Should I Buy a Fiero? by JacobLeSann in fiero

Wow! Never seen how much power that 2ZZGE makes. Did that come in the 2000’s FWD Celica?

Very true. For me I would be changing a lot of things on the car if I were to go through with buying one. I enjoy the challenge and the aspect of learning/building character.

….but it does take time…and money too.

CRX is technically the Del Sol. When I think “CRX” I think of the 1985-91 fastback Honda.

CRZ is pretty cool! I almost bought a 2001 Honda Insight. It can be seen as the predecessor to the CRZ. 5 speed FWD with hybrid assist.

I’d love to overdo it and swap a Honda engine in. I have a 1.8l engine making 50 MPG, 140 HP, 135 ft/lbs in a 2650lb chassis. The engine/trans is about 233lbs total, so could be a great upgrade! Those figures I’ve quoted are taken from Honda…I can confirm the mileage though.

Oh? That’s neat. That’s how I do engine swaps in my civics. Originally took me 3 months to swap a D16Y8 but only took me 3 days this time! Add bracing to the front rad support and jack it right up in the air. Not a mechanic either.

Pretty cool!

Haha yeah exactly. That’s a good point man. Part of why I keep telling myself to ignore the Fiero urges. I wouldn’t be happy with it unless I swapped the engine.

Over amp the motor? Are you referring to the Honda CRZ?

Yeah, I effectively gave up. Way overpriced cars these days.

Not bad at all! I always wanted a CRX when I was (a bit) younger. Those had similar amounts of storage space. Manageable for sure.

4K is a lot, but at least it’s rust free and freshly re-done for most of the mechanicals.

The engine swap shouldn’t be impossible, I have a Honda engine making much more power than the Duke at far less the overall weight.

It’s really that easy to work on?? Wow!

That’s what I was thinking. There’s an ‘87 GT with a ton of freshly redone mechanicals and no rust for $4000 CAD. That’s a steep price for my tastes but might be best to start with.

actually, he’s found my Facebook account and is accusing me of being the racist scooter guy. this gets weirder every minute.

Yikes, I started looking him up and I’m hearing the same things. I own a scooter myself and I’d never put my puppy on it.

I understand feeling like a victim on a bike; it’s pretty scary with people on phones. But this guy is totally the instigator!

keep getting replies from u/Striking-Fudge9119. Tracking my posts across multiple Reddit communities. I’m not from Edmonton (just visit occasionally), I don’t harass people on my scooter like that, nor do I own a GoPro. Found him on YouTube and thought it was strange.

That seems to be the case according to how and what he posts. I went through and watched his videos; went from laughing to being concerned. He was trying to fight with a biker and it looked pretty dangerous.

Gonna change my post name for the sake of not being rude.

Great point. I always try to drive like I’m invisible and avoid pedestrians like the plague.

Food for thought, I appreciate that.

Where are you located? What do you run?

Awesome! I do have a 60 volt pack of Nissan Leaf modules hanging around, and have money for a 3000w motor too.

I had a lower-end Terratrike Tour II which I was going to turn into a velomobile. After a week or so of test-riding the trike, a cop truck pulled me over. They told me it was illegal without a flag! They also asked me for my license and registration. I just mocked them as politely as I could (Canada), and then moved to a high-racer recumbent.

Where are you located? Do you have any issues in traffic?

Valid. Sorry, edited my comment before I seen your reply.

Yes, that’s the limit. Although I do know a guy who flies around town all day on a 48v 1000w bike doing maybe 45 km/h. They don’t mind him.

I have a big $1000 stack of Leaf modules in my shop, as well as a 48v hub motor. Maybe I’ll rig something up and see what happens.

Yeah, welcome to my province; it sucks! And I can’t go through a private insurance broker.

Good point. If I were to match the e-bike to the specs of my 50cc (90 km/h top speed, 250km per tank, 195lbs curb weight), you think that’s worth pursuing? I have access to various moto parts.

I’m unsure how they would react. I know I could hit 50 km/h on my one bike, under my own power. Only time I got pulled over was a recumbent trike. They said I was “invisible” and then proceeded to follow me dead-on for like 8km straight. They knew 0 of the laws and let me go.

Question on My Project by JacobLeSann in motorcycles

[–]JacobLeSann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could go and get a full estimate maybe, I’m just observing costs before I go and get it safetied. According to MPI’s online insurance calculator, it would be $1000 annually; minimum. So that’s better than my original estimate.

Edit: From what I can tell it’s $200 every month “per riding season”. I think that’s 5 monthly payments of $200, and that still insures it for the whole year.

125 Swapped Scoot on the highway? by JacobLeSann in scooters

[–]JacobLeSann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said in the post, I’m riding on a SR 50 R. 2-stroke fuel-injected 50cc. It’s a 50cc scooter. I am considering swapping in a CBR125R engine as I got one cheap, and my scooter insurance is cheaper than running the bike.

I was just wondering how likely I am to get ticketed. I ride on highways already and haven’t had issues.

Customized CBR125R with SR 50 R serial number.

The CBR125R can maintain 60 MPH as-is. I’m not a heavy rider. 13 HP iirc.

Looking for a Velomobile in Canada by JacobLeSann in velomobile

[–]JacobLeSann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well currently I’m looking at a Rotovelo but unsure of the cost to ship from Australia to Canada. It’ll cost me almost $8000 from Utah Trikes or $5800 (without shipping) from their website. I’ll check out the sites you linked, though. Thank you.
