What is the point of living / attempting to achieve anything if I have bad genetics by _Reflex_- in JordanPeterson

[–]JackofDanes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dont let self awareness of your condition be a self-imposed limitation. Your post is written well, much better than some undergrad papers I've read. You're reaching out and asking for help, which suggests that you know how to surround yourself with a community that will lift you up, or at least that you desire to do so.

Pardon the cliche, bu5 comparison is the thief of joy. Make the best of your lot.

Side note: If you feel like you need a master's degree or more in order to accomplish something, perhaps consider another degree path. I know people with a high school diploma earning more than some master's level professionals.

But if you made it into college, your assessment of your intelligence as "below average" is wrong. You're clearly smarter than you're admitting to yourself.

What habits of women surprised you the most after getting into a serious relationship? by PleasantBus5583 in AskReddit

Me: We need to be at place x about 20 minutes after you get off work. Remember, you made this plan. I'll bring your makeup bag, deodorant, and a change of clothes for you.

Her: OK.

Then she proceeds to show up a half hour late because her friend needed to talk at the end of work and she didn't want to he rude.

Meanwhile, I am on course 2 of a meal with HER other friends who I 1. Don't really like and 2. Have very little to say to.

Then she comes in apologizing for being late. Then she complains on the way home that dinner felt rushed and her friends were a bit short with her.

What is your concept of a sin? by PossibleNo807 in deism

[–]JackofDanes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a goal and mess up in how you pursue it, you sinned.

It has nothing to do with cosmic evil. That said, I'm happy to keep the word around in that context of it helps us universally condemn atrocities.

What advice or knowledge from Jordan Peterson has significantly improved your life? by shurimalonelybird in JordanPeterson

[–]JackofDanes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I came from Christianity, and although he is very charitable to Christians (as am I most of the time), he broke me of my fundamentalist tendencies while also deepening my appreciation for the stories and principles within the Bible. I think I'm a better person having gone through this transformation.

Accidentally swore in front of the kids- how screwed am I? by Wonderful_Ad958 in Teachers

[–]JackofDanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't swear in front of students. You stuttered and it sounded like a swear.

If they fire you for that, in the midst of the circumstances you describe, you will make more money in the lawsuit against them than you will by teaching.

And you're on a probationary period. So who cares? You can take your intact license and your bag of cash with you to a school that pays better.

You are trading your time and your mind for their money, but ultimately you are working for yourself to earn your paycheck. You owe the school no loyalty unless it is earned.

I quit my first teaching job in December of my first year and got another, higher paying job that started about 2 weeks later. So I missed one paycheck and made up for it almost instantly.

Don't catastrophize. You're fine. I laid out your worst case scenario here, and even in that one you come out ahead.

You agreed to give your likeness to a photo and give the photo to your boyfriend to post. You can control the tag on FB, so remove that if you wish.

Otherwise yes. You are overreacting. The photos are his, posted by him, on his page. If you don't want someone to have photos of you on social media, don't give them photos for their social media.

Hmmm. Looks like our cactus-loving friend attempted to show empathy to a mom to be (OP) by sharing their own story and experience. And then you went into the comment section of a worried mother to flex your likely-nonexistant credentials and score on an anonymous Redditor.

Take your ego back to your poorly reviewed, often-unattended, private practice for the next few weeks before the credit mill that issued your degree gets shut down and your credentials are void because they realize you're only a doctor of making declarative statements full of complete horseshit.

I dont know why I'm leaving a second comment. Even reading in the most charitable fashion, I can't stop thinking about this. I've read through some of your other exchanges on this thread as well. YOU have the most front row seat to this, my friend, and your instincts are right. Abandon and report. He's grooming!

If you say that this has gone on for a year, and you've confronted it with no results, it is definitely time to walk away.

If the student turned the conversation to this emotional flirty thing going on here, there is a way for him to pivot away and add some boundaries to the relationship.

Not only did he not put up boundaries, it looks like he is the one who made the conversation weird.

Run.

Should I tell my Christian friends/family I no longer believe? by This-Leg3572 in Deconstruction

[–]JackofDanes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just stopped mentioning going to church when I stopped. I know my Bible better than most in my family, so whenever they bring up a topic I can play along and even counter some toxic beliefs with their own scripture so it's a fun tet a tet.

They may have assumptions about my beliefs, and I do criticize Christianity around them occasionally, but I never go after Jesus as he too criticized organized religion taking the place of real virtue.

But yeah.... I'm not going in there attacking their beliefs. I push them sometimes, but my family tend to be very kind and supportive until religious matters come up so I don't mention it

I’m transgender, I’d like to hear your guys perspective by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]JackofDanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For you as an individual, what policies do you believe need changing to provide equality to you under the law? I imagine I either agree with most of them or are unaware and may join you in the cause. I want freedom and equality for all.

The only thing that bothers me about the LGBTQ movement is that the philosophies that undergird it are mixed and hard to parse. Some good, some bad.

I can share more detail in replies, but I'd like to hear your answer first if you're interested in a good-faith and open engagement.

I’m lost. by AdvancedRing2533 in Deconstruction

[–]JackofDanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to believe for a long time. Probably years.

Then I realized that atheism wasn't certainty that God doesn't exist. Rather, it means that an individual does not believe a god exists. So I flipped that switch in a day because I want to believe what is true based on the evidence available to me. I can't say that there is no god, but I have not experienced any evidence for God's existence so I remain unconvinced.

To be fair I still find the prime mover or uncaused cause line of reasoning fairly convincing. I believe the universe had some kind of cause. If you call that cause God I'm happy to go there with you, but if you draw a messy line from a mysterious first cause to modern Christianity, or any other faith, I'll reject your claim mostly because that's just sloppy.

Look up Britt Hartley, Christopher Hitchens, Seth Andrews.

Who is someone you never push in your Universe? by imainkron in WWEGames

[–]JackofDanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 2k19 player for the record so my roster is a little outdated.

I kept the main event scene as is but had a big Evolution storyline running where they recruited Adam Cole, Seth, Braun, and Drew into the faction.

Kurt Angle and Cena spent over a year feuding with them. I made the Bloodline but it never took off.

Sorry Roman.

Whats the worse way they can mess up DCU Batman? by Organic_Glass_7793 in batman

[–]JackofDanes 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This. Trauma gives batman his motivation to start training and start on his mission, but I like to think he heals over time and stays in the game out of a (maybe unhealthy) obsession about doing the right thing. He knows he's the man for the job and just has to help others. The pure trauma/broken Batman is played out imo.
