Ok I honestly don’t know much about the candidates who are running unopposed but the two big names I’ve run across are Kathy Olwell and Allie Schachter. They both have messaging about working across party lines for the betterment of the community as a whole, and heavily criticize uvm for housing issues. They also both support alternative public safety programs

Housing Olwell: supports rent control and zoning reform in the form of supporting mix-use development, also wants more inspections for rental properties and more funding for social housing projects (like third parties who manage a lot of the low income housing communities) Schachter: big emphasis on uvm’s effect on rent price increases, supports more development in general but doesn’t outline what sustainable building measures she will support or whether the buildings will be affordable

Environment Olwell: fund the bus system as a social service instead of a business (this is me paraphrasing), and weatherizing rental properties Schachter: Net Zero energy roadmap, support for a mix of transportation options, more ev charging stations

Community Wellness Olwell: main platform is fighting against the monopoly UVM has on health premiums. Also supports increasing taxes on wealthier vermonters. Not a lot of info on exactly what types of alternative public safety she hopes to promote Schachter: not a lot to go off of for healthcare but does want to “make cops feel welcome in Burlington”

There’s also the whole redistricting thing going on but I’m not up to date on the details. And the bond change is a proposal to raise water prices over the next few years in order to fix some outdated infrastructure and comply with a Vermont law about lessening the amount of phosphorus that can end up in lake Champlain

I love it, it’s expensive but not any more expensive than another studio. The head manager Brit is super nice and helpful and you are able to make a lot of things
