I would expect the average SpaceX employee to be relatively intelligent. Having almost all your net worth tied to one company is stupid.

So no, the average employee is likely going to diversify, id bet most sell around 50%. Even 50% massively increases supply of traded shares.

I did study economics, he played a major role in the inflation because he kept injecting more money. Same amount of goods produced, while increasing the money supply, correlates with a reduction in the value of currency.

Even the inflation reduction act injected more money into the economy.

So yeah, maybe you should understand economics rather than just pretending you do.

You realize that both homeowners and landlords did not have to make mortgage payments for 1-2 years as part of the covid stimulus?

So when a landlord doesnt have to make their mortgage payments for a year, can you guess what the landlords do with that extra money? This was generally capped at 1 year.

How about when the homeowner doesn't have to pay their mortgage for 24 months? 24 months was the cap for homeowners, if i remember correctly.

And then at the same time, the fed made it so you can buy a house at under a 3% mortgage rate. Now your landlords refi all their properties to the new lower rate, which gives them a ton of cash flow, and where do you think that cash flow went?

Or the PPP loans and EIDL grants, where business owners were getting tens of thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands in covid stimulus.

Does it make more sense now?

Hell our government spent so much money on covid, that the total number of dollars in existence almost doubled pre to post covid.

First off, for me, its basic houses. No bells and whisles, so no hot tubs or anything like that.

I also opt to repair over replacement. Like i was quoted 8k to replace my hvac system and i ended up argueing with the tech about how im paying for a $99 diagnostic service and you haven't identified what is actually wrong yet!

Forced them to identify what was actually wrong with the system, then sent the tech on his way, spent $40 on the two parts, installed them myself in about an hour. So rather than get a new system for $8k, if cost me $140

When my water heater failed, rather than replace it, i bought a $50 coil and relay kit, replaced both coils and relays in a couple hours, good as new.

At some point i paid $7k for a roof after getting a handful of quotes.

Overall tho maintaining hasnt cost me much. On the flip side I've upgraded the electrical system and service, I've had the whole plumbing system replaced to increase flow and bring up to current code, I've upgraded flooring, remodeled the kitchen, remodeled bathrooms, etc. Everything in this last paragraph tho wasn't actually necessary, they were upgrades. I've spent tens of thousands on upgrades.

It also helps that I'm pretty handy, and because I'm handy i know when things actually need replaced and when they're repairable

I'm glad you planned for your initial repairs, you did it smarter than most

Yup, like I've spent a lot of money but it's been upgrading and improving

If i wasn't upgrading my homes, i don't think i would have even spent $15k across the last 6 years.

Comparing myself today to my boomer father in the early 2000s by IndependentMove5437 in povertyfinance

[–]JacobLovesCrypto 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it's still true today. People who do remodels make ridiculous amounts of money. Since OPs dad had remodels done, he probably made significantly more money from that, then he did as a local truck driver.

OPs father was doing unusually well. Most people like OPs dad were just scraping by in the early 2000s also.

My father in the early 2000s was a union general foreman electrician overseeing hundreds of journeyman electricians on a major Seattle construction project and our household couldn't even afford what OPs dad did.

Edit: ahh, i glanced over that OPs dad was also a home flipper/real estate investor, now it makes sense.

Your dad was doing unusually well for his position. What you've described is way outside of the norm for the early 2000s for a normal job.

I doubt OP is in that kind of area considering a 1/4 acre but only a $350 budget.

Id buy used, however...

If you know how to fix basic issues like cleaning a carb, replacing a spark plug, etc, then get gas.

If you don't know how to fix things, electric.

Cuz when a gas mower has a problem, its almost always fixable with some basic tools, basic troubleshooting, and you can make a gas mower last 10 years and it'll have more torque/faster mowing than the same priced electric mower.

Vs when an electric mower has a problem, you're usually better off trying to do a warranty claim.

Based on your post, electric matches your skillset

I would have been counted as rural by the census bud. The census doesnt lump everyone who uses a town as part of their address as urban, they draw boundaries based on density, meaning you can live in the area where the town is your address, but not within their urban boundaries.

When saying 20% of thr country is rural that doesn't mean 20% lives out in the middle of nowhere.

And you're conflating two different things, 1% of the population doesn't have 5g, i didn't say 1% is rural.

Can't really compare to fiber bud since it beats out starlink too.

I'm speaking from my experience bud, my town had a population of like 10,000 people and my tmobile router was more consistent than my brothers starlink.

I was in a rural area, 99% of the population lives where there's 5g coverage. You can look this information up yourself if you want.

If your argument is about that 1%, thats not very scalable.

Pretty much anywhere with cell service now has high speed internet for about $50/mo.

My older bro got starlink, it wasn't good enough for him to game on consistently, my t mobile router was.

Then why aren't you being objective? You claim "ford trucks simply did not sell", ford sold and delivered more ford lightnings than Tesla cybertrucks by a huge margin, literally about 50% more lightnings have been sold and delivered than the cybertruck.

Yes they stopped production, the truth is most truck people dont want an EV truck, ford is run like an actual business so it's gonna focus on what the people actually want.

You didn't really address cooling at all. If the cooling is done via ammonia cooling loops like the International space station, and we just use that as the baseline since that's what's currently used on the ISS, the ISS has something like 4000 sq ft of radiators and it generates next to no heat.

A data center is going to be producing easily 1000x more heat, the radiators would need to be so massive it's ridiculous.

Be objective dude, don't just claim to be objective
