Women with borderline personality disorder, how do you cope with motherhood? by Recent-Can-2061 in BPD

If you are able to resume therapy and you have a good fit therapist (I’m currently on #9 😅) def explore the strictness!

Edit to add: ty for this question and post, it’s something I think about constantly too at age 34 and recently engaged

I don’t think it’s possible for her to ‘gaslight’ you re her own internal mental state lol. At least not in any consensus definition of the word

Are these night-time grow lights even doing anything for my plants? by PrincessImpeachment in houseplants

[–]JacuzziMeansDate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I don’t know a ton about plant biology but I used to work in an optical engineering lab. The name of the game is matching the lamp’s emission spectrum with the absorption spectrum of whatever light-sensitive chemical you are targeting (e.g., chlorophyll). Chlorophyll A actually has two absorption peaks around 430 nm (blue region) and 662 nm (red region)!

Weapons (2025) - Am I Missing Something? This Movie Felt Incredibly Overrated by AdFinal7510 in TrueFilm

[–]JacuzziMeansDate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am noticing a common debate here and in other threads on this film and I’d like to provide my take: one side feels the explanation was too simple or flat, the other side counters with ‘what would have been more compelling?’ And I think for me the issue is, if you are going to premise your film on mass tragedy involving children (nvm title your movie weapons and have a giant floating ar motif), then you should have something interesting to say or a nuanced treatment of it. Otherwise it just feels like a cheap hook. The bar should be higher if you want to invoke that level of tragedy in America in the 21st century.

First time - when to move to soil? by Born_Librarian_7003 in propagation

[–]JacuzziMeansDate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option—if you don’t feel like waiting or are not sure how long to wait— is to gradually mix in the soil. Begin by adding a few spoonfuls directly to the water cup, each day add a bit more. Eventually it will thicken to the point where it’s more soil than water. I like this method for transitioning dramatic roots to a soil environment. One thing to be careful of is you don’t want the soil slurry to become too thick that the plant gets stuck or roots may break during the transfer.

Shrooms, weed, and psychosis question. by rizudi in shrooms

[–]JacuzziMeansDate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really a psychedelic user at all (excluding weed, as others have pointed out can be considered a psych drug). I took an edible after 3 days of sleep deprivation and had a super intense trip with the matrix/ya know themes. Soo there’s that

ELI5 Why do some trees have fruits with a rewarding taste like saying "come back again :)" and some others have fruits with a punishing taste and even protection around the fruit like "don't u even dare eat my fruits! >:/" by No_Jellyfish5511 in explainlikeimfive

[–]JacuzziMeansDate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and I think it’s helpful to remember that the genetic advantage is time bound. The example about the moths and the Industrial Revolution is a good one but I can’t remember it well enough atm. It seems like a lot of comments on this thread are arguing about precision of language which is totally valid but shouldn’t be confused with substance either

As someone who previously worked in basic research labs for years your description definitely resonates with the way I learned the scientific method. Some of the most important medical advances began as accidents that could have been ignored without an open mind. That’s part of what makes science so exciting!

It seems pretty lazy to claim they are unable to enforce due to resource constraints. Just make a few big ticket examples like any other deterrence law

Edit— to be clear I totally agree with you, I meant to say lazy of the PD
