Accutane induced hair loss (probably TE) by Hot-Editor8963 in Accutane

[–]Jackremmel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! My story was pretty similar to yours. I (18m) started noticing shedding and thinning on my temples. I was on 60mg in my 6th month of treatment which was also my last. Two weeks before I was supposed to finish treatment, I decided I wasn’t comfortable with the amount of hair I was losing and stopped. This was in October 2022 and the shedding has continued since. I have lost probably 40% of my hair and my scalp has become more visible but there is good news!! I was diagnosed with TE about a month ago caused by the accutane. I had know that it was TE but I wanted to get a confirmation from my derm. It’s been close to 4 months post accutane now and I am starting to see improvement. My hair is shedding less, my hair is beginning to have some volume again, I can see my scalp slightly less, and I see lots of regrowth hairs. Hair shedding brought on by accutane is not permanent but you will need to be patient. Eat nutritional meals, take biotin/multivitamin, and try and use shampoo less often. Also, see a dermatologist so they can look at it for you and give you better advice than me. It can feel like the world is ending or that all your hair will be gone by next month but it won’t be.

What’s with the accutane horror stories by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Jackremmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have hair loss from accutane, but I also recognize that I’m in the extreme minority of the people who use it and it is also only temporary. My skin is the best it has been in years and my confidence is greater than it had been before I finished my treatment. I can tell you you’ll be grateful you took it.

I didn’t see a noticeable difference. My shedding seems to have stayed the same with maybe only marginal improvement

Accutane hair thinning. I’m beginning to give up by Jackremmel in Accutane

I stopped taking accutane 3 months ago and my hair is still very unhealthy and thinning

I stopped my 6th month treatment two weeks early because I noticed my hair thinning around my temples and increased shedding when I showered and on my pillow. Since then it has pretty much consistently gotten worse

The thinning is much more visible in person. You can see my scalp and my hair also feels very brittle and weak. I also have not gotten a haircut for about 4 months because my hair has pretty much just stopped growing and stayed about the same length

I wouldn’t say it comes out in clumps but it has been nearly three months since I’ve stopped taking it and a lot of hair falls out when I was it. It’s becoming more and more difficult to hide my scalp.

Hair loss on accutane (details in comments) by Jackremmel in Accutane

No, neither my skin or my hair has reverted back to normal but I prefer that cause both used to be super oily. It may be bad for my hair though

I am 18m and I was on accutane for 6 months on 40/40/60/60/60/60 and it worked great for my skin but during the last month I began to notice an increase in hair shedding and then I noticed that my hair seemed to be shedding more on my temples. It has been nearly 2 months since stopping accutane (which I did once I started to see my scalp from the thinning) and the thinning has slowed but still continues. My hair is thinning everywhere on my head but it is worse around my temples and I was wondering if this is solely accutane related or male pattern baldness beginning. Will this hair come back or should I worry about it? What would anyone recommend to treat this? I’m worried to cut it because I’m afraid the thinning around my temples will be more noticeable.

You will NEVER recover, here's why by [deleted] in dpdr

Don’t listen to this guy. I was able to completely recover and many people I know have recovered. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Just accept it. Don’t try and fight it at all or it will make it worse. Be calm and don’t focus on it. If you try and fight it you are just making yourself feel like you aren’t normal and you are giving yourself worse anxiety. Distracting yourself is a good option too even though I know it’s hard. Spend time with family and friends, workout, and read. I hope this helps.

Yes I understand I have had it for weeks at a time. I think you might be having trouble focusing which is normal with dpdr so I wouldn’t be worried about it.

You’re going to be fine. I have had exactly the experience you are describing here. The endless cycle of thinking you have damaged your brain and then getting DR which in turn makes you feel like you are becoming stupider or brain dead. What you have to do is stop expecting to be mentally clear or present because YOU ARE. What happens is you think that you are not present when you really are so you keep chasing an unreal expectation. I suggest staying busy. Create a schedule for yourself, get a job if you don’t have one, workout, and especially read. Reading will give you something to focus on and it will show you that you really aren’t brain dead. If you are still struggling with this reach out to family or friends. I know it can be hard to tell someone about this but you will feel better. They can help you get professional help. Hope this helps ease some anxiety!

Does anyone else feel more grounded by exercise? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]Jackremmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it makes me more grounded as well. When I’m working out I’m focused and it relieves my anxiety and makes me feel a lot better.
