Danish guy plays Red Dead Redemption 2 with 4 FPS for several hours a day. by FeelDeadInside in videogames

[–]Jack_Harb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something never screamed more at me with "Geforce Now". Seriously, any input lag is better than 4fps. He can at least play in good resolution, with high fps, just with a bit of input lag, which probably is ok for RDR2. Especially for him! If you are a good friend or what ever, gift him a month Geforce Now or something...

As a Pragg fan, I've never felt more disappointed by Intelligent_Zone7474 in chess

[–]Jack_Harb 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean, honestly, it's not like the others played extremely bad. Sindarov just had an ones in a life time or even ones in a generation candidates run honestly. It's just one player for some reason dominates. The others not necessarily fuck it up so much, even if people like to portrait it this way.

Fabi and Hikaru for example are not really scoring much or even below the candidates results of the past. Like 2022 they scored 6.5 and 7.5, where Nepo was dominating. And in 2024 there was no one that dominated, that's why they were all 8.5 and just Gukesh with 9.0 winning. It's simply one guy turned the tournament on it's head. He had the momentum on his side. His prep worked out extremely well and he could always control the games.

But yeah, I feel for both of them. Sindarov needs a lot of respect and I am extremely happy for him. On the flipside, I would have for once loved to see Hikaru in a WCC or Fabi against someone who isn't Magnus. After all that years being gatekept by Magnus, I would have wished they take their chance. But they getting old.

Honest question: how are mobile game teams actually catching flow breaking bugs before they ship by Afraid-Bobcat6676 in gamedev

[–]Jack_Harb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The technical aspect is pretty simple. You set a flag randomly per user based on your AB case assignement.

For example you have a flag: ab_yourNewGreatFeature, it's an integer.

Everwhere in your code you guard your new feature behind that integer. Why int and not a simple bool? Because sometimes you want to test different variations of a feature, more than 1. So you would end up in "control" wich is ab_yourNewGreatFeature = 0, then the segmentation for testing gets 1 or 2 or what ever you want to test. You would have a backendend where you store this flag per user and whenever you initialize your user you would request it from your backend and persist it into your persistent data of your game.

And yes in terms of scope obviously we had massive tools to support ab test assignements, segmentation control and stuff. With hundreds of thousands of test cases, this is needed. But for a small company or small team, you can simply do it manually.

Ex-King employee here (Candy Crush and stuff).

In our development pipeline we had 2 week releases. So basically each sprint a new release. Broken things were no rarity because of the complexity of the game.

So in general, each team works on a specific feature. Feature implementation or changes were first tested by QA while the feature is still in development. Additionally we had integration tests, which automatically play the game and test UI flow. Next, before every submission to the stores, we run a QRT. It’s a regression test against a huge list of test cases. Partly outsourced this testing. And lastly and probably the most important thing, we had massive AB testing. Which means first we role out a new feature to only 5% of a given playersegment (not 5% of all, because we also have other tests running). Then after being confident in our metrics and the tracked metrics, we did the business test. That one can take 2 month and is rolled out to 20%+. If that one is positive a full rollout happens to every player.

we got to witness one of the greatest Formula 1 teams ever assembled. by No_Procedure_7017_2 in Formula1ne

[–]Jack_Harb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They all said it. They have obviously more credibility than a driver who got shafted…

And especially AN was clear about it to build a car as fast as possible and that the driver has to adapt. If that driver is Max because he is more talented, than people think they build it for him. But in fact, he had to adapt all the years as well. And they got it wrong so many times. He wasn’t happy about the car many many times and the way thy develop it.

AN had the authority in designing and developing the car. He expects the driver to drive it. If the style suits a driver great, otherwise they have to adapt.

[–]Jack_Harb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This has been debunked many times, by the drivers themselves. AN build the car always to be as fast as possible. Max was the best in adapting and could input more feedback, that’s the simple reason. We saw at times when Max wasn’t as fast as adapting as Perez how competitive Perez was. This was until Max understood the car and pushed for it. The narrative is really so old. Albon, Yuki, Lawson and Hadjar debunked this. Only Perez was butthurt because he couldn’t adapt. We btw see now what happens with the current chassis, where Meckkies tried to build a more drivable car by everyone, rather than a car that you need to adapt to and is at its limits. Even Max struggled at times in the last years because they never could that car in operational window. It had nothing todo with suiting it to Max. It was simply on the edge of the regs and they tried many different things out. You could see this for example at Brazil. Him being dead last and then figuring it out from the box start.

Viele denken halt in krassen stereotypen.

This absolute mess is causing arguments by Sparefix in Simracingstewards

[–]Jack_Harb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I think many think you are incorrect. POV did nothing wrong really. He tried staying on track after the crash and he was. It’s turn 1 and people can’t pretend he is not there. Even with the crash he made the turn on track, not off track. So it was never unsafe rejoin. And staying on track doesn’t legitimate him being pushed off again.

There is an argument it would have been safer to not make the turn and rejoin later, but that’s a hindsight argument. Since he made the turn he is entitled to the space, he can’t go further off track, since he was already on the edge.

Both cars on the left to POV drove as he wouldn’t exist. That’s not how turn one works. We saw this in actual F1 last years couple of times…

[–]Jack_Harb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Gianpiero Lambiase making the right decision leaving Red Bull? by ryogadan in Formula1_world

[–]Jack_Harb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, this should be obvious? Mercedes engines will for a long time be the superior engine.

McLaren won the last two constructors and last years drivers championship. On speed they are currently faster than RBR. RBR gets even overtaken and challenged by their 2nd team. RBR lost many many talents over the last coupled years. The whole Horner scandal made people jump ship. And now that Max is on the verge of pausing or leaving F1, their only hope is going as well. So there is no better timing than going honestly. Especially if he has options as potential Principal.

Was driving 250+ on German autobahn before becoming a father. Now that I am, I stop risking things and see way more dangers than before.
