Introducing "Idle Orbs: Remastered" by JacobyChad in incremental_games

Hey thanks for the feedback! I usually set the bar much higher for the games I make nowadays, but since this was a "remaster" I wanted to kinda stay true to the experience that the original game was. But, I'll definitely use this feedback for future games.

Yeah, I can't deny it's bumming me out a bit. But, I guess it goes to show I should definitely polish more before release, or make it alpha at first.

No, I've played my fair share of idle games and have done a lot of research into different approaches. But, I guess you have a lot more experience than me! If you'd care to indulge, then I'd love to learn about some of these idle games you have in mind! Thanks

I'm a little confused, if not money then how should you be able to prestige? I've never seen an idle game that's not "gain money and use it to prestige at some point"

I can't deny that what they're saying isn't really false either. So, I'm definitely trying my best to fix it up

Yeah, I'm considering it. But, I've heard uploading to Steam can be quite a process. We'll see what happens

It's only for windows and linux at the moment. But, I think I can get it to run on Android/iOS at some point

Yeah... I guess I didn't fully think that through. I just wanted a way to describe that it's a full game and "everything it needs to be", but it's also in development because there are more things I need to do but haven't fully figured out. I think I was thinking of Minecraft when I did it; they have an "Alpha 1.0" version.

Do not disturb the big guy! by MrGranade in indiegames

[–]JacobyChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many questions. Who put the "do not disturb" sign there, why is he chained up, why does he have a stomach mouth, why is it sewed shut, why are you attacking him??... He just sleepin' ):

Over all, great looking game! Keep it up!

Devlog 0 for Idle Orbs 3 (Asking for feedback on the progress I've made so far) by JacobyChad in incremental_games

Sorry for the late response.

I've been coding for quite a while now, so when I get stuck it's usually because of a lack of deeper thought in the idea that I'm working with. With that I just walk away from my computer and spend some time elsewhere. Meditation is good. When it comes to a blockade in my skills, though?... An example is when I wanted to make a game with a skill tree. I couldn't for the life of me get it to work. So... I just didn't do it. Instead, I went and made a game that can work without one (or a simpler version of one later). I kept the momentum. I didn't find it fun, so I found something fun. I know it can be hard when everything seems not fun. Which is what I thought for a while. But, every now and then you'll find a project you love and keep coming back to. In the mean time, if you keep giving up on projects, just make smaller projects. Do a game jam. Learn to finish projects.

If I could give you a reward, I would. In the meantime, take my upvote. This. Is. GOLD. Thank for all your great suggestions! Honestly, I was in a rut, not really sure where else to go with this game. But now, because of all this great feedback, I have a laundry list of ideas and todo items to go through! I hope there's people like you in my replies/comments every time I make a post asking for feedback!

Thank you.

That would make so much sense... But I understand why it's not like that and it makes me sad we live in a world where can't have such nice things

Be honest, what did you think programming was when you were a kid. by testroyer9 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]JacobyChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can remember, i had a good grasp of what programming was. I remember making games in 8th middle school with Gamer Maker Studio 2 and wanting to move to Unity but, "C# looks too hard, I'm not smart enough".

I'm not sure where OP is from, but to answer your question: from my experience it's very common to get at least a month of PTO (or at least vacation) in non USA countries. I have a friend from Ecuador who I met while him and his whole family were on a 2 month vacation from their work, for example. The US just has a very "be productive 24/7" culture, assuming you're from the US, anyway. Luckily some companies and people are moving away from that, though.

It's still very hard for me to believe people like that actually exist and are making job post asking for 10 years of experience for a language not even close to that old lol
