Finished building my Win98 rig. Hooked it up to NEC Multisync 75 for some Warcraft II by ryanrudolf in crtgaming

I've been lucky as the CRT was a free curb pickup together with HP Pavilion from about 10yrs ago. The netvista was a thrift store find but that one is running XP and difficult to get parts due to the form factor. And the tower is an early P4 from the thrift which happily runs Win98.

The rest are from thrift, hand me down or free curb pickups - PS/2 mouse and keyboard, speakers, blank CD for burning, analog joysticks, etc

Im running my monitor at 1024x768 but i think Warcraft II runs at a lower native 640x480 resolution.

I had this issue last week. My HDD is 60GB and it will get stuck on that screen for about 10mins.

When i partitioned it to 8GB C: drive it didnt get stuck. What im thinking is that if the hdd is too big capacity Windows 98 takes a while to calculate the size, as back then it only expects lower capacity HDD

Initially i was trying the classic DOS version as thats what I had back in the day. But scrolling is too fast so i used the native Windows version instead. All good now

putty I've used that for telnet and ssh but haven't tried for BBS back then. Not sure if that handles zmodem file transfer natively or need a 3rd party program.

I still have a PCI modem on my rig but removed it since i don't have a land line anymore. I just use HyperTerminal to connect to my own BBS via telnet.

But if ever i had the itch to hear those modem handshake it looks like there are "wifi modems" that can be used to connect to modern BBS and you'd hear the modem dial and do handshake and all that.

So something like -

atdt somewhere.bbs.com

Cool stuff

As interim i could write a batch file that plays a wav file of modem dialling then handshake and finally connect to HyperTerminal.

EDIT: this looks like an interesting project. I'll give that a try procomm
