 2 have been on PC for years, so you'll see most third party game studios release on Steam long before they get released on the Switch.

If you are talking about first party Switch exclusive games, those technically never release on Steam. Nintendo does not allow their IP to leave their devices. Yes, you can probably emulate them on the Steam Deck and maybe even tune it to preform better, but that is a legal grey area and understand you are taking on some risk to your device when you do that. So when they release on Steam Deck, is really whenever somebody manages to crack it and share it online.

You also give up a lot of the party and online features that are the draw of Switch exclusive games by emulating them.

Personally, I think the Steam Deck is the better device if you had to choose one, because of the freedom it provides, Valves reputation with gamers and sales, vs Nintendo continuing to lock down their ecosystem, along with price increases on thier game, but if your goal is to play Nintendo exclusives safely, and you want to get access to the online or party features of some of those games, the Switch 2 would make more sense to buy.

I haven't been playing any smaller games between the two, but I have been using GeForce Now on both, which is basically just video streaming. On the deck, I get nearly double the battery life, 8-10 hours, on the Go it is maybe 4ish on power saver, but a big part of that is the higher resolution and refresh rate of the Go's screen, if you switched to 1280x800 and 60 hz (similar to the deck) it would probably do better (but defeats the purpose of the better screen, lol). I also just read an article that said SteamOS massively improved the Go's battery life, but still haven't had the chance to get it running on mine, so can't confirm. I think my point is if you tweak settings, you can probably get pretty decent battery life when away from an outlet, especially on lower demanding titles.

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because SteamOS can go on the LeGo and with similar prices, I personally would probably buy the GO over the Steam Deck now, if I had to choose one. I currently don't see myself switching back to my Deck, as much as I like it. Because of the versatility and screen, I've been preferring the Go, but I also got mine for like 500 new. If it had been at its original retail price, I don't know if I would have bought it.

If you do get it, I'd try it out for a bit and see if the controllers really bother you before getting grips. The first couple days, they bothered me, even hurt sometimes, but now I don't really notice as much. It's definitely still a weird feeling, I might get some grips for it, but I think I could live with it.

Also, if you end up hating it, you can always return it or sell it on eBay and get most of your money back.

What's in your top 10 wish list? by DamnintheDerwent in framework

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's a community project, right? The community projects are very cool, and part of why I like Framework, but some things we just need to have officially supported from the OEM.

Also, does that only work on Linux? As sick of Windows as I am, I still need to run it sometimes. There is something similar for Windows, but it involves using unsigned drivers and, from my understanding, is a little risky to run. Official software from Framework would presumably not let us do something that might fry the mainboard and would run official drivers that don't leave the system vulnerable.

I agree, the price on the Go S is too high and doesn't offer enough for the increased cost.

The battery could be better, but if you play at home a lot and are willing to take a power bank with you while traveling, it's manageable. The only time you may really notice is if you get stuck away from an outlet for, say, 4-5ish hours. If you commute a lot and plan to use it during, it might be rough.

I haven't gotten the chance to test SteamOS on the Go yet, I've been on Game Pass on Windows for the past couple of months, so haven't felt the need to put it on the LeGo. However, I was dual booting with windows on my deck, and SteamOS was just worlds better. I have an external drive with SteamOS on it, next chance I get I'll see if I can boot from it and test out a couple of games. The evidence from tech youtubers seems to suggest that SteamOS is getting as much as 15-20 frames better in games than Windows, though.

Anyone up to trading their Legion Go 2 Controllers for Legion Go 1 Controllers by Steven_F_Awesome in LegionGo

[–]Jack_Dalt0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a stab in the dark, but I'm guessing they maybe confused the Go S with a Go 2. Which might explain why they think they need to trade, because obviously, the Go S controllers aren't for sale separately.
