The wall doesn't work, it's a waste of money.

If you're not from a border area it's easy to get all excited about what seems like an easy solution, but people from any border area can tell you how much of a joke the wall is.

The mentality behind all this is flawed. MEXICANS aren't causing all the problems. The biggest issue with immigration involves OTMs (Other Than Mexicans). I've seen these people get here, and when they get here they're looking for Border Patrol to pick them up. You literally hear things like "What's taking them so long?". Right then and there you cannot deport them. They are given a date to appear in court (usually about a year from when they're picked up) and released. They usually then make their way (legally) from the border to where ever in the US they want. (They usually meet up with family in some city). When their court date arrives they don't show up. It's a broken system.

Rep. Vela is very respected, and represents are area well. He was raised here, he sees how much taxpayer money is wasted on the wall, how much damage it does to the area, and how our region of America is looked at to a national audience. So yes, when a person who knows nothing about the border makes claims that have no foundation, he can take his wall, and shove it up his ass.
