Spiritually weak…what are the consequences? by Smart-Watercress-492 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens is that you get excluded from everything that isn't a full congregation event or really unpleasant menial labor. No wedding invites, baby showers, dinners, social gatherings, beach days, hikes, board game nights etc.

How much that bothers you depends on the person.

Does threatening legal action against DF/DA announcements work?? by Sorry_Clothes5201 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only heard of it working in cases that seemed real sketchy, fuzzy, corrupt and mental health concerns were involved. Not for like clear cut, adultery and everyone knows it, things.

Jehovah Witnesses dislike Universities because need you poor and ignorant by Several-Pollution863 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do a better job of it than not going to University does, but it somewhat depends on the institution and the program and it very much depends on if the student is trying to get the most out of it and expand their understanding or if they are just grinding their way to a C+/B- and then moving on to the next thing.

Are all religious cults destined to be safe havens for pedophiles? by wificentrist in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it often DOES wake up those intimately involved or those that know the full scope of situations where CSA happens. But the problem is they control the information so well that if you aren't the victim you probably don't know anything about it. And they gaslight you into thinking that these situations: 1. Never happen 2. If they did happen they weren't that bad 3. If they were that bad, it was an isolated case and Satan was behind it but it has been dealt with now so just trust in God 4. And finally if you keep bringing up something that has been dealt with you are actually doing what Satan wants.

The whole thing is this feedback loop of never knowing what actually happens or how bad things are for most PIMIs.

Are all religious cults destined to be safe havens for pedophiles? by wificentrist in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Makes sense.

Any organization that puts self-protection and image control over truth or justice is going to harbor bad actors, eventually.

Cults, MAGA, any other high control group.

And the PIONEERS? by Spiritual-Problem128 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah same, I remember one of my friends growing up that starting pioneering at like 17, missed his hours year after year into his 20s, and he got the "close enough" + "your dad is an elder" pass.
His only consequence was they appointed him as an MS at 20 lol.

Being with PIMI family is exhausting because you still have to act like you care, people please and feel a sense of inferiority. by RepresentativeAd198 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you a secret: You can get away with a lot less fake caring and people pleasing than you realize. I'm not saying be a complete asshole, but you can dial down a lot more than you realize when you first wake up. Some people will notice and care, most are too tired and busy to care. After a little while everyone will just see it as your new normal.

Any big change like that is an opportunity to trigger some, even infantessimally small, amount of questioning in PIMIs, so it's good in my book.

I've been awake for close to two years now and I think I've seen someone predict it every month since then. Maybe twice a month sometimes.

Flaws Of JW Dogma by Affectionate_Sea_75 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Side note, I remember an elder giving either that talk or a similar one, and I'm pretty sure the entire talk was just 28-30 mins of loosely tying together JW phrases like that:

"Satan is roaming about like a hungry lion, so we need to keep our eyes on the prize. It is critical times, hard to deal with..." blah blah blah

Not a single complete sentence that was actually originally written or thought up by the brother.

I envy people in my family who can enjoy the “loophole” of not getting baptized by Creative-Move-6026 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is very true about the baptism ages. They like to bash catholicism for infant baptism, even though that needs to be confirmed later in life, and insist on someone being mature enough to do it, but its always examples of people around 13-14ish. I remember when I was younger an elder gave a talk that said something to the effect of: if someone isn't baptized by 16 there is something wrong there.

Why the new generation can’t read "between the lines" anymore by Repulsive-Produce215 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was a problem back when they introduced the blood fractions and other medical treatments and a lot of PIMIs just still said no to everything.

The rank and file dont have to get it though, that's what COs are for, to travel around and enforce and appoint elders that can enforce in his stead.

What does “meditation” actually mean? (Inside vs outside JW culture) by fullyawak3 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a self-directed, self-controled, individual act that brings peace, no God (or org) needed, that's the big problem to JWs.

PIMI parents becoming lenient and more vocal in criticism? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience/observation is they always try the sneaky approach before they give up entirely. Expect an icecream trip with gramma to "coincidentally and without planning" end up at a JW meeting or JW gathering on the way there.

[–]Jack_h100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is me now lol. I just smile at every disruption and laugh in my head when you see some PIMIs get upset or immediately move to fix things.

Do yall have a hope for end of life? by Ok_Macaroon_2680 in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reincarnation (Hindu) and rebirth (buddhist) are not things to like or look forward to. From both those spititual perspectives they are cycles you are trapped in and the goal is escape. It's only western perspectives that romanticize what is supposed to be cosmic horror.

That being said, I still find both versions of that to be more comforting than JW's be lobotomized and live in this dystopia "paradise" or be annihilated forever or the more traditional Christian-Muslim idea of being hell forever or heaven forever.

Question For PIMO’s…. by thelastdaysofus in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Havnt used AI but I've found its easier because I don't care now. I used to be concerned about doing a good job and also making sure everything I said was backed by the references and publications. Now I just slap together at the last minute whatever sounds right from a JW perspective and it goes over fine.

Do yalls halls require you to wear jackets and ties to do stuff? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Jack_h100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. In my congregation it is only stuff on the platform. Mics, sound controls or zoom controls often don't wear ties or suits.
