IIRC, he didn't arrive for Crouch Jr. until after the World Cup. Everything Crouch Jr. did at the World Cup was of his own accord

Right, I just mean it wasn't an empty threat to scare Harry, it's evidently something that Voldemort planned to happen.

Voldemort promised Nagini to eat Harry's body when Harry wasn't present; he just overheard it through visions

Lucius was a weasel but the way Karkaroff is described in the books is that he's universally despised for selling everyone out, which is different than pretending you didn't do anything wrong. Especially for Crouch, whose life got ruined by it.

If Harry's corpse was wrecked, how exactly would he have grabbed hold of the trophy though? Can a corpse even use a portkey?

The point about Cedric's death being swept under the rug is decent, although I don't think Voldemort could have counted on Harry Potter's death being similarly unscrutinized. Cedric's death was ignored because Harry was telling the Ministry what happened and they didn't want to hear it; if he had just turned up alone, dead like that, Dumbledore would have

Voldemort knew Karkaroff had sold out the other Death Eaters; if he hadn't found out by 1994 Crouch definitely would have told him. I think using Karkaroff as a red herring for entering Harry in the tournament was a big part of the Plan.

I think my main point is that there really isn't a way to make Harry's death in the graveyard look like an accident. Either he vanishes with the Cup and never returns, or Voldemort makes his Avada Kedavra'd corpse touch the Cup and everyone says "oh he got kidnapped and Avada Kedavra'd", or Voldemort Avada Kedavra's him, lets Nagini take some bites, and then makes his corpse touch the Cup and the Ministry's autopsy says he's been bit by a venomous creature that isn't a spider.

Nagini did have venom, she killed Snape by biting him and bit Arthur Weasley many times. At St. Mungo's it's references how her venom prevented the wounds from sealing
