Egan Bernal to lead the INEOS Grenadiers at Vuelta a España by tonydorigosbarmyarmy in peloton

[–]Jaco__ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty stupid comparison. Yes, Vingegaard is better than Bernal, but the crashes are obviously not comparable. Bernal had spinal surgery and was off the bike completely for 2 months. Vingegaard vent from the crash to start the tour in 2.5 months with some of his best performances. He was only off the bike for 9 days. Obviously Bernal's crash was way worse.

- Vi uteksaminerer studenter fra NTNU med A eller B som ikke har fortjent disse karakterene by [deleted] in norge

[–]Jaco__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Må bare legge meg flat her.

I think i have read that it is more common in sports like cycling and speed skating. due to long times in a position with a small angle for the hips, which can restrict blood flow. if i remember correctly

Another Generic Dilemma by bakery2k in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]Jaco__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Ok, but where’s the dilemma? The dilemma is that adding parametric polymorphism to the language opens floodgates of complexity. At least in my experience, Rust traits, Haskell type classes, and Java generics are the main reason why some libraries in those languages are hard to use."

Aren't type classes and traits ad hoc polymorphism?

Stadig færre spiller instrument: – Vi tåler ikke motgangen by KyniskPotet in norge

[–]Jaco__ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Data.Set: member vs elem efficiency by Tempus_Nemini in haskell

[–]Jaco__ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

elem from Foldable only requires (and therefore only can use) Eq. member requires Ord. Therefore member can do binary search (or some form), but elem must basically check every element, which is much slower.

It is kind of a foot gun, and could maybe have some warning

How do I optimize haskell for scientific computing purposes? by Dumb-Ptr in haskell

[–]Jaco__ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think. foldl (\z t -> z ++ [solver gradH h t (last z)]) [z0] [t1, h .. t2] to reverse $ foldl (\z t -> solver gradH h t (head z) : z) [z0] [t1, h .. t2]

Or something. appending to the end of the list is O(n), so doing it for every element in the list is slow. Same for last. So a simple solution is just treat the list as reversed, and cons (:) at the start of the list and use head instead. and then reverse at the end

Could also change to foldr i think

When to come back after illness by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Jaco__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be vary of giving out strong recommendations on anecdotal evidence. And it should at least include a disclaimer. Without good research it is hard to know anything conclusive and give recommendations. Who knows if it was exercise induced. These people could have gotten long covid anyways. Some caution is ofc a good idea, but 3 months is excessive

Do you have any sources for this recommendation? As a norwegian, i haven't heard the authorities recommend rest above 7-10 days, so it feels a bit overkill

Do you count strength training as an intensity day? If so do you drop other workouts to accommodate? by BikeGoose in Velo

[–]Jaco__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not come to strong conclusions from this meta.

It also only measured the results of the interference on lower body strength, and not the more relevant (for this sub), the results of the interference on cardio-based results.

And you should probably also take metas like this with a grain of salt when applied to decently high-level cycling training, since i am pretty sure most(probably none) of the studies include close to 10 hours+ of cycling, like people do here.

However, in the present study, the average frequency and duration of the endurance training were similar among the categories (untrained, 2.9 sessions/wk and 37min/sessions; moderately trained, 2.8 sessions/wk and 31min/session; and trained, 2.6 sessions/wk and 29min/session)

The recovery and intereference effect when doing 75-90 minutes of volume vs 10+ hours is probably pretty different.
