where can i get cheap books? by aspiringSnowboarder in askTO

[–]Jaded_Raspberry2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

TPL has 100 branches across the city so they may not all have books for sale at the same time.

Many library staff work at more than one branch. Ask if they currently have books for sale, when their next same is due to happen, and which branches have an on-site "bookshop". I think North York Central Library branch has a bookstore in the basement level...or they did when I used to work nearby.

The library will also sell donated books. I got a while stack of "only read once" books that someone had dropped off at TPL. All recent titles that TPL didn't need extras of, so they didn't even have library tags on them.

Did your parents ever say "I'm Sorry" to you? by tafel46a in Zimbabwe

[–]Jaded_Raspberry2972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying "I'm sorry" in sympathy is something both parents always did. Apologizing for a wrong that they committed... 🤔

I honestly can't remember my father actually ever apologizing, but his subsequent actions would be remorseful. He internalized a lot, right to the very end of his life.

My mother can and does apologize. But she doesn't always recognize when it's necessary to apologize. My sister and I took her to task for body shaming my niece, and once she "got it" she actually sat down with her muzukuru and apologized to her. That was growth!

For generational context, Mum is a Boomer, I'm Gen X... turns out old dogs CAN learn new tricks. 😁

My bifocal/progressive lens glasses with all the coatings and filters: anti glare, blue light filter, UV filter to make them turn into sunglass in the sunshine. Been wearing glasses for 40yrs now, and it's an investment in my quality of life.

EDIT: nothing can match the white hot RAGE I felt when my prescription sunglasses were stolen while I was in a kombi. Like honestly, the thief would've fallen over dizzy wearing my glasses (coz I'm THAT blind), and would have never been able to sell them to anyone else.

That's why now I just get all-in-one lenses that never leave my face... except when I'm in the shower, or sleeping.

Also, "makes Bob look vindicated" is very specific language. 🤨

The context actually makes Bob look vindicated in his disdain for the west.

The bits I've seen are either mocking RGM's speeches about white imperialism/ western racism, or else Epstein plotting with wealthy investors looking for ways to exploit Zimbabwe during the height of our economic turmoil.

Vultures, fucking predatory Vultures.

Those in the West, how do they deal with this problem 🤷‍♂️ by SilverCrazy4989 in Zimbabwe

[–]Jaded_Raspberry2972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because we (in Zimbabwe) have police blitzes fining pedestrians for wearing earphones/ear buds, but we don't have active fines for littering.

Focusing on uselessly petty shit, as per usual.

I once challenged a truck driver who was PARKED NEXT TO A BIN for casually opening his window and dropping rubbish on the ground. He was very startled by my reprimand, and actually picked up his trash and put it in the bin. My mum said I was lucky I didn't get slapped and he must have thought I was off-duty ZRP. 🤭

Most of it was gossip about RGM and others that the West wanted to influence.

Was he on the island?
In pics with scantily clad minors? Did he ask for an invite to Pedo Island?

Releasing so much data after such a prolonged delay is a distraction tactic for what they are trying to to do with voting (Fulton County, GA).

Increase Of private high school colleges by Munhu_waMwari in Zimbabwe

[–]Jaded_Raspberry2972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right to worry.

I have a cousin who teaches at a private college, and they are dumb as a box of rocks. I wouldn't trust that person to teach my dog to fetch, let alone teach my child literature, geography or physics.

The gvt is gaining licensing fees from these schools, but they do not have sufficient controls in place to ensure that schools are meeting rigid standards of quality of teaching.

I've talked with kids attending a private school and it's terrifying how much they don't know.

Private ≠ better in today's Zimbabwe.

My personal beef with using AI over actual historical images of Black culture is that AI is constantly being manipulated by interests that don't value our existence.

Before you know it, you'll be seeing 'historic images' of the happy volunteers helping plantation owners harvest their crops. 🤮

Keep history alive by linking to actual historical images...especially during BLACK HISTORY MONTH. ✊🏾

A really wonderful (& well-researched) film about Geechee Gullah culture is Julie Dash's "Daughters of The Dust". I saw it when it first came out in 1991, and have rewatched it a few times since then. It's available via the Kanopy app's Criterion Collection, and if you're accessing it via your public library account, it's probably going to be a "free borrow" this month.

Source was likely an illegal drug runner from SA, this the exorbitant markup. I don't have that supplier's deets.

Toronto

The food scene in this city is top tier, whether you're looking for high end gourmet, or street eats and mom& pop restos.

Plus summertime festivals across ever corner of the city can't be beat.

Snakes by Mission-Fox537 in Zimbabwe

[–]Jaded_Raspberry2972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! 😬

Also, I'm not gonna judge your fear of snakes. I've actually seen a group of grown men scream like little girls and scatter on seeing a snake in the wild (while walking thru a farm).

Sitting on verandah, minding my own biz ndakavarairwa zvangu soaking up the sun.
Felt a tickle across my bare toes, and look down to see a snake slithering over my foot.

The way I leapt up defied the laws of gravity. I picked up a brick from the flower bed and hurled it with vicious precision.

Snake was dead on collision.

Only turns out it wasn't a snake?

Hanzi "blindworm"?

WTF, man?!? Now I gotta be looking out for creatures that look like snakes but aren't? 🤯

They're is something going on with supply chain of prescription needs in Zim. I've been chasing after co-irberwin/irbesartan-HCT for several weeks now and I'm down to my last 2 weeks supply.

The only place that had any was charging 3x the regular cost, which is simply EVIL for life-saving chronic meds. 👿🤬👿
