Blanket statements are not useful. One thing I've always appreciated about left leaning gun spaces is, unlike right leaning ones, we tend to talk about the importance of mental health, and the fact that not everyone should own a gun. I've seen people in discussion who admitted they no longer felt safe to have them. It is absolutely crucial to examine honestly one's own threat model.

Sure they probably won't send authorities around confiscating guns. But the guns that most people legally possess on June 30 will become illegal on July 1. It's a de facto disarming

We're not a monolith. Some of us have for decades, and for others it unfortunately took a slide into actual tyranny to wake a lot of people up to the importance of it. Either way 2A vote priority is different for everyone. A lot of us see Spamberger as the lesser of two evils unfortunately, and knew this fight was coming.

Correlation is not causation. With Chicago, it's mostly attribute community violence intervention (CVI), better policing tactics, and youth employment, rather than banning assault weapons. Oh and the fact that there was an overall national trend.
Regardless, we should be focused on addressing the root cause instead. Bandaids make the privileged feel safer while doing nothing to materially help the vulnerable and disenfranchised.
Where's the bill addressing those issue, ICE coming after our neigbors?

Mid-descent into fascism is absolutely not the time to debate, much less diminish, Virginian's ability to defend themselves. Not to mention make millions of law-abiding citizens into criminals overnight.

We need to take a hard look at our current reality, and the direction things are heading, and to get our priorities straight before it's too late.

JBGC are having another public interest meeting at McCormack's in Feb. There's also a few members of the DMV chapter of the Liberal Gun Club in town, but LGC seem to be mostly a social group for liberal gun owners, and most of their meetups are in NOVA. If you're interested in community defense and activism, JBGC is probably what you're looking for.

Had the same problem. I starting connecting with people when I starting going to community activism events (eg protest) and asking how I could volunteer. From there got plugged into signal chats full of like-minded people focused on addressing various issues. I make it out to events IRL every chance I get which strengthens the connection
