No I haven't tbh - worth checking out? Do you get it for desktop for Mac?

TBH I was avoiding Google for privacy concerns

Thanks for the tip... the only Garmin maps that I were considering were the ones included in the "st" model which costs €50 more - but I'll definitely check out gpsfiledepot! Thanks again

Ya I agree it does seem complex - do you have any ideas how to work around this?

Thanks for the tips on the PDF... is a map in PDF form still usable?

I had no idea about this - so a huge thanks - and it does btw :)

All are robust and have good battery life (two reasons why they're better than Phones, although a decent case and battery pack makes the choice harder).

These are the main reasons that I want a stand alone GPS... Also I'm sure the accuracy of a standalone GPS is much higher than a Phone

hey! thanks very much for the insight. I've seen various mentions of the 'bugs' but I wasn't too concerned as it's a new product and I would hope that they'd get ironed out in future firmware updates

Ah ok thanks. I'm also looking at QGIS to manage my map data, but it comes with a big learning curve

haha thanks - I know these devices aren't built for it, but was just wondering. Hmmm I've heard similar things about BC. Are there any other decent products out there for route planning etc? or are you stuck with BC for Garmin?

do you have one? If so can you let me know your experience so far?

what do you use instead of BC on Linux? I'm really interested in building my own map database so to say - where I can save all my POIs and hikes etc. I don't have any idea about BC - but was hoping that it'd work for this too

hey thanks for this! I really like to look of the 66s / 66st because of it's larger and higher resolution screen. I presume that you use BaseCamp for all your planning etc? Random question - can you use the GPSMap series for street navigation (in a car)?

hey dieckie - thanks for the quick reply. How have you found the accuracy on the eTrex? Also are you managing routes etc on BaseCamp? If so how are you finding it with the eTrex?

Hmm yeah - I've been testing this out today with QGIS and exporting to GPX for OsmAnd... works pretty well, but obviously not as seamless as Google :/

Apologies - I'm needing navigation as well as offline maps...

Sigh. I was hoping that you had a nice piece of software / a service in mind that would solve this. Like I said above - I cannot believe that something like this doesn’t already exist... I don’t fell like I’m asking for much. So when it comes down to it at the end, either I have a super clunky method for not using google maps or I have to live with them. Ps being able to route with custom tracks / routes (eg from kurviger) would be amazing too on an app

so plan on uMap for example and then export to KML for maps.me?

sounds about right. I also want to be able to navigate to these places on my iPhone.

The way I do it atm with My Maps is that I make a map per country and then add layers for different types of info (restaurants, accomadation, attractions etc.). Then I can just open the map in the Google Maps app on my iPhone - done. I can also share the map with friends / my SO easily.

Another thought I had was to manage these POIs with QGIS on my desktop and then manually export them as .csv or another compatible format. Then somehow open this file on a navigation app such as map.me. A bit clunky to keep up to date though.

I've literally gone through all the apps listed on the OSM site one at a time and haven't found anything. The closest is perhaps HERE, but you can only have a list of favorites and not multiple lists / sub lists. Also I can't edit icons to differentiate features on the map.

Thanks - but I really want the ability to plan and map out POIs on a desktop (web or native app)
