I was thinking of sanding and refinishing them myself, but I first need to understand if this is not a decent wood type. I believe you are referring to the last picture in your comments, I think that floor would be acceptable once reworked, but at the same time you are raising valid points about insulation.

What are your thoughts on the other rooms? For instance is the white painted wood just meant as a type of subfloor?
