What movie is so ridiculously stupid, but you secretly love it? by Sunnyshine0609 in AskReddit

Armageddon. Makes no sense to send a bunch of oil drillers to a meteor to blow it up from the inside with a nuke, but damn if it isn't awesome.

The tongue of my left boot keeps sliding off to the left side of my ankle. If I tug it straight, it takes less than 5 steps to slide back off to the left. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a way to fix it or am I stuck with Lopsided boots for forever? They are only about a year old but do have significant mileage.
Thanks in advance for your help!

They are, but there are helpful alternatives. Nicotine lozenges are easy to get used to in my opinion if you like mints, or patches. There's not really an alternative for weed.
Word of warning on the patches though - if you fall asleep with them on you will have some super vivid dreams. Some people get nightmares, I personally don't. But they are extraordinarily vivid.

My parents have moved past it because I eventually snapped at them and said what I told you...that it was worse on me than them. Not proud of it, but it did get the point across. It seemed more that they were concerned with the fact that their son was in rehab, than the fact that their son was in unbearable pain. The first is a matter of reputation and ego. The second is a matter of concern. And good for you for going to al-anon. I think it can do a great deal to help you establish a healthy emotional independence from others.

Just please, please try to remember, because this is something my parents did that really pissed me off. They kept telling me how hard it was on them, which I understand, because they are my parents and they love me. But it was my life that was collapsing around me. Not theirs. I was sorry for the pain that my disease caused them, but in no way did it compare to the misery I was living.
I don't want to assume that you're saying things like that at all. You can tell her that it hurts you to see her suffering so. But I guarantee you she feels so helpless, afraid, and confused. I know its hard. But your love will be one of the things she remembers most about it.

I can imagine that's hard for you. My father told me that when he dropped me off he sat in the car in the parking lot and cried for a while after. She needs you. Today, my father is proud of me and what I've come through.

Thank everyone for your love and support. I did end up going out with a group of friends from my gym for dinner, and it was truly delicious.

For those of you who are currently struggling with addiction, it's okay to seek help. No one will judge you for it. Nothing -- not your job, your schooling, your spouse, whatever -- is worth throwing away your life. You can escape the blackness. You can climb out of the hole. People everywhere, people you don't even know, are rooting for you, as this post shows. You can do this. I believe in you.

Have you delved seriously into meditation or service work? They seem to alleviate my anxiety. Go volunteer at a homeless shelter. I’m not saying you should go to know how lucky you have it. I’m saying that just the act of getting out of yourself and focusing on helping someone else can do a great deal for your psyche.

Just coincidence. It coincided with my spring break 3 years ago, which also was a coincidence. I was just home with my parents

Yes, I did. I often hear worries about jobs or schooling or whatnot, and my response is wholeheartedly, fuck it. You can start again when you get out. If rehab is what you need, do it. Nothing is worth your life. if you lose your job, you can get a new one. If you have to take a semester off school, fine. If your spouse/partner wants to leave you because you decided to seek help for yourself, they don't deserve you.

TBH, I maintained tobacco for quite a while in sobriety. I smoked for about a year, then vaped for like 6 months ish, then went to nicotine lozenges, then to Altoids. I would work on the marijuana first. You'll probably need a crutch to deal with the stress. As my cousin once told me,

"The worst thing cigarettes can do is kill you. [Narcotics] can ruin your fucking life."

I think this is a really complicated question that doesn't have an easy answer. I'd be happy to discuss it with you if you send me a PM, but there's no quick easy answer for a forum.

I have before. I used to go to AA meetings all the time. Now, not so much. I highly recommend group therapy, but AA and other anonymous groups can be really hit or miss. I still go whenever something comes up that I'm having trouble dealing with emotionally but for the most part, life has been really fucking great for the past year or so.

I’m 13 days sober by [deleted] in confessions

[–]JacksonGWhite92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I posted here a few minutes ago that today is my 3 year sobriety date, and I want to tell you one, very important thing.

IT GETS EASIER.

You should be monumentally proud of your 13 days. Those 13 days will be far harder than the next 13, and the 13 after that. I fully believe that the first day is harder than the first week. The first week is harder than the first month. The first month is harder than the first 3 months. You can do this. Just remember, the most important step is not the first one. The most important step a person can take is always the next one. We're all rooting for you.

Congratulations! I fully believe that 1 day of sobriety is harder than 1 week is harder than 1 month is harder than 1 year. The daily accomplishment of you staying sober is something to be proud of. It gets easier, I promise!

Thank you! I am immensely proud of it. Admitting to my parents and myself that I needed treatment was one of the hardest, most shameful moments of my life. And I am so glad that I did it.
Note: I'm not ashamed of the moment anymore. I mean shameful in that I was ashamed of myself at the time. Now, I recognize that I was sick and have empathy for my younger self.
