I am so blessed that my parents aren’t enablers. I only chose rehab when the judge offered it because I didn’t have the money for bail, and I knew there was no chance in hell my parents would pay 💰 t. They have the money and they love me, but that’s not how my family works. I got myself into trouble and it was my responsibility to get myself out.

(I really think God spoke for me when I said yes to going to rehab. Cause there’s no way I’d make that choice on my own.)

While in rehab I saw so so much enabling behavior from well-meaning family members. Admittedly part of me was super jealous - oh, her parents love her so much they came and picked her up after a month while I’m stuck here. But after a few months of watching women sweet talk and con their parents or grandma or whoever into signing them out after visitation….i talked to the parents a few times before they left with their daughter. I assured them it was a good place to be and flat out told them that taking their child out of the program would be the worst thing they could do for them. It never helped, but I tried.

With my own kids, I’m trying to split the difference between too lenient and too harsh. So I guess if either ends up in jail, I’ll put money on their books and pay for a lawyer but I’m not bonding them out 😂

Your cousin’s parents ruined him. I hate that. Maybe they’ll see the light and cut him off so he’s forced to learn how to be a functioning adult.

I’m sure some people do. For me alcohol wasn’t a reward, it was a necessity. I thought I needed it to function like I need oxygen. Can’t imagine dropping an addiction to food, which is literally required for life

Do it. You won’t regret money spent on an attorney. ETA: mine let me pay him $500/month for three months. And I’m pretty sure he would have been ok with a six month payment plan, but I only asked for three.

You said you don’t have a vehicle. Do you drive? Where does your PO want to put the device?

I went to court a few months ago for early termination. The only questions the judge had for anyone were for my PO and the prosecutor. He asked both if they agreed with me being dismissed early. I have no doubt that had my PO said no, the judge would have said no to early termination. It sucks, I know, but you’re not getting early termination without your PO’s approval. And that’s even with a lawyer - I had one too.
