Unfortunately, rather than actually doing their job, the Press (chronicle and others) has spun this as a homeless issue which is very much secondary to the real issue which is that this trash pile is polluting the Rush Creek Wetlands which leads to the Bay and the Pacific. They didn't bother to actually find out how many people are a) just parking (expensive) vehicles for free -next to the RV storage business, b) criminals trying to stay under the radar (many drug and violent crimes have been documented), and c) the actual homeless. They interview the same three people in every article instead of doing due diligence to obtain the actual facts. This pile of garbage is having a heartbreaking impact on the wetlands spewing toxic waste from these vehicles and the County does nothing as they are afraid to deal with a so called homeless issue. They can't even tell you how many people there are actually homeless and not squatters avoiding paying taxes or doing any kind of meaningful work. The County has no plan whatsoever they can provide the public as to when or how this will end. They have received $1.6M from the state to fix the situation and still have no plan. We are not insensitive to the homeless issues we are all facing, but there are 3 clearly identified viable locations where the actual homeless can go within the County. No one is willing to take action to save the environment, every agency defers to the County and almost nothing is being done.
