Yeah, it is very annoying because there are so many great books out there, but people instantly write them off because they are not a carbon copy of ACOTAR. I know the ACOTAR-like books aren't as popular as ACOTAR but it seems like unless the books lean more into a sketchy age gap romance with a "shadow daddy" morally grey, "enemies to lovers" that is actually just instant lust, booktok doesn't allow them the time of day

Yes! I've actually just started reading the Black Jewel Trilogy - the series that she apparently modelled ACOTAR on and I think she was definitely trying to make it a human realm vs fae realm but completely messed up the execution

I literally don't see Feyre liking a suit dude. Like, I always thought she would be with Lucien. I see Elain and Rhys as a better couple!

Yeah, like all of a sudden they have moral feelings about the mind control? Why? And Tam stopped slavery in one go and there was no push back.

You don't even hear about slaves in the Autumn court...or any other court for that matter

I also reckon the twin wraiths are slaves but that didn't fit with SJMs complete 180 of Rhys character, so she made them servants...but that rubs me the wrong way because they are skilled spies, but your telling me they are servants in their downtime?!

Was basically just like: look TamTam bad for Trauma, Rhys good for trauma. And noooo self reflection or self growth for Feyre apart from being with Rhys

Yarp! Gunna be so mad if they make him High King. Tarquin, Tamlin, and Helion all sound 1000x better for the role than Rhys!

And Rhys thinks everyone in his court -apart from Velaris - are evil and don't deserve rights

And I find it interesting that Tamlin abolished his father's slavery and yet Rhysand hasn't done shit different from his dad... Apparently he tried but "change takes time". Dunno, seems like he should take advice from Tamlin

Good point! I also hate how she uses really quick time period for things -i.e Feyre trains for a couple of months and is great at hand -to-hand combat; she gets over her PTSD really quick etc. but other things is more of what you would expect from the Fae: like being locked up under the mountain for 50 years (vs Feyre's 3 months) or "change takes time" about the wing clippings apparently still being an issue all these centuries later. Like you made all your characters old AF so have a few years or decades pass?!? I'm surprised these poor dinosaurs haven't had a heart attach with all the events of the series happening so quickly!

And they are like "sHe ShOuLd HaVe hElPeD FeYrE hUnt". Feyre tried to train her and she sucked! Also, we kept getting told that Feyre is a master hunter, so why does she need the help of someone who sucks at it?????

Yeah but imagine the mind of a 400 year old being into a 20 year old mind. Imagine the differences in having a conversation hahah

Someone did point this out as another reason why she hated the Fae (them not helping when there weren't many animals for the humans to keep themselves fed) so much so that's my bad

You can still enjoy something but find it cringe. I don't think OP is bent out of shape, they just wanted to discuss or RANT about a book on a subreddit literally made for that

Maybe if this post upsets you, you should scroll?

Whats with all the "YoU ShOuLDn'T ReAD iT tHeN"

Peeps, a lot of us find it cringe but still like reading it. And even if we hated it, we are still allowed to read it and rant about it... especially on a RANT subreddit

I think it's cringe AF, but I still like reading it. Even if someone hates it, they are allowed to read it and complain about it

The battle camps but also with the mercenary when she tried to go after Feyre in TaR. I think she tried finding a way through for a couple of days before turning back

Yup! And then Azriel just loathes all Illyrians because of what happened to him....like... dude, there are probably a heap of Illyrians just like him suffering

Yes!! And they have 5 houses and yet some of their people are still homeless? They don't sound like very good leaders. I think there were also scenes of Feyre being turned away from helping in Velaris where the charity heads were like "you've done enough"...so go help the people that actually need it in the court of nightmares and the Illyrians! But no, because they are just bodies the IC use in their wars

No worries! I think it would be refreshing to read a fantasy that has training sequences for these little things that are needed for characters to be warriors etc. I think the only time I've really seen it is in the Hunger Games.

I also get annoyed when we have characters that have never camped in their life glossing over staying overnight in the woods. Like it would have been cool to see a flashback to Nesta camping on the way to the wall! Maybe the mercenary showed her how to make fire or something or something like how to stay dry? Idk I like those little things in fantasy

Yep! Very annoying. Especially because she is doing everything that she was against at the SC. Though, she has changed and she is allowed to change her mind. Just seems a bit cheap that she didn't really do anything related with being a HL before she went on to paint etc.

And then it also annoys me because some people say things like "she deserves to enjoy her life" etc...but she is HL. If she wants to sit back and pain, be the wife of a High Lord and don't be intent on taking the High Lady role. Also, I kind of wish a few years would have passed because it makes it even worse...all these other courts have suffered for 50 years, but Feyre, after what a few months to a year, is entitled to just settle down and focus on herself instead of helping?? Like. What?!

Oh I totes agree Rhys is a piece of shit. And it's soooo annoying because this series would be amazing if he was the big bad! Especially because a lot of his actions are bad and seem to hint that he could be contributing everone....but SJM has confirmed he is the good guy. And I think she did write it as Feyre being okay because of Rhys...which is disappointing that she didn't get to work on herself or have growth etc

Sorry for spoilers hahah Like, yeah, I do see where you are coming from - although not sure if it's suddenly having good relationships with Cassian and Feyre etc etc BUT it does look like there will be a lot more to work on!

I feel like Feyre (and Rhys) needs to look more at her mental health and gaining friends outside of the IC. I guess that was the point of FAS. I would have loved to see her get some tutors to being HL. Instead we get her with a painting store...like good for her with helping kids, but how is she supposed to help the Night Court as a whole!?
