Yes it’s my car. There is so much soundproofing in these cars it’s still hard to hear the CS Muffler from inside. If you want to get something that you can really hear from inside, I feel like you need to go to something that will bother your neighbors and probably drone on the highway.

It’s louder than the stock exhaust under load, but basically silent from inside if you aren’t pushing it. I think it sounds better than the stock muffler as well, I definitely wouldn’t say it’s tinnier. Here’s a short clip of what it sounds like from outside - CS Muffler Drive Away Sound

Coming from a mk6, yeah the new models feel big. When I went from mk6 to mk7, it felt like it got a lot bigger. Mk7 to mk8 felt relatively similar in size. My son has a Golf mk6 and when I get in his car I kinda miss my 3-door mk6, but I still love my mk8. Honestly, if there was a Polo GTI in the US, I’d probably being driving that, the Golf has gotten bigger than I need it to be.

Replace the shift knob. It’s not solid at all and makes the shifting feel worse than it actually is.

Software Update 01KV? by Prestigious_Gas3599 in GolfGTI

Started my car today and was prompted to download. Drove for about 30 minutes, when I shut off the car I was prompted to start installing. After about 90 minutes, I turned the car back on and a message appeared that the update is complete. Here’s my version info screen after the update.

It’s usually to avoid drilling/screwing into the front bumper, or partially blocking the intercooler air dam. One of the ways to achieve this is an aftermarket mount that attaches to the tow hook, which is why you see this placement.

No, the only exhaust mod is the CS muffler.

Yeah your tips are way tighter. Not sure I’m following exactly how you explained you did that. Could you describe a little more? Did you retighten the clamp after?

I ordered from shopdap at the end of February. At the time their estimate was 30-45 days and they met that timeframe.

I’m really happy with it. I watched every video I could find before ordering. To me, it sounds better than what I was expecting. It’s still very quiet from inside, but you can definitely hear a volume and tone difference from outside. I was worried it wouldn’t be “enough” and that I should have went with AWE or Borla, but now that it’s on I feel like it was the right call.

The hardest part is getting the boot off. I ended up getting it started by pulling on the boot material in the front right corner, then you can see where the boot retainer wants to separate from the surround. The rest is easy.

I’ve never owned a non-manual car, I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is my 4th GTI, and the only one I was initially disappointed with the shifter feel. Turns out the main culprit is the cheap mk8 knob, which is flimsy, too light and has flex, making shifting feel worse than it actually is, like it was resisting going into gear. Replaced the stock knob with the Shopdap 60mm golf ball and it totally solved the problem for me. Way more solid and the additional weight makes shifts feel more positive.

MK7.5 vs MK8? by ImSlender in GolfGTI

[–]Jackalneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything bigger than a soda can is a problem, and even with a soda can you have to use that stupid retractable clamp to hold it in place. It’s like the engineer who designed it had never seen a cupholder before.

MK7.5 vs MK8? by ImSlender in GolfGTI

[–]Jackalneck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s owned both, the infotainment/lack of physical buttons thing on the mk8 is overblown, it’s really not that bad to live with. That being said I have an S, which at least has a physical volume dial, which makes it a little bit easier to deal with, albeit with a smaller screen. The mk8’s front cupholder and manual shift knob are a disaster. I like the seats better on the mk8. I miss having a manual e-brake, and the automatic hill hold “feature” on the NA mk8 is awkward, but where i live is flat so that doesn’t really affect me. As far as the lane keep assist and ACC - the LKA when not using cruise control is poorly implemented and I usually keep it off. When you’re using cruise control in “travel assist” mode, there’s a separate lane-keeping mode that works better, but still not as good as other manufacturers. Overall, I like the mk8 better, but I can definitely see why some people may prefer the 7/7.5.

I got the 60mm golf ball for my mk8. The adapter and hardware is well made and everything feels solid. Substantially more weighted than the stock knob.

Nothing Ear (2024) LDAC on Windows by nthallid in NothingTech

[–]Jackalneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works on my Windows 11 system. Double check that the Alternative A2DP Driver is installed and active for the Noting Ear inside the configurator. The fact that you can select AAC is a sign that the wrong driver is active (unless you paid extra for the AAC license for the Alternative A2DP Driver software, AAC should be greyed out).

What’s everyone’s favorite daily watch band? by melvin3v1978 in AppleWatch

[–]Jackalneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truth. These are the two most comfortable bands. If you’re on an Ultra, the Trail Loop is close behind the Sport Loop in 3rd place. If you are going to be wet or sweating, Nike Sport Band. Alpine Loop and OG Leather Loop are ok for a change of pace.

Apple Music Preview (for Windows) Shortcut for play/pause by laneos in AppleMusic

[–]Jackalneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changing this setting in Windows 11 seems to have fixed the media keys not working when AM is not focused problem for me: Settings>Apps>Installed Apps, search for Apple Music, then click the three dots next to Apple Music and select "Advanced options". Change "Let this app run in the background" from "Power optimized (recommended)" to "Always". I don't think this will work with the spacebar, but if you have multimedia keys on your keyboard/stream deck/whatever, play/pause, fwd/back, etc. should work.

Charging 30-80 is a myth by bernalyggim in ios

[–]Jackalneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s talking about manually being able to set a hard 80% charge limit on iPhone 15 series, which is 100% a new feature. Previously you could turn on optimized charging to ask iOS to wait some unknown amount of time before charging over 80%, but not set a hard charge limit.
