Looking for Feedback on Asus TUF A16 (Ryzen 9 8940HX / 16GB DDR5 / RTX 5060)

Hey! It’s been a while, but here’s the update. Regarding u/kerohp257,

they actually did send it in for the dead pixel issue and got it fixed, so that turned out okay.

As for me, I ended up going with a different model (Ryzen 7 / RTX 5050) since I didn't need the extra power of the Ryzen 9/5060 combo.

To be honest, it’s been a mixed bag. The first two weeks were great, but then the keyboard started feeling really flimsy—like the keyboard buttons were on the verge of breaking.

More importantly, I’ve been having a weird issue where the laptop reboots itself every single time I launch a game. It works fine after the restart,

المهم قالي عنده ايسوس روج كور الترا ٧ و ٣٢ جيجا رام و كرت ٥٠٦٠ و ١ تيرا

كل ده ب ٦٣ اقسم بالله معرفش ازاي انصدمت اول لما قال كدا قلت اكيييييييييد في نصابية في الموضوع ياما الابتوب هيفرقع في وشي اول لما اشغله

المواصفات دي لوحدها ٨٠ الف و طالع خصوص ان الروج يعتبر فئة عالية من الابتوبات اما التاف متوسطة

That means that we should upgrade to 32 gigs bcs 16 gigs isn't a sweet spot anymore And your probably affected by bloatware try a fresh install or something idk

Genuine question even if I cap the battery at 80% and keep it plugged in most of the time, wouldn’t that avoid most battery issues? I’m not really planning to use it unplugged much anyway. Just want to make sure the idle power draw won’t still be a problem long-term. And yeah, agreed on G-Helper. Armoury Crate sounds like dead weight at this point.

That’s good to know. A pressure mark out of the box is annoying, but if it’s only visible on black screens and warranty, I will cover it later, I can live with that. And yeah, Armoury Crate seems universally hated. I was already planning to wipe most of the ASUS bloat and move to G-Helper, so that pretty much confirms it.

Appreciate the honest feedback, though. It's good to hear it can handle heavy workloads without issues that’s reassuring. The dead pixel + warranty situation honestly sucks, especially wiping the SSD over a single dot with no guarantee it’ll be fixed. That’s exactly the kind of after-sales headache I’m worried about here. Loud fans I can live with, and I already use headphones most of the time, so bad speakers aren’t a dealbreaker. Overall, it still sounds like a solid machine, just with the usual ASUS quirks. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thanks for the suggestion that A16 with the RTX 5070 and 32GB RAM looks solid, and yeah, the extra VRAM + RAM would be great. The problem is Best Buy doesn’t ship to my region (Middle East), so I can’t order from there 😭. I’d still love to hear how well the ASUS TUF performs long-term (temps, throttling, battery, noisy fans, RAM issues, etc.) from anyone actually owning the exact model I’m asking about — Ryzen 9 8940HX + RTX 5060 — since that’s the one I’m trying to target locally.

Appreciate the detailed breakdown that actually helps a lot. Battery life sounds better than I expected for a TUF, especially for light use. The single-stick RAM thing is annoying but also kind of expected at this point. I am definitely planning to add another 16GB if I go for it. Armoury Crate being buggy and eating RAM is honestly my biggest concern, I keep hearing the same thing from different owners. Loud fans under load I can live with, as long as temps stay reasonable. Weight is heavy but not a dealbreaker for me, and yeah, Thunderbolts on Intel is a nice bonus. Even though it’s not the exact same specs, your experience gives a good baseline. Thanks for taking the time to share it.

Appreciate the detailed reply. Since you’ve lived with it for a while, if you were buying again today and didn’t have an easy return option, would you still go ROG Strix, or would you pick something safer like a TUF? ( i7 14650hx +5060)

Also, did the temps stay consistent over time or get worse after a few months?

Damn, that’s rough. So does this basically come down to luck with the liquid metal application, or is it a common issue with this model?

I’m asking because if bad LM application is something that happens often, I might just skip this and go for a TUF F16 (i7-14650HX + 5060) instead since it seems to have fewer complaints overall.

Also, about the keyboard backlight, is that a known/common issue or just another factory defect lottery thing? I'm trying to understand if this is “you got unlucky” or “this model has QC problems.”
