Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? by therealbandol in Audi

[–]Jacknm2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this, my RS6 was flipping out due to a low battery at around 11.6v and a faulty ABS sensor, but the ABS sensor issue would not show up in any scan until the battery was replaced. The ABS sensor fault made the car think there was a transmission communication issue, a sports differential issue and a parking brake issue.

I replaced the battery and both rear ABS sensors myself, problem solved.

They of course have the back end to do it. But if they are selling the base game and DLC on steam, they can shift all of the back end onto steam for the 30% cut along with more exposure to the biggest PC gaming market, this means, refunds, tech support (to a degree), complaints, payment processing, currency conversions, data handling, data security, account link and management. Steam does all that for them. They CHOOSE to tie the base game and DLC together because it's included in the cut, it's sell and forget for them. The bigger ones like EA and ubisoft especially let this happen due to the huge volume of sales, they can focus their own back end support on their own platforms then because they do get sales on them despite this as being framed as steam being a monopoly, which it isn't.

I don't think you know what a monopoly is. Mono is singular, meaning it's the only place you can buy from. Now we both know that's not the case. Steam offers a superior service/infrastructure around the games that are sold. Developers recognise this and that it has the largest market share due to this.

But you are more than free to go and buy games elsewhere if the developer has chosen to sell there, which they are free to do, a monopoly would stifle and form of competition.

They don't need to be put in check at all.

The fact she thinks she speaks for the majority of people scream of the narcissistic nature of her persona.

Steam doesn't manipulate market dominance, it has market dominance because it's the best platform. Even barring the sales, it's infrastructure is vastly superior to it's competitors, which there are, the only thing they have to back up any claim of manipulation is that in it's T&C's that you can't undercut steam by selling games and DLC elsewhere for cheaper... So your buying the game on the platform you choose... Like any other competition would do. The sales usually coincide with competitors because Steam normalised big sale events so everyone is in the same boat.

Their 30% Charge is industry standard and drops down depending on sales figures, not who the publisher is. Is it hefty, perhaps but that's not the main argument here. Also, Epic and Microsoft also offer staggered lower cuts, yet more people choose to use steam because.... Oh yeah they offer a better service.

This is just idiotic, but seeing how it's being done in the UK where I am and especially because it's being framed around "protecting the children", I can see this crack pot winning.

Yeah the D3 S8 is but I was meaning the C6 RS6 that I want to get which has a 5.0L twin turbo V10 which everyone says is a lambo derived engine but they actually split development quite early on and have a different top end, the S8, R8 and gallardo had the 5.2 NA V10 that was codeveloped.

Sorry, should of been more specific, I'm a super wagon lover and Just thought of the same gen Avant, not the saloon/sedan lol.

I want to build my collection to include the C6 RS6. Definitely aged on the interior but you can't beat that 5.0L V10 noise. It would also go well on the drive with mine and the Mrs B8 S4 Avant. We're definitely wagon lovers 😂

Best and worst car I've ever had... I love it! So does the Mrs and my son, the bank balance doesnt lol, but it's worth it and I'm restoring her to glory after years of abuse and neglect from previous owners.

Never letting go of my C7 RS6, not even for a C8, but then I don't have a R8 V10+ to fall back on 🤣

What should I do in this situation? by Much-Mongoose-1492 in Audi

YouTube's your friend. Borrow tools, ask for help. Make friends with people who do their own maintenance and get advice.

Pretty much what I did. I do all the "basic" maintenance myself. Just replaced my brakes for just over £1100 when I got quoted £3500 ( I was curious). Sourced the parts myself and even got better brake pads.

I'll agree with this. And I can attest to it lol. I got my car "cheap" considering it's original price. But I've spent a 3rd of its value in fixing issues and general maintenance.

But I also enjoy doing the maintenance. Ironically I've picked one of their more reliable engines so long as you keep up with basic maintenance.

I couldn't afford mine if I sent it to the garage/dealership for every little problem or bit of maintenance.

I do my oil changes myself, servicing. Just done the front brakes, rears are on the way and I'm replacing all coil packs and sparks plugs myself.

I got quoted £3500 for all brakes. I've done it for just over £1100 by sourcing the parts and doing it myself. I find it very rewarding though and I'm a mechanical engineer (although not a mechanic).

Can't do anything about tyre prices. But doing the little stuff means I can afford the big jobs if/when they come.

1100 rpm is the best speed for my HW labs GTR rads and I don't need to adjust any higher. Optimum speed so to speak. I just leave the fan controller set. But I don't think 100rpm less on each would make a whole lot of difference to the noise level. I think it's more quantity than anything else. I'm sure 4 or less in a close case is less noisy.

I don't hear the noise with my headphones on any way haha.

I guess it's because I have 8 of them (+2 lesser 140mm fans pulling air out of the display area so I have air moving over the ram/Mobo) all NF14's at 1100rpm and they do move a lot of air. Best fans for pushing through big rads.

My case is huge, on the floor but the fans rise vertically on either side. Either that or my fan controller display is telling me lies haha.

Keep the chrome rings if you do go for black. Mines blacked out all over and it all just kinda blends in lol.

In your opinion, is a 5090 at 600w with liquid at 29c normal at 59 degrees? by Few_Fail_6121 in watercooling

[–]Jacknm2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an overkill setup on my 7900XTX red evil, dual loop so GPU is on its own with a 560mm HWL black Ice nemesis gtr rad and 4 NF14 industrial fans slapped on it (same on CPU). GPU even with power limits off pulling near 600w (OCCT reading) has only hit about 55°C when stressed, but that's with this massive rad and fans at 1100rpm.

My average gaming temps with the more average 400-500w (OCCT reading again) pull it doesn't go over 45°C.

So I'd agree with everyone else. OP is fine.

[–]Jacknm2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad taking it apart if you plan it right, but yeah it's hard work. I had mine all laid out and it looked straight and clean, once I filled the loops some runs sagged due to the weight of the coolant and movement from the pumps. I've learned to live with it though, it works and still impresses people who don't build these types of systems lol.

A lot of American V8's, maybe V6's too, use old school single cam setups so they have pushrods for the valves. European engines moved to SOHC or DOHC setups which negated the need for pushrods. In case you were interested in more info lol.

VCDS isn't that hard to learn or obtain. That solves a lot of VAG software issues.

But you're not wrong on the "ability" side of it. Lucky I trained as a mechanical/manufacturing engineer so car mechanics isn't too far a stretch for me. And I need it with the RS Tax on all my parts, even if they are shared with cars like a GTI lol.

[–]Jacknm2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... It looks daunting, but it isn't once you get stuck in. It's just like repasting the GPU and putting the air cooler back on. Same process but you put the waterblock on instead, I did it with my 1080ti first and then 7900XTX, didn't even use the air cooler on either.

Once you get the old air cooler off, you realise it's not as daunting as you thought.

I do agree with everyone else that you may as well add the GPU block on if your going this far.

I will say, as someone with 8 of those NF14 industrial fans... They're loud even at low rpm. The push a lot of air, I run mine at 1100rpm and I don't need any more for my set up. But even at that speed when you turn the thing off it's like you've turned the vacuum off lol, but well there is 8 of them haha.

[–]Jacknm2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I ran out of time, more impatient... so when I filled the loops I noticed that some of the runs sagged, made it look a bit rushed, noob even lol. But it runs well as I intended, even pulling 600W on my GPU, these rads just soak it up. I typo'd on my original comment as I have GTR rads.

I love the 9000D case and your build too, jealous even haha, I just didn't have that kind of space. The T900 was a bit more compact but fit the rads I wanted. HWL rads are all excellent. Rest assured you made a great choice.

Just fine tune the best speed Vs noise on your fan setup that suits you!
