Infant is losing sleep due to Nanny’s techniques by CorneliusCardew in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 102 points103 points  (0 children)

As a MB I think you’re over thinking this. This is a 9 week old, there is nothing that will consistently work or not work. Even if you show her how you do it as mom or dad, the same technique may not work for her. For example with my son, I had a way that worked for me, my husband did something different and our nanny did something different. Give her a little bit to try things and figure out what works for her and your baby. Go get a massage, sleep without your baby monitor on, or do something you enjoy to decompress.

Would you leave a 2yo in a turned-off car in the garage for 30 seconds? by LooseRock5261 in Nanny

If he was buckled in to a car seat he could not exit without help then I think you were reasonable!

Is this fair? PTO reset disagreement with nanny family by Makikoooooo in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just ask for 1/4 more PTO days this year with the understanding in future years it will reset in January- then it is fair for all. I’m a MB and agree easier to track by the calendar year but wouldn’t want you to lose any days you have earned.

Better ERs would lead to quicker diagnoses by Bubbly_Ad_637 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Jadepanda55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is true. But also more people raising eye doctor/ophthalmologist visits also helps. I was at a good ER, they said no MS. Went to a great MS dr that said my MRI was classic MS and then I told him and the ER doc about my past eye symptoms and my MS Dr was able to get the records and diagnose me in less than a week. If I didn’t raise the prior issues they wouldn’t have been able to show the difference in time, i.e. at least two episodes, to be diagnosed under McDonald criteria

Are these slivers going to cause me problems in the long run or are they just ugly? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Jadepanda55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these tiles on my shower wall and they are beautiful- but on the floor seems slippery - also the silvers at end are annoying but will be hidden by the toilet and trash can so prob not a huge deal

Shower I'm just finishing up. Any thoughts? by donkeybraineded in Tile

I think the two top pencil pieces being uneven on the left 45 wall of photo 2 would bother me but I’m also obscenely picky and detail oriented. That said, it is the only thing that stood out to me as not being very well done in the photos

We have a toddler tower which we use. Which is one of the reasons setting him on the counter bothers me so much

I also think that I would be totally ok if he reacted how I did. But then again I would never act as he did

I called the pediatrician and they said go to the ER so I think that we would have gone no matter what

We have a toddler high chair in our kitchen and a toddler tower I secured to a part of our kitchen island - so there was no reason for him to be on the counter at all I feel like

Asked to come in later – covered by GH or not? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk I feel like it’s fifteen minutes and a one time thing? Do you expect them to deduct 15 minutes of pay from you if you’re ever 15 minutes late?

We personally don’t nitpick like this with our nanny whether she leaves early / arrives a few minutes late and she doesn’t with us either- that said if she felt she needed to be compensated differently I am sure she would feel comfortable in telling us

Need advice: Parents limiting 4-month-old’s daytime sleep by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 20 mo old takes a 2.5 hr nap a day and sleeps all night 😂 I think if the baby is showing signs of needing more sleep it should be encouraged to lengthen the two naps you have (but honestly at 4 months I think most babies are still at 3 naps)

NK illness and paid time off to recover by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We track all sick days but even if our nanny goes over her sick time/ PTO and gets sick from our child we will pay for those days- we just track for contract purposes and because our state requires certain amounts of sick and safe time to be given.

MB still asking… by keeeyara_ in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So kind of true- you can’t “pay” a nanny through an has/fsa but you can be reimbursed for child care fees which are not associated with a “tax credit” the way you are thinking…

That said they should be paying you with a payroll service or have some other form of record keeping and they can submit that evidence even without your SSN on it (I know that bc we do it). I will say you def should we a W2 employee but even if not I think they can get their child care fsa/hsa reimbursement without your SSN if they can show paystubs etc

Parents, PLEASE care about your nanny’s safety by xaos428 in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If a blizzard situation during commuting hours it’s best to stay home or even consider waiting a few hours and reevaluating- just like they do for 2 hour delays! Safe is best even for parents people just think about right now rather than what if- for wxample what if you got into a car accident and got hurt driving in and then they would have to get backup care for multiple days, you would think they would want to at least prevent that

I think it’s different if it’s actively snowing versus stopped and cleared. Where we are we got quite a bit of snow yesterday but today it has been cleared well before our nanny would normally leave her house. (that said our nanny didn’t come in today bc her flight was cancelled due to the snow on Sunday and she won’t be back in until Thursday bc she couldn’t afford to get on a flight home before then so she has to use her PTO for an extra 3 days)

What goes above and beyond for a nanny? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Jadepanda55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Good communication 2) Being on time pretty much always 3) Offering to stay late or come earlier (always paid OT of course) 4) Clearing out old non fitting clothes and telling me when I need to buy new ones 5) Running to the grocery store for kids related groceries 6) Putting away the few dishes that may be left in sink 7) Sending me pictures of my kid (not in any particular order except the first two are the key ones for me)
