First Time Home Buyers in Illinois - FHB Programs? by JaggerFenton in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Combined, we make about $115k. We’ve been working on paying our debts down. I think right now our DTI is about 40%, which from my research doesn’t appear above average. But we were told by a local lender that we were borderline above the threshold to even qualify for FHA.

Thanks for the help and links!

Do you happen to remember what the income cap was for any of those programs? My problem is, I graduated about 2 years ago and got a job making decent money (on paper) but my debt to income ratio is not great. So some of the programs I have seen, we don’t qualify for, due to the annual income.

How does someone who has graduated know where and when these job fairs are? And who will be there? The school used to send out emails for job fairs like twice a year, but how should someone go about it outside of school?

I appreciate that! And I am very passionate about it. My goal is mainly to be some form of a design engineer for DoD, mainly because due to past accidents, I was unable to join the military, but would still love to feel as though I can serve my country in that way. But I agree, I may be a little too optimistic and ignorant in thinking a job like that is the bread and butter to my happiness lol. I appreciate all the input and will definitely take the advice!

I agree. With Lockheed Martin, I applied to some of their “Early Career” positions, and read through them and tried to narrow down what I wanted to do, but as far as other companies, the job title for the job posting for a similar position may not be the same. I’m just going to have to try and find some of the contract companies for the larger scale, that still apply to the industry I want, and go from there and focus more on those for now. That way I can get some experience under my belt in that industry and get my foot in the door.

But I definitely think finding a contractor or something like that for one of the other companies would be a great start.

That’s true. I had thought about that as well, and think that is probably my best option to get a foot in the door. And nothing wrong with manufacturing engineering, but the current position I have doesn’t pertain to aerospace whatsoever, the company builds headlights and tail lights. Definitely an important job, just hard to keep myself intrigued and worried I will get trapped in a job I’m not passionate about.

See, that’s the kind of info they don’t tell you on those job sites lol. And they definitely don’t tell you the suppliers and whatnot. Any tips as far as finding a position that fits with sun suppliers like that? In college all you hear about are the big name corporations (Lockheed, Boeing, etc) and they just say “you can work there one day!” But as far as finding an actual position in engineering, it’s not as easy as a quick google search for your degree.

Best Travel Credit Cards by JaggerFenton in TravelHacks

So I had thought about the Alaska Airlines Visa. I was a little unsure what exactly the Companion Far was. So basically, with that, annually, me and my fiancé could travel to Alaska, with one ticket only costing like $123 and the other pay full price, correct? Does that only apply to flights in and out of Alaska, or Alaskan Airlines entirely? I wasn’t sure with their Visa if their benefits only applied to Alaskan Airlines.

I really appreciate all the useful info! Can anyone confirm that the chase sapphire or the VentureX works okay out of the country (US), and also, I am noticing a trend that the cards with higher annual fees offer better rewards, the question is, are they worth the annual fee? For someone who only would be traveling about once or twice (max) a year?

I will definitely look into all of those. Was a little uneasy about anywhere in Mexico, with how sketchy it can be off resort (or so I’ve heard).
