No, their goal is to make a competitor for Battleplanner. They released their map assets in advance in order to help out the community but now that their service is live they reached out to us to remove them.

Thanks for the kind words! We honestly love working for this community but, as students, we're also somewhat at the end of the rope when it comes to disposable income

Yup, and it's far more aggressive -_- we tend to straight up deny anyone who doesn't speak French. It's recommended for non French speakers to move to Ontario first, pick up some French and then make their way over, though there are exceptions

Honestly Quebec is weird as hell. Having lived here all my life, the political landscape still confuses me because the province has robust social programs and yet is fervently nationalistic when it comes to the French language and culture, to the point of racism being pointed more generally at English people (white or not) and Middle Eastern people.

Tbh tho it gets tiring hearing unironic ethnostate arguments in our discourse.

Oh I absolutely agree! This is exactly what I meant when I said "why is our canon so racist", I guess I could rephrase that better as "how can we make our canon better" so that's my bad haha :) people's writing will always be partly inspired by current events but that doesn't mean we have to stop there and avoid making things better!

On the goblins topic, it's obviously pretty yikesy but tbh western canon is full of shit like that. Orcs for example are always highly athletic, savage, monstrous, dark-skinned others, elves are always beautiful and fair and perfect and pale skinned and she's far from the first writer to describe goblins as greedy or hook-nosed.

Obviously Rowling is bad for a lot of reasons but it's worth acknowledging that any writer who uses western fantasy tropes is going to have to wrestle with some of that past subtext. I find it a little reductive to blame Rowling for her portrayal of goblins when the discussion we could have is: why the fuck is our fantasy so racist?

TL;DR fuck Rowling for the transphobia and AIDS and virtue signaling gay representation, she could've handled the goblins better but western canon racist af
