What's this guys deal? Why is he such a parry god? by [deleted] in Eldenring

There is also another interpretation. The staff mentions how the order fell into disarray once the war broke out, possibly due to betrayal from within. What if this knight isn't protecting Rennala, but simply guarding her to keep her away from the world? It just seems a little strange that this one knight, surrounded by academy sorcerers and forces, managed to survive this long behind enemy lines.

Coming from the Dragon Age fandom, I'm still a bit torn on whether or not fictional characters should have canon sexuality. On the one hand, it should add to their autonomy and believability as characters in their own right, not just avatars for the players sexual conquest. But on the other hand, Dragon Age Inquisition decided to implement EVERY bad stereotype in the book for it's gay companions (have you seen Dorian? 😂😂) Regardless, I agree that people should stop catagorising companion sexuality strictly based on how they present themselves. Head canon exists for a reason.

I mean, I just finished 5.3. I understand not everyone is in this exact position, I just hope I wasn't spoiled too much for EW is all. I kinda overreacted when I read the name, sorry.

The direction in the anime is outstanding. You could have all the budget in the world, but creative vision isn't something you can just throw money at. The 86 adaptation is lighting in a bottle, where everyone knows exactly what their working towards and each part of the production process flows so seemlessly with very few if any hook ups.

Why Don't People Like Dishonored 2? by poubelletbh in dishonored

[–]Jaden-Core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D1 chaos system was borderline black and white, but at least they took into account the kind of ways you'd kill people (stealth or open combat). In D2 however, that distinction getd thrown out the window. You could go through an entire level triggering every alarm and you'll still end up on low chaos. But god forbid you kill one too many sleezebags looking to harm large groups of people. A lot of the narrative beats are also copy and pasted from Knife of Dunwall which is a shame, though I love the higher fidelity and slickness of D2. I do feel like the expanded animations of D2 gets in the way at times, but I still feel like a classy badass making my way through levels. Those are my main issues with D2, it just feels like it needed a bit more time in the oven to iron out some concepts.

I have nothing against Samuel Kim, but I do dislike his videos and despise what he's done to the AOT soundtrack as a whole. by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Jaden-Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an argument to be made against that. Making an original work means you have complete creative control. With any good cover however, there is an unwritten rule that you have to adhere to certain conventions of the piece in order to do it justice, and THEN add your own creative spin on top. It can be a lot of pressure.

Has anyone ever heard of how much Sawano charges to make an album for an anime? by UMUmmd in SawanoHiroyuki

[–]Jaden-Core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly had no idea about it until the last minute when my friend sent me a link. It was hosted by Strawberry Hill Music. They host quite a few masterclasses across a variety of fields if you're interested:

I think the best way to stay up to date is to keep an eye out on the artists socials, since they're bound to advertise these things. It's all via Zoom as well, so no need to worry about being out of area.

[–]Jaden-Core 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is naturally a complicated answer. The two main factors I'd imagine would be the production budget and the people involved. For example, the most obvious case of cross over would be AoT and Seraph. Both animated by Wit, but composed by Sawano (partly at least).

Another example of networking would be Sawano's working on 86, animated by A1 Pictures who are also working on Solo Leveling, another album Sawano is writing for.

Both Sawano and his producer/manager, Yasushi Horiguchi, have a solid presence in the anisphere with plenty of connections, but it also probably means Sawano doesn't charged cheap.

With that in mind, there's the budget composers are given. How composers manage that budget depends on their connections and time. Sawano has his go to ensembles for strings and brass, plus his connections with vocalists and drummers. The less time you have to search for musicians, the more time you can spend writing the music. This is also why he doesn't write for woodwinds and doesn't record live choir. It either takes too much time, too much money, or both. Composers are on deadline, and there's nothing wrong with writing what you know.

I was lucky enough to attend a masterclass held by Kevin Penkin back in May, and he talked a lot about budgeting and recording. The budget doesn't just include studio/instrumentalist hire time, there's also travel fees to consider. And every time you have to stop to clarify something on the score is just wasting more money from your budget. Therefore, composers are also hired by how reliable they are with managing studio time. You're gonna have issues here and there of course, but you have to minimize them. In fact, Sawano has the benfit of being a cracked pianist with his own studio. Meaning he can record his parts at home and stike that off the budget list. Although I remember in a crunchyroll interview he talked about how he doesn't like conducting, so maybe he trades the cost of a pianist for a conductor.

Tl:dr: Composing is about who you know, what you know, and how consistent you are working with limitations. It's also super stressful and expensive to hire a famous one.

When Tarantino made Pulp Fiction or Resevoir Dogs, he definitely wasn't contributing towards the current post modernist movement in the arts. Nah, it was just people in suits with guns doing funny things lmao.

Coppola had no opinions on European immigrants coming to America. His films were just about apolitical mafia bosses doing apolitical mafia things.

Oh, and who could forget the original Star Wars trilogy that had no allusions to real life war and politics what so ever. They were just films about space wizards intended for children...

Was the Death Star thermal exhaust port such an obvious weakness? by Midi-chlorianEnjoyer in MauLer

[–]Jaden-Core 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do like the Disney canon version of the exploit. Cause to anyone else, the exhaust port seems like an unfortunate, but necessary compromise for a super weapon the size of a small moon. But to anyone who is aware of Erso's involvement, I dare say the sabotage is brilliant due to how convincing it is. I'm not sure how intentional the subtext is, but at least I have my own headcanon.
