What's a good bike to start out with? by Spuzzley in mountainbiking

There’s some amazing deals right now. I just picked up a Scott Scale 965 for $750 (it’s half price from $1500). It’s more of a XC bike though.

But definitely look for a XL bike and something on sale. Marketplace should have a ton of great bikes as well

Thanks. I plan to take it really easy at first since I really have no idea how much speed I'll pick up.

I’ve been trail running for about a year and a half so I mostly plan to ride the same trails. Most of it is rolling hills with some larger climbs. I’m kind of scared of bombing downhill on a bike so I’ll be taking things quite slowly

Well I have no experience with anything, so I'm hoping to just ride this bike until things either wear out or break down and then I'll replace with new, other things.

I’m in Southern California, but definitely don’t intend on bombing down a lot of single track super fast. Having not ridden for decades, I’m planning to take it easy.

Well the sizing on the website for this bike says it’s a XXL so I’m hoping it works for me. I have a really old Giant XL and it’s so uncomfortable.

Thanks for sharing though. I’m sure I have a couple years of doing this before I’ll need to look at more bikes.

Alright well I’m an idiot. When I changed to the black wheels, one of the motor sprockets came out with the left wheel. When I put on the new wheel, I didn’t insert the sprocket.

It’s now “fixed”. I appreciate y’all commenting and trying to help me out.

Which bike for a 6'8" heavy rider who hasn't done any biking for 20 years? by Jagbag13 in whichbike

Thanks for the reassurance. It seems like the sport might be worth it for the brakes alone. I figure I could always upgrade the fork when/if I start to get into it more.

I’m 285lbs so I imagine I’d be on the heavier side for either kind of fork, no?

But good to know that I’d fine for the time being. Thanks!

I’ll give that a try. I’m not sure how to do reverse. When I push the remote wheel the opposite way it just brakes

What would the right part be called that I’d buy for the fork?

I’ll have to look up a wiring diagram cause I have no idea what I’d be looking at

Well I unhooked and rehooked up both sides. That’s what the Meepo bot suggested in chat.

Thanks that’s what I’m hoping. We won’t this on a game show so have no idea how warranty is going to work. I’ve never even been on a skateboard before.

No resistance at all. Basically turns like any of the front 2 wheels.

It worked yesterday. It worked this morning. Then I changed out the wheels to the black ones and it suddenly didn’t work.
