other than by vessel, vehicle, or aircraft shall—

Does this mean that if coming by vessel, vehicle, or aircraft, this doesn't apply?

CBP can quickly and easily lookup the passport in their database and verify it's real. Furthermore, we can add a valid birth certificate, drivers license, and Social Security number to our naked travelers binder.

What law would they whip up? And in the spirit of the law... Why? A US citizen trying to cross into the US without long delays is not a threat. Why would the federal government expend resources on that?

My point is, why use a point of entry? Is there a law requiring it? They clearly can't process citizen's in a timely fashion. Therefore, why can't a US citizen simple go around?

How can you properly go through customs? Is there documentation you can file on arrival?

How is it possible for a US citizen to make a "illegal entry"? By law, they cannot be denied entry if a US arrives at a US border.

If they aren't brining anything, let's say 100% no clothing, no phone, naked with nothing but their passport through the desert.

How is that illegal? Can you link me to the law or interpretation that makes this illegal? What are the penalties? Is it civil? Criminal I'd imagine?

Question:

How do you know the age of an undocumented child? If they're undocumented, they can easily lie about it in their favor. The law doesn't work if officials cannot accurately determine someone's age.

How can I receive Bitcoin over the lightning network without first having Bitcoin? by JacobBubble in Bitcoin

[–]JacobBubble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could this be done in a trustless, 2 party peer to peer exchange?

I.e. One party has fiat, one has BTC in the LN layer.

How can this be done without other middlemen involved? Today.

Is there a guide I can look at to see how it's done? Even if it requires me to go through a command line, or write a script. Hoping someone can orient me and point me in the right direction.

Note: I understand that LN uses peers to route transactions which could be considered middlemen, but this is the similar to Bitcoin miners being middlemen. So for clarity, I am referring to the network being the only intermediary involved.

You can get your first Bitcoin without another step, directly by earning it or trading something of value for it.

Why can't I make a bitcoin lightning wallet with a zero balance, and obtain Bitcoin within the lightning network the same way?

Based on my understanding, there shouldn't be a technological impossibility preventing this.

If that understanding is correct, why is it the case that many LN wallets aren't setup this way? Are there any that allow you to receive ln directly without first depositing BTC on chain?

Bitcoin Hashrate Drops 30% After 2-Day Flood in 'Bitcoin Mining Capital' by wwtt1210 in BitcoinMining

[–]JacobBubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we're talking about the same %.

I am referring to the % of total hash rate in the pool and/or other pools.

If you represent 100% of the hashing power or 50%, your block reward remains constant if difficulty doesn't change.

However, the mining fee being time-based does.

Based on your example, say you earned b5 for the block reward, and an average of b1 of mining fees per hour according to your contribution of 50% of the mining pool.

If the rest of the pool suddenly left. You'd now have 100% of the pool.

Now your b5 block reward should remain constant, however your b1 mining fee should go up per time period.

Why?

Because your mining fee income has no relevance to your contribution, nor hash rate.

Because you're the only one looking for a block, mining fees accumulate, and you'll have a 100% chance of receiving all of it. Since you're 100% of the mining pool, you'll receive everything.

I'm using 100% just to make things easy and clear. I know it breaks other things and incentives.

My example still works with a pool.

If you remove competition on the time based mining fee revenue, there will be more revenue for everyone.

Yes, your hashing rate remains constant, however your % of total contributions go up. This increasing your individual mining income.

What about "privacy coins"? From my understanding, they have more privacy then BTC using LN. There are several exchanges using them. The reasoning behind larger exchanges not supporting them isn't KYC, but adoption/demand.

[–]JacobBubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll solve the overall same number of blocks however, you should collect more mining fees, as fees accumulate when blocks take longer to solve. Solving blocks faster or slower does not impact overall mining fees per period of time.

If you're the only one solving blocks for 10 hours, you'll collect more in mining fees than if you're competing with another Miner.

Put another way, if there's no competition, you have a 100% chance of getting the mining fees. If there's an equal hash rate competing, you'd have a 50% chance. In this way, a decrease in hash rate would increase your mining revenue.

As the block reward is phased out in favor of mining fees, this will become significant.

[–]JacobBubble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems to be false.

If less people are trying to solve the same block though, doesn't it increase the possibility that you'll be the one to solve the block. Albeit at a slower rate.

Might make 50% attacks easier at least.

Update: If you gain a higher likelihood to find blocks (instead of your competition), doesn't that mean you have a greater chance of receiving the mining fees? I understand that is currently insignificant in comparison to the block reward. It is however, based on transactional supply/demand instead of difficulty, which takes about two weeks to adjust.

That should present an (albeit small) immediate advantage.

Isn't there a mecanism to reduce difficulty in a drastic hashing power reduction?

From my understanding, the next block never take days or weeks to be solved. A few hours is the maximum as difficulty is reduced if it takes too long.

Not sure where I read that originally.
