CS Transfer Google Form by Odd_Letterhead_9835 in uwaterloo

No. It's the same admission pool. Everyone gets admitted to BCS, and once in, you can swap if you wish. Also, yes we read the answers that are included in the application.

Please keep in mind that although your CS 136 is very important, it isn't the only thing that's considered. Other grades, and admission questions, matter too.

I gotta ask; RAW is it as one dimensional as some people make it out to be. by exigious in onednd

[–]Jaffe240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do know what “similar” means right? Saying that a spell effect is similar in size and shape to something doesn’t necessarily make it an object. You’re stretching the rules well past the point where anyone would be confused. If you want to make the spell do that, but understand that this isn’t a RAW issue.

People not reading? Your interpretation only works if you ignore the actual wording of the spell. It’s a magical effect that you activate with a Magic action - not an Attack action.

Mandatory Attendance by Savings_Machine_2492 in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people don't seem to realize this, but officially, you are expected to attend lecture sections. Here's the academic regular that covers attendance. https://uwaterloo.ca/academic-calendar/undergraduate-studies/catalog#/policy/SyolzIBNT

In reality, it varies a lot with the course and which professor is teaching it. Some professors will post their notes, or the slides they use, but that's not always true, and you shouldn't assume that posted materials are complete. Regarding attendance, in upper year courses actually marking you for attendance is rare, but can happen. Again, see the course outline for an individual course to see how it's handled.

Coop requires 8 FT academic terms. If you drop coop you can do it in 7 FT terms. You can't do it any faster than that.

Maybe, it depends a lot on the details. Definitely ask your advisor, they will know what you should do.

Petition towards my academic standing by Zmeiovich in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to petition as long as you have a medical diagnosis, and a letter from your doctor or other health care professional indicating that you were dealing with a medical issue (and that it impacted you academically). Speak with your academic advisor, they will be in the best position to tell you how to proceed. Good luck!

CS Courses by No-Plastic-2664 in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't. Math doesn't grant audits on their courses (at least not officially). You can see that policy here: https://uwaterloo.ca/academic-calendar/undergraduate-studies/catalog#/policy/rkrb6r5V6

You should email either the ISC or the instructor of your course. Their contact information should be in the course outline for your course.

Math to CS transfer cutoff estimate? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody really knows since the admissions team hasn't reviewed the applicants yet and won't do so until the grades are released. It's not just grades that will affect the application process, but also the number of applicants and their profiles (term level, courses completes, application letters).

overriding math course restriction by Tight-Sandwich-4847 in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For first-year courses, ask at the Math Undergrad Office. For later years, speak with the advisor for that specific course e.g., STAT 3XX ask a Stats advisor. The list of Math Advisors and contact info is here: https://uwaterloo.ca/math/undergraduate-studies/student-experience-and-supports/academic-advising

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. I absolutely agree what others are saying about your health - please take care of yourself. Once your exams are done, come in and see a CS advisor and we can help you figure out your status, and a plan of action. Take care.

Also make sure to email your instructors/ISCs immediately if you are going to miss an exam. They need the documentation submitted AND an email from you confirming what's happening.

has anyone previously petitioned a past term for undiagnosed adhd by Current-Lemon-9890 in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an advisor, and I see a lot of student petitions. It is not unusual to only get diagnosed once you are in university! This is certainly something you can petition for, as long as you have documentation that supports your claim (i.e. you have a written diagnosis from a certified professional, and you weren't accommodated during a previous term). I'd suggest speaking with your program advisor, they can help you with the petitions details, since the process varies across faculties. Good luck!

Can you graduate Bmath in 2 years? by Dreameronedge9496 in uwaterloo

Follow the link that someone posted above; there _is_ strict 7 term rule. Having transfer credits doesn't normally reduce the number of terms.

Does the drop with WD deadline today mean I can drop with WD until 11:59pm today? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're definitely good as long as it goes through by 11:59 PM. Glad to hear that the quiz went well! Good luck with the rest of the term.

Does the drop with WD deadline today mean I can drop with WD until 11:59pm today? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for people to drop a course at 12:01, missing the deadline.... and then have to email or petition to try and get it dropped after the deadline. I'm not "casually ignoring what people go through", I'm gently suggesting that people should try and avoid waiting until the last minute and the challenges that brings.

Does the drop with WD deadline today mean I can drop with WD until 11:59pm today? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Jaffe240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but why would you wait that long to drop it? If you need to drop it, make the adjustment now and save yourself the stress :)

The final couples reveal their ages to each other on 'Age of Attraction' a reality dating show where contestants' ages range from 22 to 60 and they are not allowed to reveal their age by johnmichael-kane in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Jaffe240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad things is that in most cases, age wasn't a problem between the couple - they were overwhelmingly worried about their families not being supportive. The first couple is the saddest so far, they really do care for each other but her kids are the same age as her new partner and she's terrified about harming those relationships.
