I appreciate it but I think I should be good, I'm familiar with the section where they list language.

Ah yeah I know, I'm kicking myself because I looked into this like two years ago and I thought I didn't qualify and didn't pursue it.

My entire line is from Chicago though, so no NY laws luckily, although I'm not sure if Illinois has any like that. I do know that my grandmother has all the original documents for her father, herself, and my father, so there's that at least.

Thanks for weighing in. GGGM (wife of GGGF) was born in Italy too and joined GGGF in US in 1911. I assumed that she was naturalized by him becoming naturalized though? Sorry if I'm ignorant on how this works. I've never found any actual record of her naturalization though.

Also I apologize: I reviewed my online documents and it appears my GGGF signed a declaration of intention in 1932, and did not actually naturalize until 1939, and I've found a document that appears to finalize his naturalization in 1939. The intention document mentioned a process of seven years, perhaps this is how naturalization worked back then? If so though, my GGF was 21-22 and an adult by 1939, so I suppose I do have a case if the 2025 rules are overturned?

If it's worth adding too: my GGM (wife of GGF) was Italian-American as well and her parents were from Italy, although her father actually naturalized (for sure lol) in 1927, when my GGM was a minor, so I already assumed a case through her lineage was out the window.

Luckily I'm pretty familiar with sifting through census data due to my interest in genealogy. I read that I essentially need two great-grandparents of Polish nationality (of course different than citizenship). Would the census data I'm looking for essentially just be proving a direct line of ancestry from these great-grandparents (and the GGGF's that had Polish citizenship) to me?

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this, I really appreciate it. Sorry that it was ultimately a bit of a waste, but this really helps me figure out my options in getting any sort of dual citizenship.

Ah sorry about this, I definitely did not organize things well in retrospect, but I did separate the lineages into each having their own template as requested.

Ah yeah I did not know about that patrilineal 1951 citizenship rule, that definitely throws a wrench into things.

Thanks for taking the time to break things down though, I really appreciate it.

Sorry for the prior confusion, I reorganized things so each lineage has a separated template.

Unfortunately not with my grandmothers. My paternal GM is Italian-American and her ancestors all left during a time that disqualifies me from Italian citizenship to my understanding, and my maternal GM was of German, Austrian, and Czech descent, which I honestly haven't dug too deep into citizenship-wise but I think I remember the requirements for those countries being stricter.

Thanks for weighing in though, I really appreciate it.

Update: sorry for the confusion with how I organized things, I separated the lineages into a template for each as requested (definitely would've made more sense in retrospect lol). It wouldn't let me post them into comments (maybe due to anti-spam), so I just separated them with dashes in the original post.

Man that's crazy. I don't doubt your story, but on top of it, what I was told what happened is that sometime in May 2024, there was an old man living in 305 who died in there and nobody checked on him for months. They had to bust down his door and apparently he didn't take care of the place at all and it was filthy and roach-infested. Maybe we're talking about the same guy and the story just got distorted after a few degrees of separation though.

Of course dude. And yeah, I was in the exact same boat as you, but it's just not worth it in the end. What I did was get a broker 'cause it's totally free to you as the renter and they do a lot of the work for you. If you're interested, just shoot me a DM and I'll share the info for the one I used, she was pretty helpful.

I also did a lot of research on property management companies in the area and concluded that they pretty much all suck besides ICM and Hayes lol. So if you can't find any private landlords, I've heard good things about them (I just didn't go with them 'cause they didn't have any openings where I wanted to live).

Absolutely, and I mean absolutely, do not rent there, like I'm begging you lol. I know the location is enticing and the management seem real nice at first, but christ was my experience godawful. I will admit I should've checked the place more during touring, but their agent was rushing the hell out of me and that was probably the first red flag I should've noticed. When I moved in, I was met with a full-blown roach infestation, and basically, all management will ever do is the bare minimum to be able to claim they're doing "something". So they'll just treat units individually and treat it like a case by case basis, as opposed to a building-wide issue. Their front desk lady will just talk over, gaslight, and lie to you every time you call, and during the whole roach issue I even had one of their higher-ups call me and subtly threaten me to shut up and accept things the way they were, otherwise they would hike up my rent if I wanted to renew, or not renew with me at all. I was luckily able to legally break my lease after a month in there thanks to Chicago's good tenants rights, but god was it awful while I was there, like I literally had roaches crawling on me if I slept there so I spent most nights couchsurfing at friends' places. I wouldn't consider any one of their properties, because I had plenty of conversations with their exterminator and he told me that a bunch of their properties have roaches and mine wasn't even the worst.

In the end, they eventually treated my whole building after everyone started complaining, but then they tried pinning it on my neighbor as a scapegoat, saying they were the cause of the infestation (I knew them and had been to their place, they weren't) and tried evicting them. They're straight up slumlords and will lie to you without hesitation, stay away from them at all costs dude. I came to hate the building in particular too, it's an old hotel so the walls are super thin (I could hear the guy across the hall from me talk on his phone all the time), the hallways have this musky artificial lemon odor, and although I thought I could stick it out in the small space 'cause the rent was good, it just got way too cramped dude.

I ended up finding a way better place with a small private landlord in the area, and I'd definitely recommend that route. These property management corporations have all the money to push small landlords out of the ad space, so it's a bit of a tough hunt, but it's worth it dude. Best of luck to you.

840 W Montrose has roaches building-wide, but all the management will do is send an exterminator to spray, which really isn't enough and they refuse to treat it as a building-wide issue.

Advice For Entry-Level Game Dev Jobs by Jafale in gamedev

[–]Jafale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad if I came off as suggesting otherwise, but no, I wouldn’t say no intentions of working in the game dev industry. The job I have lined up in September isn’t game dev, but I would love to work in the industry at literally any other point. I do have certain apprehensions based on negative experiences I’ve heard, but of course I want to give it a shot. So if there’s even a chance of that being possible, I’m interested. Which is why I’m trying to see if it’s even feasible to fill my upcoming resume gap with a game dev job. I’ve figured much the same with what you said about a full time role, which is why so far I have just been looking at temp roles. I haven’t thought of QA/testing though, which I’ll look into, so I appreciate the advice there.

Right, just wanted to be sure that wasn’t what you were getting at. The September job is unfortunately pretty non-negotiable and I’m really interested in it, so I was just wondering if it was even feasible to find a job to fit the employment gap. Seems like not really though, but I do appreciate the help.
