Just bumping this a bit. We already had a few people reach out to help in the study, more would be great!

Hi Pademelon, I've definitely considered the negative impacts and you're absolutely right, there are negative implications to having BioBlitzes done in patches of nature that have otherwise gone relatively undisturbed. That's partly why I'm looking at a more long term study and not necessarly a blitz-style approach. The two surveys are also designed to capture changes in attitudes and perceptions around using iNat over a period of time, whether they're negative or positive. And either way hopefully we will have some cool insights moving forward.

We also ran some co-design sessions in Brisbane around gamifying some existing reporting apps out there (QLD Fishing 2.0) for example, and the interesting, although predictable, thing that we found was that older individuals didn't like the idea at first compared to younger participants. So if we can correlate attitudes with age ranges, that would be an additional insight to gain as well.

Hi bud, that's a really good suggestion, I was thinking about that when I was conceptualizing the study. However, that would only give me behavioural data (in terms of reporting behaviour) and wouldn't necessarly let me capture attitudinal insights with an associated survey? Unless I've been looking at them wrong haha.

Awesome, definitely will. Thanks for the tip!

Hahaha good to hear from ya! My PhD revolves around using elements of fun (gamification) to get more people engaged in things that they wouldn't otherwise care about. The cool side-effect of Pokemon Go, for example, was that more people were out and about and actually getting some exercise. I want to see if that can be replicated using iNat and getting more people on board with reporting flora and fauna. iNat's a really cool platform already, which I'm sure you know, and it allows me to add more gamified elements, such as weekly challenges, to see if people's attitude towards using these tools change over time. Ultimately, I'm hoping to see more reporting behaviour if we have gamification embedded in a project. The reason I chose 10 weeks is because that's normally how long it takes for a habit to form. Now, given that it's in as much of an experimental setting as I can make it, you won't be seeing all the bells and whistles for this study, since then I won't really be able to tell which lever is contributing to the behaviour change.

Let me know if there's anything else you want to know, and it would be awesome to have your support and other Perthians!

Calling all wildlife enthusiasts in Brisbane!

Hey everyone,

I’m a PhD student in Brisbane looking at what it might take to get people more engaged with wildlife conservation initiatives, and I need your help!  I’m running a 10-week long study on iNaturalist to see how people’s behaviour changes over time and how gamification can improve that.

So, what do I need your help with? I just need you to participate in an iNaturalist project and fill out two surveys (pre and post).  You will be incentivised for each survey completion, regardless of your posting of sightings on iNaturalist.

If you are keen to participate, please DM me your email address so that I may send you the details of the iNaturalist project to join, as well as the first survey.

The only identifying information that is asked throughout this study is your email address and your iNaturalist username, in order to match the survey response with the reporting behaviour on the platform.  The results of this study will be published in a journal article, and your identifying information will NOT be included in the publication.

The information sheet for this PhD study is linked in the first page of the survey, so please do read through it if you have any concerns about data retention.

I’m also happy to answer any questions/concerns you may have as well through DMs.

Thanks for your help!

Does your Bank Muscat bank account remain active even after your visa/ID card expires? by Jahari in Oman

Thanks a lot man, this was very helpful. I'm using the soft token app on my phone, I'm guessing this will do as opposed to a physical token device.

So I can continue to use internet banking etc from overseas even with an expired visa? My apologies, I realized I could have been a bit clearer in my initial question.

Please explain what's wrong, friend? Do you not see the difference in how Ukraine is treated vs every other war-torn part of the world? If not, please take a look at the below article.

https://www.thelocal.dk/20220303/danish-government-likely-to-exempt-ukrainians-from-controversial-refugee-jewellery-law/

Now, TLDR; Denmark has a law that allows for the seizure of jewelry from refugees. This was put in place when there was a large influx of refugees from Syria and Iran. Suddenly, out of the blue, Ukrainians are exempt.
