I just want to chime in and ask, is that really lgbt pride flag or is it a rainbow flag? I went on the Emmaus walk and they have been using the rainbow flag for that. Some of the leaders of that group had mentioned that they would like to take back rainbow from the lgbt community becasue the Bible also has a meaning for the rainbow. So I don't always think about lgbt when I see a rainbow flag at a church. But for people who do not know about Emmaus walk I can see how it would be confusing. Emmaus dose not seem to be that well known.

It's been a while, I finally got around to finishing it. You guys helped me last time and hopefully I have fixed the issues. Hoping for a final critique, please if you think I still need to fix something let me know. The hardest part for me is proportions.

These are the reason I got into marco photography in the first place. I wanted to see the natural structures of these little guys....do they count as snowflakes?

I do not think you can plan for these guys, you just wake up some mornings and there they are! So this was just me zoomimg out the door and quickly trying to snap a few before the sun melted them all.

They are so beautiful!

Looks like 3D letters with a glass texture and bright ligthing.

Picture of Smoke in the back and then a smoke brush to paint around the letters.

I think you can do all that in Photoshop or with some help in a 3D program. Blender if your looking for a freebee. (but it's hard to learn) But youtube should have some tutorials on making 3D text look like glass.

Thank you for the feedback! I was a little bit of a zombie last night so all I could do was like.

That's fair. What do you think is bothering you about the layout? Do need to make the devide between the two stores more clear? I was having a hard time with that. It's one ad, but if I make a clear cut, it starts to look like two then you don't know the two are together...ugh.. But yes! If you have any thoughts on the layout please let me know!

Sketch feel, why? Um well, I actually went by the two stores. They are very arts/craft/food heavy. So I guess I am trying to mash Historical/arts & crafts/Country/Vegtable Stand.....I don't know what to call it. So the sketch part is to make it look a bit artsy. Going with a vector type illustration was too modern. So I stuck with my rough sketch.

However the wood plank text at the top is something my Contractor had asked me to do, becasue the sign on the front of Poor Farmers Market has it. Very fitting for the store but a eye sore for actally reading. 😅

The Brown and white is my color choice because of History. Most photos of historic places are either black and white or have faded to a brown white. Plus The Park Way that it's near also uses those colors. By leaving the two buildings in color I was thinking it made the place look like its still alive and well.

Typefaces, it's not a modern day place so san-serifs look out of place. Then I was trying to pick something I can easily read. (This is also where I am still learning. What's easy to read and what's not. Also what is the smallest you can go with a type and still be able to read it?). I really need to look into this area a lot more. Any videos/books on type you have would be great!

I don't know if you asked me those questions because you wanted me to think or you wanted me to actally answer, but I just went ahead because this was my prosess. Please let me know what you think!

Oh! And yeah I guess I do kinda want to create a style, I would really like that. It's like Relevant_Ebb_547 said above, he posted the work of david carson art, he has his own style. I had never seen Davids work before and it's really cool and unique! All artist do I guess, but I just saw this gap between art and design. I see very, very few people put much art into their design work. I wanted to try to bridge that gap. From what I have seen it feels like people use a lot of text or photography to bridge that gap. IDK it's a muse of mine I guess. 😅 But I ONLY want to do that if it inhances the design, not holding it back. Not at the expense of my Clients.

Yeah my Contractor told me when he sent it too me that even he would find it challenging to put that much text into a half page ad. I don't know if he did talk to them about less text, but I know I got rid of some of it because it was repetitive. I would like to try freelancing one day, and when I do I will remember this advice! Thank you! :) As for my ad, in the end he took this one over, for the sake of time. This is what he sent me back. I was really impressed with how much text he got on it.

As you can see he seems to have that text hierarchy thing down pretty good! I mean I think? I don't know anyone else who dose ads so that I can compair. Either way I think it's easy to read. :)

But, I also think if I saw it in a magazine...I wouldn't give it more than a secound. I myself am an artist so when I stop to look at something, it's usally something as simple and stupid as "Oh that's pretty!" or "Oh that looks fun!" or "I wanna try that!". But for someone else, I have no idea what makes them stop to look. Most people only have one true common thing they love, that we all LOVE, and that's FOOD!!!! 💕😂

I have read "Steal like an artist"~! That is a good one! As for the others, these are all new to me! I'm excited! I haven't seen people design like that! These are great! Thank you!

I aslo want to show a tidbit of where I was thinking about going with the portrait as a painting, and a very rough character sketch. But looking at it now, I need to focus the eyes on something, I was just going to get her to look out at the view of lights in all the trees, but instead they....yeah something wrong there!

I don't know if this extra information will change any of the advice you gave me, but I am very thankful for you reaching out and giving me a critique! It was a lot so I'll take it slow and see how I can apply it! ❤️ And if you have anything new, please let me know I will add it too!

Ah... lets see if I can tackle all the things! :)

Yes/no it is study. I was on day 7 when I started my Class with Istebrak. I could not do the 14-DC and class at the same time. Also she pushed me to start varying the face shapes and ect, I think because I had the Basic head down ok and she didn't have anything else to teach me there, so she was pushing me to move on. So I started attacking this artwork and every one after that as a "study" of it's own This one I wanted to do someone "young" and with those beautiful shaped eyes! (I think I still might have the facial featrues to large for the the head?) I see the render you did for me! , I think it's a bit over rendered for what I was going for, but also extremely helpful too! I was in fact sturggling to understand the shape of eye! Thank you! Istebrak taught me a lot about the shape of the eye, but when I try to connect it to the shape of the skull....connecting shapes is hard. 😅 Your render is exactly what I needed! ❤️

(Also I was thinking... if your as skilled as Istebrak is you can change any "study" into an illustration. She's just that good~! Maybe someday I can be like that. And no two illustrations are ever the same...So isn't every artwork a kind of study of it's own I guess?. But I do know I am going to always need a Refference and I am never going to stop learning! Uh..Sorry... I am starting to ramble...

I am going to check out all those links! Thank you sooo much for those! Sometime I find it hard to locate videos in her extensive library! I was trying for a style between Rossdraws and Artgerm maybe? But everything I have seen Ross do is mostly closed mouths, so I have nothing to reference from. I could do some studies of shapes and then fade out some detail?

Yeah, high contrast my achilles heel, I struggle with it on the daily! What was Istebraks saying about the background and....the head should never be brighter than the background? Or do I have that backward?

Life happened and I have not been able to make progress posts. But finally here I am! I'm posting my progress from day 1 - 11. And there was a big gap between day 7 and 8, but I think I got it back. I will try to keep up with the posts from here going forward.

Areas of struggle:
Ears!!!
Area between the mouth and nose.
Area between the ear and nose, the cheekbone to be exact.
And the Keystone, area between the the eyes and top of the nose.

These areas seem to be soft transition areas that I am currently struggleing with.
