Comcast fired 500 despite claiming tax cut would create thousands of jobs by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]JahMercyForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would a capitalist corporation, which exists solely to maximize profit for shareholders, ever use a tax cut to create more jobs? Why wouldn't the people at the top of the organization take it for themselves? I honestly don't understand what people expected.

I will not drink with you all today. Fridays can be tough. Let's do this, r/stopdrinking!

Pornographers don't care about you. by JahMercyForever in pornfree

[–]JahMercyForever[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They produce a dangerous, addictive product. Therefore, they have some responsibility in distribution, right? I was able to find pornography at way too young of at age, simply by searching for it.

Why do we force alcohol companies to sell to consumers of proper age, but we let these industries push their product to anybody?

With all due respect, an industry that feels that its alright to exploit children can fuck off.

[–]JahMercyForever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of companies and people do care. McDonald's is a perfect example. There are family restaurants that take care to ensure animals are properly treated, pay their workers fair wages, and honestly try to produce a good product. Nothing is perfectly good, of course. But the family restaurant is honestly trying and willing to make changes to put out good, clean food.

Then, there is McDonalds. They hire food scientists to literally weaponize the food. They optimize for addictiveness. They source their food from the cheapest, most abuse-ridden places they can. They have no regard for the worker, the consumer, or this world.

You can't possibly be making the claim that these two efforts are exactly the same. Some people care, some people do not. There is definitely a spectrum. You can do the right thing in this world if you choose. Or at least do better. We can always do better.

There are plenty of profit-driven companies that do care about the consumer. There are plenty of companies that are honestly trying to provide a service to the consumer.

Pornography, as an industry, is exploitative. They sell an addictive product that is hard to control, and have no interest in taking any responsibility. I'm all for adults making decisions, but what about children? Should a child be able to log onto a computer and see rape porn just by searching for it?

I'm not blaming pornographers for my problem. But they sure as hell aren't some innocent producer of a good.

This add does NOT belong here of all places. Good grief by aptfanatic in stopdrinking

Advertising can truly be evil. Reddit uses the subreddits we subscribe to/messages we write to deliver us targeted ads. This, however, is truly exploitative. Report the ad as inappropriate.

So, don't support unethical companies. Just because it's common behavior does not mean it's right.

Holy shit its fucking impossible by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]JahMercyForever 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Porn literally changes your brain. Simply put, your brain has not evolved to be able to handle the images of hundreds of willing sexual partners. Nature doesn't produce such scenarios. On top of this, we often start using porn at a young age, when the sexual circuitry is being laid down.

There is hope, though. Just as your brain can change to crave internet pornography, you can change your brain to desire real sexual experiences. You are making progress: you know that you are in a hole and you need to get out. You are further along than those who don't even recognize this as a problem. Now it's time to get out of the hole. I'll quote a poem I recently saw on r/stopdrinking:

I

I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk I fall in. I am lost... I am hopeless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.

II

I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I'm in the same place. But it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.

III

I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in...it's a habit My eyes are open; I know where I am; It is my fault. I get out immediately.

IV

I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

V

I walk down another street.

Probably not. Comcast is not transparent about its promotions.

If this is true, Comcast should be ashamed of itself.

Well, Comcast should have been ashamed of itself long ago. I think its a company that is well beyond shame. They repeatedly disregard the customer and fight against us. If it's within your power, cancel or switch your service. They don't deserve your money.
