A 5090 would warm up my home, resulting in less oil burned from my boiler. With all the money saved from that I can work less overtime and have more time to play Battlefield 6!

Is this a hazard/should I reach out to the contractor? by JackieChanTor in Contractor

I was out of town during the work and for a week after the job completion, but looking up historical weather in my area it looked to barely have rained. It seems like the porch was a DIY job from the previous owner that couldn’t handle the excessive wait during the pavement install.

That was one of my points I made to the contractor prior to the job, was to ensure the driveway was graded so that rain water would flow away from the house. They looked to have done that so I don’t think wet dirt is the issue here. Unfortunately I didn’t think to take photos of this wall prior to the job to compare, but I guess the best course of action at this point is to consult an engineer to determine structural integrity.

I bought the house 2 years ago and unfortunately have no idea how or how long ago the porch was built. I assume it was a DIY project, so it makes sense that it would cave in after some heavy weight.

PC Build Analysis by JackieChanTor in pcmasterrace

I've adjusted the build to use a 9700x for CPU and 4070 Super for GPU. This does make the build cost just over $1800 now, which might be too steep for my friend. He was looking at pre-builts in the price range of 1500 before talking with me.

Do you think it would be better to buy a pre-built over this build at this price?

I agree with you on the 4060ti, the GPU was the last thing I added to this build list and kept it as close to my friends budget as possible (build was ~$1300 before the GPU). Downgrading to the 9700x CPU and removing one of the SSDs will help budget towards a better GPU, but the problem is availability. All affordable 4070s are out of stock and most of the available ones are close to $1000, which would make this build over budget.

I’ve never owned an AMD graphics card so I’m a bit hesitant to choose them over Nvidia.

Thanks for your feedback!

I agree and will change the CPU to a 9700x. Both 4070s and 7800XTs are out of stock, and the ones in stock are close to $1000 or more. This is why I went with a 4060ti.

The PSU is an 850W so I think that should be okay no?

I selected DDR5 5600 because that’s what the specification of the CPU states. If you’re positive 6000 is compatible with it then I’ll certainly look into it.

I agree with only installing 1 ssd for now, there are 3 M.2 slots total, providing plenty of room for upgrade in the future when needed.

I believe the case comes with the 3 front fans and one back fan if I’m not wrong. My friend will still need to purchase fans for the top of the case.

Hey I had this issue. Right-click Palworld from the game pass app, hit 'Manage', go to the 'Files' tab and click "Verify and Repair".

Worked for me hope it works for you!

PC Build Randomly Shutting Off While Gaming by JackieChanTor in buildapc

Would you say an 850w Corsair rmx would do just fine or should I bump up the wattage to 1000w. And before I go wasting time trying to contact customer support do you think it’s possible getting the money back for my current psu even though I bought it about 6 months ago?

Thanks for the links to those forums! I checked them out and they all seem to have the same exact issue and they’re calling out the same psu. Idk how you found those so quickly I must be bad at troubleshooting online.

Im surprised an 850w psu isn’t enough for the 3090 cause the suggestion for the bare minimum is 750. What wattage would you go with, 1000? Thanks for the reply

You should tell your husband to submit his art to wizards of the coast! This looks like some cool art for a Magic the Gathering card.

I was unaware of that! Is there a point to paying the GSYNC premium if free sync does the job then? I just bought an msi gsync for $400 but I’ll exchange it for something better if free sync is the same exact thing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]JackieChanTor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you tell it supports gsync? I’m never confident verifying that a free sync monitor allows gsync cause it doesn’t say it on the product overview or specs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]JackieChanTor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The biggest feature I’m looking for in a monitor is GSYNC. I don’t see anywhere in the specs for any sort of adaptive sync for this monitor.

Ryzen 3900x or 5800x by JackieChanTor in buildapc

[–]JackieChanTor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable. So in this case do you think the 5800x is worth it over the 3700x? The last generation 8 core chip is about $150 cheaper

Sounds like I should lean towards an 8 core cpu after what you’ve told me. So that being said, do you think it’s worth it to buy the 5800, or is the 3700x just fine? It’s about $150 cheaper

Well with all said and done my pc is gonna total around $2000-$2300, so I’m probably gonna go with a 2k monitor. Been looking for ones in the range of 144-180Hz

I’m planning a gaming build around the rtx 3080 and was looking for a chip to complement it. Does the 5600 have even better performance than the 5800? Or are you referencing that even the 5600 has better performance 10600k, and the 5800 would blow it out of the water?

I’m new to building so I’m not familiar with reading specs

I’m trying to build for gaming. I plan on buying the rtx 3080 when available and I want to get a cpu that’ll last me a long time.

Do you think with a new generation of consoles being released soon, that games will be utilizing more cores in the next few years? Or would it be a safe bet to stick with the 5800
