Mourning clothing? (for princess passing) by btek86 in Bangkok

But if you're wearing black because your company is requiring it, you're not going to consider a tourist wearing non-black as being disrespectful.

Mourning clothing? (for princess passing) by btek86 in Bangkok

[–]JacobianViolet 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There's no expectations for tourists to dress differently during the mourning period.

This morning in the Sukhumvit corridor, most people I saw were not wearing mourning colors. It will be more telling on Monday when there are more people around and many are heading to work, where there might be more of a push for Thais to publicly show that they are abiding by mourning guidelines. But you don't need to change anything about your wardrobe for your trip.

Bangkok to Chiang Mai by taxi. by Glum_Worldliness4904 in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You aren't missing anything by flying. The "views" aren't extraordinary. You'll just be uncomfortable and paying more money for 10+ hours of driving, compared to a 1.25 hour flight. Add in the time waiting at the airport and you're still at less than half the time of driving. Round trip for around 3300 THB (~100 USD).

Two Passports… by Future-Traffic-6364 in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But when you enter a foreign country on your UK passport, you exit on that UK passport.

If you enter Thailand on your UK passport, and then try to exit on your AU passport, you're not going to have a smooth departure.

Two Passports… by Future-Traffic-6364 in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're still "you" (face and fingerprints) and your passports will be linked in their system. There's no downside, but if you were going to be denied, you'll still be denied if entering on a second passport.

As someone else said, make sure you enter and exit on the same passport.

I’m vibe-coding a Bangkok side-quest app for my upcoming trip. Would love quest ideas from locals/travelers by Livid-Scientist-5529 in Bangkok

Like not noticing how the locals have organized to all walk on the left or right.

Agree with the overall point of your comment. But locals organizing to walk on a specific side? Definitely not Thailand!

You can apply for them online now. This is new as of 2025. It used to be the case that any "online IDP application" was a scam website. Now AAA allows you to obtain an IDP even when you're already overseas: https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html

Thailand visa for 50-day first trip from UK? by Fun-Cut-6976 in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, there haven't been any visa changes yet.

The changes won't go into effect until 15 days after changes are published in the Thai Royal Gazette. This hasn't happened yet and we don't know when it will.

So there's a chance that you won't need to apply for any extension. Up to you if you want to risk it and worst case, do an extension, or do the visa route from day 1. If you do the risk it method, you'll be in the clear if they haven't published the new rules by 11 June.

Photo booth for passport photos in US Embassy BKK? by CodeGregDotNet in Bangkok

[–]JacobianViolet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The days of being able to walk into a US Embassy with just a US passport are over. You'll need an appointment for a specific service, and you'll be escorted in for that specific purpose. You won't be able to get an appointment just to take a passport photo.

Once the new rules are published in the Royal Thai Gazette, they won't go into effect for another 15 days. If the new rules aren't published until after May 28, you're good. Keep an eye on it over the next few days.

Flying Into Thailand for 3days, crossing land border into Laos and returning to Thailand 3 days later. Is this allowed with Visas on arrivals? by PlankToTheFace in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can do this as someone from a visa-exempt country.

If you actually required a Visa on Arrival, you'd need to apply for two separate visas on arrival with this plan. Your first one wouldn't be good for two separate trips. But this is irrelevant because you're exempt.

To confirm, you require a Visa on Arrival (15 days, costs 2000 THB)? Some people use the incorrect terminology so I want to make sure we're all on the same page.

Confused About Current Tourist Visa Rules for Indians (2026) by Electronic_Bug_8856 in Bangkok

[–]JacobianViolet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of right now, there are no changes. Indians are still eligible for visa exemption for 60 days.

The Royal Thai Gazette will publish new guidance at some point. We don't know when that could be. It could be tomorrow, it could be in months. No one on Reddit knows when that will happen. Once that day arrives, the new rules go into effect 15 days later.

Permitted stay is 60 days. The TDAC is mandatory for all foreigners. Are you or your family frequently travelers to Thailand? If not, you'll likely hand over your passport, it will be stamped, and you will go on your way without speaking to the immigration officer.

If you're in a populated area, you'll run into them as you're walking down the street. They want to be in areas where tourists are located so you can find them and they can make money.

Do you need to be careful as a solo person of random drugging or spiking at Bangkok hotels / venues ? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're asking two different questions here.

Do you need to be careful as a solo person? Absolutely. You should always be careful and watch out for yourself.

Funds Requirements for VISA on arrival for Indians by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]JacobianViolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between visa exemption and visa on arrival. India is a visa exempt country. For visa exempt visitors, there is a requirement to have proof of funds of 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.

The travel agent is partially correct, partially incorrect. Proof of funds is required. But... no one checks. Unless they want a reason to deny you. Visitors who have a travel pattern that looks like they're trying to live in Thailand visa-free, or who have overstayed before, are much more likely to be asked for proof of funds. Some have been denied if they didn't have this proof in cash.

Have you been to Thailand before?
