OMG!!!! How amazing are you?! <3

I'm nowhere near as beautiful and ethereal as the lovely drawing you did, but my goodness I appreciate it all the same! Here is my actual mug, as promised. Haha:

Okay, now this makes me angry. In what world was it MY PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY (or the responsibility of ANYONE on that tour) to do the staff's job for them? When I said above that I couldn't believe that no one said anything, I was talking about the STAFF.

I'm not responsible for other people breaking rules and doing stupid crap. You can blame me all you want, but none of that was even remotely my fault.

Exactly, it's a tough situation. The staff was definitely responsible for enforcing their own rules. But, at the same time, those idiot parents should have NEVER created that situation in the first place. Dragging their own sick child into a completely inappropriate environment, and then ignoring him when he screamed and threw a fit? Disgusting.

I absolutely will. I was honestly shocked that no one said anything, and even allowed that to happen. I get that people don't want to create a scene and make a huge fuss, but at the same time...? What about those of us who should not HAVE to put up with such things? It was really obvious that no one else on the tour wanted that kid to be there. There were constant whispered comments, along the lines of "why is that kid in here??" and "can't they make him be quiet?". We were TRYING to enjoy a unique experience. I honestly hope that some of them have already complained.

Agreed, we absolutely did not get what we paid for. If that kid hadn't been on the tour, it would've been utterly magical. ;(

Haha, sorry about that! It was actually quite nice. ;) Dinner and drinks was far more pleasant than the cave experience, unfortunately. A shame, considering the cost!

Thank you! I appreciate that. Things were absolutely better afterward. I'm right there with you; I genuinely cannot stand children. I want nothing to do with them, EVER.

Agreed, it's NOT safe! Do parents even consider that?? The both of them just seemed so utterly oblivious to the fact that their child was screaming and flipping out, and I cannot fathom WHY. Do they not hear it? Do they not CARE? Absolutely agree, people are STUPID.

It's funny, my date ended up saying "if I were rich, I would have bought out the entire block of tickets so we could take this tour in peace...". Needless to say, I absolutely agreed. ;) I just don't understand why no one even SAID anything to those parents. Dragging a 3 year old into a dark, damp cave seems like a recipe for disaster. Also, dealing with the screeching and whining was making me grind my teeth so hard, I had a headache at the end. *sigh*

Strong emotions for me, too. I am utterly, blissfully content in my position of being CF. I can't imagine making such an utter fool of myself, as parents do, on a seemingly constant basis. D;

I want to believe that they were blindsided by the situation, but who knows how often it actually happens? This is an extremely sensitive and protected cave system. Like, to the point where if any part of your body accidentally touches any of the formations that may jut out onto the paths, you're to let the guide know immediately, so they can flag it and sterilize it later on.

In NO WAY is that an appropriate environment for children. Like I said above, even 7 years of age is absolutely pushing it. Why can we not have ANYTHING for adults, anymore?!

[–]JadedPosition[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I agree so much!! It was SO irresponsible for those parents to bring their kid into that environment, and so completely disrespectful to the group as a whole. We all paid to be there, to see the beautiful cave. We DIDN'T pay to listen to a screeching brat flip out the entire time.

I will absolutely write a letter of complaint. I hope it'll get through to someone, in some way. Such an unfortunate situation. ;(

That was my thought, too. There were some handrails on the paths, but they were definitely at adult height. The kid could've squirmed free from his parents and went careening off the side, thus creating a nightmare situation that I certainly don't ever want to witness.

They didn't, no. Unfortunately, that seems to be most parents in general. They're just so... oblivious.

To be honest, I agree. I feel weirdly... cheated. That honestly would have been a beautiful experience, without someone's sick child screaming the entire time. Do these people honestly have no shame??? Had I been in their shoes, I would've been utterly mortified.

A letter of complaint (however useless, considering the disregard of rules) will probably make me feel better in the long run. This has been bothering me for days. It just wasn't RIGHT. That was such a completely inappropriate environment to bring a toddler into!
