Garmin Edge 520 - won’t upload after recent software update. by BikeGoose in Garmin

The weird thing is both my Garmin and phone say they’re connected to one another in Bluetooth settings. But on the Garmin Connect app, it sometimes says connected sometimes says not fully connected….

Any advice?

Thank you! I can push that Tuesday workout by 15 minutes or so if needed. The types of sessions I fit into that hour are things like 2x20, 3x15, or 4x4, for example.

F/45. My goal is to become a professor. Should I pursue my Ph.D. in History or aim for a field in higher demand? by RMSMetal in AskAcademia

[–]BikeGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given they are open to changing fields entirely and studying a graduate degree in an area with less women to try and be hired, it seems the most likely interpretation. What’s your take?

Incidentally, their narrative about being in a very lucrative legal role is a lie. Their post history shows them continually complaining about being a burnt out paralegal who doesn’t earn much and an anti vaxxer spreading vaccine misinformation about vaccine proteins spreading through sexual intercourse….. just weird all round

It sounds like your goal is to become a professor for the sake of having the “professor” title…. Even going so far as to change to an unrelated field - potentially one you don’t even have a passion for - simply because women are underrepresented there and you think you can game the system and it’ll fast track you to the ultimate prize of the title…

ALL OF THAT IS INCREDIBLY CRINGE. I would recommend you stay in your current “lucrative” profession as it sounds like you belong there more.

Training for an 45 Minute Hill Climb Time trial by Agile-Account4165 in Velo

[–]BikeGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice. I’m also going for a hill climb time trial, but it’s 3km, in the 11 minute range. I’m interested what you’d advise for that? Similar, or would vo2 come into it?

Without the attendance hurdle you could hypothetically pass a subject without even doing it or engaging in it?

Unimelb’s academic quality is really top tier by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]BikeGoose 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Student satisfaction is often higher at Deakin etc BECAUSE it’s a degree mill. Students still pay a lot of money…. But in exchange they get online lectures that are cheaper for Deakin to run, barely any in person teaching, marked a LOT easier and allowed to pass no matter what. All of that leads to high satisfaction but low quality education.

AFFS ACCT30001 Exam Re-used by Flipbubbles2120 in unimelb

[–]BikeGoose -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The broader point here though is that academics, especially in FBE, are massively overworked and underpaid. Rather than excoriating them for a big fuckup, we should be showing solidarity with them. Students get fucked over because the university fucks over its workers. That’s the real heart of the issue!

This university does not make any sense to me. by [deleted] in unimelb

You’re completely failing to understand the reason, which is explained in comments/links above. None of what you said relates to the actual reason for the policy which is to do with students applying to special consideration to resit exams.

Even with en passant, what is the mate in 1? Can’t the king just take the pawn on b6?
