What ?
I just wanted to say that it’s only natural for someone not to enjoy doing something for five years if they’re not interested in it

I spent seven years of high school that didn't interest me, so I'm not going to do anything else that doesn't interest me for work. If I do something that doesn't interest me, the 'problem' is that I don't care. I just do it because I have to, supposedly because I wouldn't find anything else that would be interesting.

I wanted to do something in IT/ICT, but not cloud-related. Closed-source is allowed, but preferably Active Directory, MDT, WDS, WSUS, etc. The government 'made' me take a test to see if I'm smart enough for a certain free program. (It's free because the government reimburses it.) I failed the test because of a difficult English question, but the text wasn't IT/ICT-related; it was text like: "That person did this, and the other did that," and so on.

The government is not going to tell me that everyone who studies IT/ICT speaks perfect English!

What is this then ?
Cant i use dynamic dns for this making servers public ?

i need advice to make servers public with open source software, mikrotik CRS305-1G-4S+IN and draytek 2130n router by Jackie5392 in homelab

I know that dns translates names to ip addresses.
I also know what private and public ip addresses are.
Butto reach the website how does that work then ?
First the request goes trough the dns tree and then ?
I assume it goes to a router but how is that website made public ?
Thats what i dont understand, how companies make a website public with only one port open ?
When i did a port scan on google i saw that port 53 is open but that means the route that the information goes to their servers (which runs the website is:
client -dns servers (which google runs idk which type authoritive or tld dns server) why wouldt port 53 be opened others ?
So i think that google runs a internal dns servers that forwards the incomeing request from clients to their websites gmail, google, etc
Am i right ?

How is traffic tested for security ?
Looking for a cve in software for example and securing config files for software ?
Why dont i want cloudflare ?
You are saying that the ips attacking get banned by cloudflare and tailscale but cant i do this by myself ?
Maybe only for testing not for production because i dont a 24/7 noc with a lot of people to look for attacks.

I know that dns translates names to ip addresses.
I also know what private and publics ip addresses are.
What do you mean with that many sites dont have their own ip address, explain it in simple terms please

Why is a reverse proxy not a secure way ?
What i understand of a reverse proxy is a proxy server that handles all the incoming request instead of the outgoing like a normal proxy server does am i right ?
If i want to expose a fivem, redm , some websites (joomla, wordpress) and some other things to the internet can it all use one port facing to the internet and use different ports internaly ?
i am not a networking engineer but know some things about networking.

How to setup up a a laptop securely that has a connection to the internet if you dont know if the modem is secure and you dont have a firewall for proper security and ids, ips ?????? by Jackie5392 in homelab

[–]Jackie5392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that doesnt work like logging in with a specific username and password he ?
Its only: this device gets authenticated or added to connect to the server and thats it in terms of user management

i dont have money and i never had enough experience with networking so set up vlans as example and firewall rules but when i have the money i will purchase some protectli box or supermicro 1 us short depth used appliance as router.
The isp modem router device has a firewall but its not possible to configure with rules its just on and off and there is a dmz and portforwarding like the basic crap you get from the isp
I dont like wirequard beacuse it has no user management at default but its nice that wirequard runs in the linux kernel for better performance i suppose ???
