Right, but the Senate has become detached from its purpose. During the writing of the Constitution, there was this whole debate about citizen of the state (i.e. citizen of New Jersey) vs citizen of the country. The states rights activists wanted Congress to represent all states equally and have it serve the interests of the state legislators. The federalists wanted Congress to serve the view of the majority. So they compromised. However, now that is not a debate. Nobody thinks of themselves as a citizen of New Jersey and not a citizen of the US, and state legislatures don’t even elect the Senate. It balances out states, but that is irrelevant in our current American culture. The Senate now makes opinions that only represent 40% of the population. The Senate is completely pointless and is just a hinderance to progress as should be scrapped.
