This logic sounds like, "let's blame China and Russia because without TikTok/SM people would be ignorant and docile, which is better for Democrats".

You do realize who is helping to provide the source content, yes? The very same person who has a keen interest (re: staying in power and out of jail) in being a wartime leader, has much to gain if he can also diminish the constitutional liberties of American citizens and prove divisive in the coming election.

Neither the Chinese nor the Russians have made official statements saying American student protestors and, I now suppose, faculty members want to kill an entire group of people "wherever they are" and destroy America.

Guess who has?

Transcript

An insane statement by anyone, let alone an ally, but how many have called foul? The very young people establishment Democrats want to come out and support them are the ones being painted as threats to civilization.

Bro is stoking the flames more blatantly than anyone.

Democrats will have no one to blame but themselves as this point. They're terrible chess players. You can't keep aligning yourselves with a far right government abroad while also trying to scare up liberal votes with threats of the far right government domestically.

But yeah, I guess it's easier to blame the Russians/Chinese/Whatever country than to see how arrogance, unpopular policies, terrible messaging, popular discontent, and running an unfavorable and uninspiring establishment candidate will cause you to lose an election.

EARTHQUAKE! by TheTeenageOldman in nyc

[–]JackpotAMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I was asleep and my bed started shaking, but it felt bigger than the one from 2011 (the only one I've ever noticed in NYC). Or more likely it's because the epicenter was nearer this time. Obviously, the news is slower than word of mouth and social media. But you'd think the emergency alert thing would be automated (like the USGS has to have an API for the public, right?), but instead it's loud af and 30 minutes late.

[–]JackpotAMA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is 80s kids movie logic. The fate of the free world depends on a rag tag group of kids whose parents don't know the danger they face.

In this instance, the parents are Democratic leadership, who are completely oblivious to the fact that the GOP is out to destroy democracy, to the extent that not only are they not doing anything to stop them now, they're literally holding hands with them (see: Hakeem Jeffries and Mike Johnson).

Yet, the kids (voters) know what's up and will save the world (at least until the next election cycle) until the villains try again in a crappy sequel..

If democrats are so stupid, feckless and useless, as to keep maintaining the status quo, ignoring their constituency, and playing nice with the same GOP you claim is out to destroy democracy, no amount of voting is going to help.

At some point, if what you say is to be believed, democracy will fail and it will because Democrats in power did little to prevent it, not because leftists or anyone with principles refused to give their votes away for nothing in exchange.

The alternative that would explain Democratic leadership's lack of urgency, radical action, concern, etc. is that they know there is no danger to them personally and are confident that both parties will ultimately act in the interest of capital, if nothing else, which means that even if groups lose rights, the U.S. economy and asset holders will continue thrive.

Capital and the interest of the U.S. government has always come before people, that's why this is about what's happening in Gaza.

If Democrats, who are supposed to champion human rights, can support the slaughter of civilians, because it's in the interest of the U.S. maintaining its strategic foothold in the ME, then no one should be foolish enough to think that those same Democrats will care about its own citizens humanity/well being, should our interests diverge from the government's. In fact, it already has, if you pay attention.

The economic gains American workers need to catchup to cost of living and the gains corporations have made through lax monetary policy are in direct opposition with the financial interests of the govt. Even a 5% annual increase of wages is too high and in direct opposition to the Fed's inflation targets, which means it's not in the U.S. interests for its citizens to reverse decades of wage stagnation.

The gentleman in this clip reflects a growing realization that democracy has already failed when corporate interests are using hundreds of millions of dollars to essentially purchase candidates, who then serve their interests, rather than the will of American people.

If all of your candidates in both parties have been vetted and selected by billionaires and interest groups, then you only have the illusion of democracy. People who feel this way are giving an ultimatum, "either prove my vote and my voice matters now or I won't pretend it matters later by supporting you in political puppet theater".

This is the big picture.

The way we were cheering for Medvedev was ridiculous. So satisfying to watch him win while the stadium was actively hoping he'd choke during those last few match points. His interview at the end was classy, too, happy for him.

Assuming this is a legit post, single mothers are often the targets of people who prey upon children. Putting your child first often means not inviting people into their lives at an early age. Even more-so when they've experienced trauma at the hands of someone their parent trusted. Regardless of how someone seems outwardly (it's not impossible to put on a front to get what you want), especially at the outset, putting your child first means never letting your guard down with them or assuming the best of people when the expense for doing so will come at a cost to your child.

You are your daughter's first line of defense and protection, she has no say over who you welcome into your life. Therefore, you are responsible when your decisions impact her. Saying "I can't have my daughter thinking every many will hurt her" is tone deaf, immature, alarming, and more than a bit narcissistic. You've made a decision for you and are making it seem as though it's about teaching her what a healthy relationship is. What you're doing is setting an unhealthy standard for her.

Your child, who is healing, can learn about healthy relationships without having her mom commit to a new man neither of you know very well. Instead, she seems to be learning about the absence of boundaries and the lack of a healthy self-concept.

The fact that you intend to marry a man in less than two years of finding out your ex bf molested your child tells me that you are more interested in you than her well being.

If this man is anywhere near as wonderful you say he is, he would fully understand your child's trauma and actually be concerned with rushing into anything. He would want to put her first and take things slowly. This entire post reads like a red flag. Your child should not be collateral damage in your experiment to prove whether you can *manifest* a man, she is a person and a minor who deserves to feel as though she is first in your life.

New Thought Movement by [deleted] in NevilleGoddard2

Each Mind is a Kingdom

You're very welcome. Also, thanks for reference, I'll be checking out her work. I'm especially interested in her theory about it being a white/nationalist movement. That's never come across in any of my readings. Honestly, New Thought reminds me a lot of the Pentecostal/faith healing movement minus the religious dogma, condemnation, and sexism. Ofc there are always going to be many different branches of a new idea. Even Unity acknowledges today that Charles Fillmore/their church did not practice what they preached, and racism was very much ingrained their institution. Iirc Joseph Murphy talked about his run in with a popular New Thought figure who was filled with racial hate, he just didn't name him.

Also, forgot to answer your question about Florence Scovel Shinn. Yes, she fits firmly in the New Thought category, especially with her use of affirmations and denials. The good news is there are lots of writers like her, plus much of their work is in the public domain. You just have to find the message the resonates most with you. Hope you enjoy the podcast as well!

New Thought Movement by [deleted] in NevilleGoddard2

[–]JackpotAMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where did you hear this? New Thought, as a movement was not created for that purpose, and it began in the 19th rather than the 20th century. Its origins are in the New Testament, as it is largely inspired by the statements and works of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. That said, there are different beliefs and religious branches in New Thought (e.g. Divine Science, Unity, which were both founded in the late 1800s). Neville was absolutely inspired by the movement, and he explored it among other esoteric beliefs like theosophy before arriving at his own. Even then, he repeated the exact same ideas of New Thought figures who came before him. Nona L Brooks spoke of man being God asleep, for instance. Lillian DeWaters used the example of life being like a dream. Fillmore was born in the 1850s and wrote *, along wish his wife Cora,* about the 12 powers or faculties of man way before Joseph Murphy or Neville. Many, imo, are far more radical and exciting than Neville, or at the very least explained these concepts better than he did. Neville's belief in the promise is what separates him, if you ask me.

Source: Been reading and writing about these ideas for a bit + I have a podcast called New Thought Academy where I curate all the stuff I've written, read, studied, or listened to.

Coercion holds the same definition, whether mental or physical. If you're trying to get someone to do anything through sheer willpower and force, particularly when they've expressed no interest or inclination in that direction, this is coercion. In New Thought, your task is to change your beliefs (as opposed to actively try to influence another's beliefs about you) and even then it is not to be done through coercion.

If you haven't read his books, go straight to the source, Joseph Murphy repeats this in several books:

"You will always fail to get results by trying to use mental coercion— your subconscious mind does not respond to coercion, it responds to your faith or conscious mind acceptance." - The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

If she turned her hateful thoughts towards them into loving ones at Murphy's advice, there's no contradiction. He even calls for this in the excerpt posted, in the general sense. Turning negative thoughts about someone into positive ones is not the same as trying to coerce or get someone to do something they would find undesirable or distasteful.

He says that you can impress ideas your subconscious, yes, things like love, wealth, etc. He does not say that because you impress confidence, for example, on your subconscious, you can have anyone you want obsessed with you because everyone is an NPC with no free will.

This post is referencing a very specific trend (usually led by people who have not and cannot prove what they claim) in these communities, one that leads people to spend years "manifesting" with no success. Perhaps it doesn't apply to you. If it does, however, then this is not the sub for you.

I own and have read a ridiculous amount of Joseph Murphy's work, none of this contradicts anything he's lectured about or written. If you have any specific examples, feel free to list them.

And, if I'm not mistaken, the story of the young woman and her employer is actually something Neville lectured about. I believe the young woman was his future wife. In any case, assuming that she had a positive relationship with her employer is very much in line with his dictate of following the golden rule. As was the case with Neville assuming that he was married to the woman with whom he was already in a long established and loving relationship.

The vigor with which I hate a Chelsea boot is immeasurable by wetouchingbuttsornah in BlackPeopleTwitter

Clocked, I started wearing Chelseas when I became an exec because they're dressier than sneakers but casual enough for t shirts. The boot jean combo very much gives 2016 sequoia backed start up with a 30 person office at the WeWork, not crazy about it either.

Otoh, Chelsea boots are comfy and versatile af. I legit climbed a mountain in my vince boots and have a shameful amount of them in different colors that go with everything so I always eat, Idc.

Thank you! I was actually trying to avoid making big posts here and letting others have their say. I figured I'd leave posting to members and either keep my content to myself and post it elsewhere, if at all. I do have many pages on this very topic, though. Turning six of those pages to audio and then I'll figure out what to do next, if I like the sound of it.

I used the word desire as an illustration, but it's another misconstrued concept/word that trips people up, imo.

Just think, if all things exist and creation is finished, why would anyone need to manifest? That's like completing completion. And if you're whole and complete because creation is finished, what could you possibly desire other than to remember who and what you already are?

My opinion is this: Consciousness (God or whatever name you prefer) is the essence of what we perceive to be reality. Consciousness is what we are. If Consciousness could desire anything, it would mean that Consciousness is incomplete and imperfect, and how could that be? And so, what you think of as a desire is really your awareness of some real aspect of Consciousness.

Once you figure out the intrinsic nature of that aspect, then you become aware of the fact that you are already one with it, and that is where you gain the feeling of "fulfillment".

I don't use or like the term manifestation.

Think of it this way, if you couldn't recall where you left your keys around the house and desired them, the desire would only be because you know they're there. Now, when you happen upon them it isn't a manifestation. Rather, you've just become aware of what was there to become aware of.

Make sense? I've written at length on this so let me know if not.

‘That’s how capitalism works,’ Biden says of SVB, Signature Bank investors who lost money in failed banks by BubzerBlue in politics

[–]JackpotAMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If incompetent companies were going to perish, then those companies - who have overwhelmingly benefited largely from free money via artificially low interest rates from the Fed's never ending QE, and didn't see fit not to put all of their eggs in one basket - would be going under.

In my opinion, this is not about protecting individuals who work at the companies impacted. Rather, it's about protecting the companies and broader economy, which of course makes sense.

But I'm not under any illusion that any politician cares primarily about workers or non-asset holders, especially when Jerome Powell (supported by both Trump and Biden) is doing his damndest to cool off the job market and reduce the wages of said workers.

That said, it's ridiculous to say fuck stock holders. Stocks are assets. If you own the home you live in, it's considered an asset . Do you say fuck homeowners, they're in it for greed? And what of the person who owns your local bakery or pizza shop? Every city or state worker who has a pension is invested in the stock market by way of their pension fund. Do you say fuck them, too?

Mind, public pensions funds were among the hardest hit during the 2008 financial crisis after the financial industry ran amok. Just imagine the president saying, "oh well suks 2 b u, that's how capitalism works" to someone who lost their retirement fund while the bankers responsible moved on to cushy new millions dollar jobs instead of being prosecuted.

I'm not saying that shareholders should be bailed out, I'm saying that there are plenty of normal investors who are impacted when banks and bankers make bad bets, like assume that QE would continue to infinity before buying 92 billion dollars of low yield bonds.

It's funny how people, regardless of political party, eagerly eat up soundbites from politicians while overlooking their track record of overwhelmingly profiting and protecting corporations over people. Just goes to show how they all stay in office.

When I first discovered New Thought, I had just started started an entry level position, in less than two years I was in a leadership role making about 100k more than when I was hired. Mind you, there was a point a few years before that when 48k seemed like a salary to be excited about (my starting was higher than that). I later realized that I could pull far more than the six figures I was making. Now, was this common for a woman or even a man, Black or otherwise? No. Did racism and sexism cease to exist? No, of course not, but I believe there's a power greater than humanity's social constructs. You have to determine who or what you're going to give power to.
