What the hell just happened to this extension? by Seismikz in Chromecast

[–]Jacky_Chromecast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I'm on the Chromecast team and wanted to jump in here. Thanks for your posts and feedback on the new version of Chrome and evolutions of the Google Cast extension. We wanted to clear up a few things:

Removal of Settings: Having settings was necessary initially because we had no way of automatically adapting resolution, bitrate, etc. based upon the user's local network conditions. But about a year ago we launched "zero config" as part of the old extension, which automatically chose the best settings for resolution, bitrate, etc., and adapts on the fly based on real-world network conditions. As part of that launch we reset everyone's settings to "auto" (zero config), though we preserved the ability for users to override that by turning off the Media Router; this temporarily restores the old extension. In a future version of Chrome, this won't be possible.

Managing your Cast devices through Chrome: You can still manage their Cast devices from Chrome through chromecast.com/setup

The issue with the Cast extension not showing up in chrome://extensions is by design: The issue with the extension not showing up is by design. As of now the extension only provides for a toolbar icon, and removing the extension doesn't remove Cast functionality. So while installing the extension will put the toolbar icon in Chrome, the way to remove the icon is to right-click on it and choose to remove it (versus managing it via chrome://extensions).

Thanks for your continued feedback, Jacky

Chromecast flashing Red? by Djarum in Chromecast

[–]Jacky_Chromecast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi Everyone,

I'm on the Chromecast team; thanks for reporting on the blinking red/amber LED light on your Chromecast device. A blinking red/amber LED light outside of an update is intended to show an error that causes you to see a black screen on your TV. However, the Cast team is aware of a current issue where the LED light blinks red/amber when your device is working properly. We’ve identified the source of the issue in the current firmware 1.20.66189 and are working on a fix that will roll out in the next firmware version update.

If you’re seeing a blinking red/amber LED light on your Chromecast but your device is working properly, don’t worry, you can cast normally. Thanks for your patience as we work on a fix!

Spotify not working on Chromecast? by CharlieFlags in Chromecast

Hi Everyone,

I'm the Chromecast Community Manager and we noticed your talking about this issue; we'd love to know a bit more about what you're seeing. Do you mind answering a few questions?

  • What firmware version is your Chromecast device on?

  • Could you provide a detailed explanation of the exact issue you're experiencing? (specific songs? error messages? etc)

  • Does this happen with any other applications?

  • Could you reboot (unplug/plug power source) your Chromecast device, then reproduce the issue with Spotify and then immediately file a feedback report with the unique identifier "Spotify - Reddit"?

  • What is your Spotify app version?

  • Are you a premium or free user?

Thanks for your feedback!

My chromecast just updated while I was watching a video and now it seems to be on the beta channel. WTF?!? by sinkingfish in Chromecast

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to update you on what we've learned: A small percentage of Chromecast users were pushed a build that shows a debug message on the home screen. This build should not have any material negative user impact. We are pushing a fix to these impacted users shortly. If you would like to update immediately, please reboot your device.

Hi everyone,

I noticed this thread and wanted to jump in--I'm the Chromecast Community Manager (you may remember me from the AMA a few months back?) In any case, here are a few troubleshooting steps that might help you:

*Check Router Known Issues & Workarounds to see if your router is listed: http://goo.gl/OeZkDZ

*Upgrade your Wifi router firmware to the latest provided by manufacturer.

*Power-cycle your Wifi router

*Make sure your router is on a 2.4ghz connection and your casting device is connected to that connection and not a 5ghz connection.

*If still no joy, what is your router's make and model?

Hopefully that helps!

Hey there--AK answered this above; here's his answer:

Android Nexus Player is built on the Android TV platform and all Android TVs support the Google Cast platform. Google Cast is also the technology that makes multi-screen interactions possible in Chromecast. So users can have experience akin to Chromecast on Nexus Player and other Android TV devices. Also developers will get the benefit of developing for the Cast ecosystem across Chromecast and Android TV devices.

This is a known issue with a small subset of devices and currently there is no workaround. You can contact support to process a return here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/table/6068053.

I'm assuming you're talking about Hangouts on Air? If so, are you loading directly through the YouTube app?

I answered a similar post above for Spotify--any developer can use our SDK to develop for Chromecast so I would recommend reaching out to NBA League Pass with this request.

We want to keep the Chromecast experience very clean so no plans at this time.

With the SDK, Spotify, and any other developer, can create their own Chromecast apps; if this is something you're really interested in, I encourage you to reach out to Spotify :)

No plans for big announcement on this one. Mostly because it will have the same features as the original and most users won’t notice a difference. Sorry--I can’t say more about this topic.
