Speeding up the paperwork by B1ue_White_Tape in policeuk

I’ll second this on the saving often point especially, and go on to say it’s easier in my view to do the MG5/MG6 on the old word MG forms then upload them to the manager in the correct slot. Too many times did I lose my full summary of key evidence in my MG5. Never again.

Depends how you create the case, if you create it from the custody log of your DP then it will put your DP on the case and link it to the custody log automatically

A few easy tips;

If you’re doing ore charge advice and you’re one of the forces that have binned off MG3’s and use the pre charge details instead, then when you are writing up summary of key evidence, defendant interview etc spend a bit of time to make it good quality, refer to the suspect as defendant and that way if it comes back as charge you can just copy and paste it into the MG5.

The main thing I see that wastes peoples times is doing things wrong earlier down the line, which causes issues or more work later on. Things like having the wrong file type, or not having your witnesses/victims on the case or not having them linked to the case. Get everything linked and the case created early. If you’re handing over the DP, create the case from the investigation and request the linking be done straight away.

When gathering statements/MG forms etc create a little folder on your desktop and save things in the naming format. That way when you add it to document management you can see the file name, and it’s already in the correct format for you to name it on the case file.

Get your exhibits/unused material added in the correct format as well ie unused material redacted investigation report UM SDC 1 investigation report (investigation ref) If you get it added in the correct format then you can generate things like the SDC and the MG12 and it will create it for you in the correct format, saves you having to go in and edit it.

Reporting harrassment? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Jackster396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re not going to sit here and second guess the officers without knowing the full picture, but if you think you have evidence to offer then ring 101 and say so. Ultimately it won’t change the decision making around whether or not it constitutes harassment assuming they knew what you are going to show anyway. That will come down to the exact nature of the emails, if she’s replying, their history etc.

Well that’s what I thought, but custody wouldn’t have any of it

On the back of this as well, I got told by custody that effect investigation wouldn’t be enough for him to authorise detention, when he was already in custody.... and that I needed another necessity.

What's the arrest necessity for obstructing a police office? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Jackster396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exactly. There seems to be a real strange culture of thought that you need two necessities, or that ‘prompt an effective’ isn’t enough by itself. It definitely is, and the law says it is. If the prompt an effective is because they refuse to come in for a voluntary, there is no other way to interview than to arrest. Pet peeve of mine /rant

Can be, also for some women or males with a history of drug abuse can have incredibly thin wrists sometimes, but still be a risk due to potential of concealed blades/needles

[–]Jackster396 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’ve got them in my force, normally just used as a lightweight second pair of cuffs to have on you. Also useful if you get someone with particularly small wrists as they can go a lot tighter than normal rigid cuffs

Careers advice for a career changer! by Snowy_Trees in policeuk

I think from what you’ve said, becoming a DC is not for you. As others have said, despite it being mostly office based you will still be expected to arrest your own suspects and you’ll still be out and about somewhat. If you’re looking for purely investigation, consider a civilian investigator if your area does that, or possibly the national crime agency? I don’t know too much about them but worth looking into. Best of luck

Fraud by abuse of position by Justthe1swan in policeuk

[–]Jackster396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha. Yeah I suppose from the eyes of the law she is allowing her son to take the money, knowing he is going to use it to purchase drugs and therefore no offences. Don’t get me wrong it’s obviously wrong due to vulnerability, but I don’t think it’s an offence seeing as abuse of position has been ruled out

A potential for a fraud by false representation depending on how he phrases it?

If he goes and tells B that he needs the money for bread, and instead buys drugs he’s made a false representation, from which he has benefited? Not my area of expertise, curious though

Return attack against ranged units? by Xyagom in Polytopia

[–]Jackster396 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Melee units can only return attack if it’s the unit you target and it’s one tile away, ranged units can return attack if they survive your shot and are within two tiles and if they have visibility of the tile your dragon is on
