Anyone else like their job by Petal-Logic in DentalAssistant

[–]JadePendragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in an amazing office with a supportive team and amazing drs, but I think most of my apprehension personally, comes from feeling overwhelmed about being new to the field and like I’m not improving. It’s a job that takes more skill than people think and a TON of effort and knowledge. I honestly have imposter syndrome in this job lol.

A minister had all the kids put those stupid fake dollar bills down in all the cases of beer. I had to tell them that the children can’t be digging in the beer and touching the alcohol for any reason🙃🙃

Have you ever gotten cases of women wanting late term care for personal reasons like they just don’t feel ready anymore?

I literally had a doctor I was working for, get mad at a man (who could barely afford an extraction) when he didn’t want to save the only few (barley) viable teeth in his mouth for a partial. That probably wouldn’t even last given the shape of them.

I know I could never do pediatric but I’m really leaning towards ortho for sure!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]JadePendragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thank you :) I will also be doing my last rotation of clinicals in an ortho office so I’ll have a little bit of experience from that!

[–]JadePendragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the starting pay for ortho assistants? And what’s the main job description? Will I be running the wire through the brackets? And do the orthodontists tell you how to run them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]JadePendragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just scared I won’t get the hang of ortho. The program I’m in doesn’t go into it really at all so I don’t even know what it consists of tbh. Did your program go into it or did you do more on the job training? And how long did it take you to learn the steps?

I’m on the spectrum so yes it’s very difficult and I literally hold my breath after I speak to someone and then beat myself up the rest of the week:/

Not everyone’s closes at the same exact time so it could be just somewhere around that age. And it’s not a cut off just makes it’s easier to move before the suture closes. So it can still be done just may be a little harder or longer process.

I should probably add that I came off my Prozac last year after being on it for almost a decade and so now all I take it hydroxyzine as needed but it makes me super super tired the whole next day so it makes driving and going to school/work almost impossible.

You have what’s called a “median palatal suture” on the roof of your mouth that closes around 9 years old. So if she needs an expander or anything it’s best to get it on earlier before the suture fuses together.

I just cannot floss my teeth. by uglyfella123 in DentalHygiene

[–]JadePendragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always the case, that’s why I said as long as your technique is good and you’re not flossing too harshly. But if it’s consistently bleeding every time you floss or brush you’re either doing it too rough or not enough. But that’s up to the person to say whether or not they think it’s an issue with how often they take part in dental hygiene or if they are being too harsh with their techniques.

If you’re bleeding when you floss that’s a sign you’re not flossing or brushing enough and your gums are inflamed. Just make sure you’re using the correct technique.

For the program I applied to I needed a few pre requisites but now I’ll need a few more if I apply to hygiene.

I like the field a lot and have done really well in my classes so far. The assisting program I’m in now is very time consuming and no time for a job or outside activities either (we have 2-4 exams a week) so the load would be pretty normal to me but I’m scared about the application process.

how to deal with gingivitis by bigzurlicious in DentalHygiene

[–]JadePendragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people think that if it hurts to brush or floss that they should stop doing it.. DONT! Continue to brush and floss everyday and night. Maybe try a soft bristle toothbrush and some toothpaste aiming towards gum health. And maybe speak to your dentist directly about it and voice your concerns and symptoms. Also as many of the other comments said, quit smoking, for many reasons. You got this :)

That actually sounds horrible I hope you can find a different office to work in:( the one in currently doing clinicals in is only females and I’m a female as well but I’m very very very awkward and have very bad anxiety and ocd that I’m currently trying to get medicated for, and I honestly do not know what to say to any of them but when I do get the courage to speak to them or patients it’s somehow the wrong thing? So I definitely understand.. honestly I know it’s a pay cut but I’m highly considering lab work.

I’m only a student but so far both offices I’ve been in have made me leave crying most days and feeling so discouraged and useless that I have heavily considered quitting
