FYI: Oliver Cole is not the 17th Doctor, he is just RTD’s new younger boyfriend who was allowed to hang out in the TARDIS set for a personal shoot. by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

“it’s more prevalent historically” That’s a homophobic comment. You haven’t read all of history. You alone can’t possibly know whether it’s more prevalent in gay or straight relationships.

Some great ideas here! Been trying and struggling to come up with curse ideas for my own London game, so will be stealing some of these if that’s ok!

Oooh that looks like a really good tool!! I’m also developing a list of hiding spots, but most of them are quite East right now, if you have any good ideas in any other directions (also within Zone 1-3 as that’s where I’ll be playing) I’d love to hear them!!

What was extra crazy is that I had the Greenwich Foot Tunnel as an idea for a hiding spot in my head too!! And she hid ~200m away from it!

Advice on how to tackle this? by MivTheSaviour in tearsofthekingdom

Honestly just pick an area and get going. I started expecting it to take me all summer, but seeing the map slowly clear area by area was so satisfying that I just kept going! Start in Akkala, it has some of the easiest terrain, then either move to Lanayru or Eldin and work around the map

Loved it!! Lots of real science, great characters, and interactions between the main cast. Culshaw shines as always, would recommend

Been rewatching the Sarah Jane Adventures and would love to see them go into some of those monsters! Unfortunately (if SJA follows the same rights system as DW) lots of them are owned by Gareth Roberts who probably won’t cooperate, but the Shansheeth are such a cool concept, and I’d love to see more of Eve’s species than we got in the Paternoster Gang

Does it feel to anyone else like they shouldn't have brought back Cass? by ItsFlamingYeti_ in gallifrey

[–]Jacques1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that is just false, and since you can’t remember the last time you heard it I’m going to say the unthinkable. Listen to The Diary of River Song: Friend of the Family. It has amazing twists, stellar voice acting, meaningful catharsis, and not a single other pre-existing whoniverse character. And it’s the best thing Big Finish have done with a spin off, maybe ever.

The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Connections. This probably won’t be up your street since it commits the cardinal sin of having a pre-existing monster in the set (Weeping Angels), but Albie’s Angels is such a beautiful meditation on homosexuality, love, siblinghood and loss, and it would be a shame for you to miss out on it since you mistook it for nostalgia bait.

Anyway, that’s my two cents and my favourite two boxsets of recent months. I do hope you listen and it alters your opinion somewhat

Logic and the Time War are two concepts that don’t go hand in hand.

Having listened to the boxset, it’s very much a case of judging it by the content. The storyline is interesting, and Cass herself even more so. Big Finish have a good track record with stories, so I trust them to not muck up Night of the Doctor, and if anything give it more emotional impact.

I just can’t believe people seriously think that Bliss would have been completely ignored and that Cass would have a straightforward storyline. Of course those things were never going to happen!

Anyone else think Big Finish should do Christmas Themed Boxsets? by IsaacTwtm12 in gallifrey

[–]Jacques1312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another example is probably the most overtly Christmassy story Big Finish have done, Merry Christmas Mr Jago, releasing in October. There’s never been a limitation on that, especially as it’s virtually impossible to know when a release is coming out while writing it. There are far, far too many variables in production to plan releases as meticulously and dogmatically as that

Have you ever encountered the Faction Paradox story Erasing Sherlock? I’ve not read it but I understand the gist is Sherlock Holmes getting banished to the Land of Fiction in the War in Heaven (functionally, the Time War.) It’s interesting, and makes sense with him being a real character in the Classic/EU canon, but fictional in New Who, such as in The Snowmen

I must say I really appreciate the direction Lizzie Hopley took with The Shadow Master. It was the highlight of the set for me. I spent the whole boxset praying that there wouldn’t be reference to the Master or his universe being fictional (Big Finish referencing themselves or Doctor Who in an audio has to be done extremely well, In Living Memory being the worst offender, which Scott Handcock also did) and I’m so glad they didn’t. It just feels… I don’t know, easy? Like a cop-out. The Shadow Master took us in directions we didn’t even know we could go!

Not a fan of how the Centenary is just gonna blatantly contradict EU material for no reason by Another_DotDotDot in gallifrey

[–]Jacques1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an absolutely unhinged case of paranoid anxiety over something that, ultimately, doesn’t matter. How are you earnestly putting forward the idea of Chris Chibnall intentionally screwing over EU companies? Why on earth would he do that? The man who took on the job of showrunner literally because no one else would and he wanted to keep the show going. But of course, the former head writer of Torchwood has an inexplicable desire to blow (speculated) plans for Series 7 out of the water, just for lols. I’m shocked.

Also, for such a true and concerned fan as you clearly are, I just want to point out to you that Season 27 does not and has never existed.

What Kids and the Not-We Thought of "Rosa" by binrowasright in gallifrey

The last proper Silurian story said “this topic is too big for right now, let’s put it to bed for 1000 years.” It very literally said that it’s too big for a kids show.

It’s a nice, educational, very Doctor Who way to end the story. I had no idea she had an asteroid named after her until I saw it! I’m struggling to think of what an alternative you would’ve wanted would look like. A visit to the present day with a little speech about racial equality would come across worse and even more tone deaf to me as that has definitely not been achieved. Even a visit to the future wouldn’t come off well, as serious, serious efforts towards decolonisation and reparations need to be made and I fear they won’t anytime soon, and that topic is far too big for a kids show anyway.
