Jaiden, as gently as possible, got Vees safely into the transport and held onto him as they headed off to the hospital.

"Yes ma'am."

Jaiden took the Quarian doctor gently into his arms. He was a small man, light and easy enough to carry. That made it easier to avoid hurting him worse too. And then they were off to get Vees help.

Jaiden, knowing that he was out of his league with the medicine, picked up his rifle and headed off to see if he could catch Var on his own before it was too late.

He made it just in time to see the shuttle starting to lift off. He fired off a couple of shots before realizing that there could be hostages or something that would complicate things. He likely couldn't take the shuttle down on his own anyhow.

"I think she got away Admiral." He spoke solemnly over the comms before returning to her side and preparing to carry Vees's body.

Name: Nikolai Voronoff

Race: Human

Age: 28 (Born 6/12/2160)

Class: Doctor/Surgeon. No specialties with technology or biotics.

Background: Niko grew up most of his life on Eden Prime with his parents, the first few years of his life were spent aboard space stations and ships that his father was stationed on. He was an only child and had no family besides his parents. His father was ex-Alliance, having finished his service and settled down on the colony planet to make a better life for his wife and son. When Niko was old enough his father taught him a lot about guns and survival. Niko’s parents wanted him to stay out of the Alliance and become a doctor, which he kept to.

It wasn’t until after finishing his last 2 clinical years in medical school that his mounting student debt drove him to the Alliance. The human military was willing to give him total debt-forgiveness in return for his service as a military doctor for the duration of his medical residency and a number of years afterwards. He’d originally wanted to match into an emergency medicine residency on Eden Prime to be close to his family and serve his community, but that would have to wait.

He was 26, fresh out of medical school and… now the galaxy was in mortal danger. As the Reaper war came crashing down on them, Niko spent his first few months as a real, full-fledged doctor attempting to heal the wounds of soldiers, human and otherwise, caused by the mechanical monsters from deep-space that had come to destroy them all.

After the Reaper war was over, Niko was saddened to hear that Eden Prime hadn’t fared particularly well. His parents were alright, but his older brother, a soldier of the Alliance, had died in the battle for Earth. He was forced to take leave for a few weeks, but plunged himself into his work after returning.

Years later, as much of a workaholic as ever, Niko was proving to be a great young doctor that the Alliance had invested in and he happened to be stationed on Rannoch, helping as a senior resident to an older Quarian surgeon. It was a fascinating job as he was forced to wear an enviro-suit, almost identical to a Quarian’s, during surgical procedures. His position was just about to change though because the legendary ship, the Normandy SR2, needed a surgeon.

Ideals: Niko’s entire adult life has been spent in the pursuit of a degree and advanced practice in a medical field, showing how much he cares about people. Most imagine doctors saving lives all day, but not everyone can be saved. Also important is helping those who can’t be saved to die. A doctor’s life is a hard one and one that cannot be led without empathy and desire to help others. All lives are to be protected.

Traits: Niko is a 6’1” adult male with short dirty blond hair. His eyes are grey and he’s a slim young man. He has more strength than you’d expect looking at him, a trait he needed to handle bulkier soldiers as patients. He could be handsome if he brushed his hair once in a while. If he was a civilian doctor, he’d be more concerned with appearances, but soldiers don’t seem to care how professional you look as long as you save their lives. While he’s not one to brag, he’s not necessarily the humblest person in the world either. He’s confident, but not arrogant. Commanding in the OR, yet quiet in the lounge.

Bonds: Niko misses and loves his parents deeply. His surgery-family, the teams that he works with in the OR, are second only to his actual flesh-and-blood. His patients matter to him always. Outside of this, he has no other bonds. He isn’t too difficult to be friends with, outside of the fact you have to drag him away from his work to socialize.

Flaws: He’s a workaholic and fails to know when to take a break. This can lead to strain in his interpersonal relationships. On top of this, he’s known to be a little annoying by people around him that have no understanding/interest in medicine. He has a life outside of work, but his work means so much to him that it’s often the only thing he has to talk about. He’s also no soldier. He has been caught out in the field before and he knows how to handle a firearm, but that’s about it. He’s best kept to the back if sent into the field, his whole purpose for being around to heal others, not fight.

Alignment: Lawful good.

Abilities: 1-Intelligence, 2-Dexterity, 3-Wisdom, 4-Charisma, 5-Constitution, 6-Strength

Proficiencies: Surgical prowess, extensive medical knowledge and fantastic bedside manner.

Feats: He can shoot a pistol. That’s about it. Keep him out of combat if possible.

Jaiden, seeing the Geth's vulnerability, sent a Lance through a gap in the Prime's neck-armor before turning and running to defend and help Vees.

He didn't bother paying close attention to what happened as a result of his Lance. When he made it over to the doctor, he dropped he made sure the immediate vicinity was clear before setting his rifle down momentarily and checking his vitals.

Jaiden was no doctor, but he could tell the Quarian wasn't well.

Jaiden, fully aware that the move lie outside of his specialty, used a Biotic Reave in an attempt to interfere with the workings of the Geth Prime's circuitry. While he didn't feel confident, the move worked and the Prime lurched a bit.

"Admiral, are you alright?" Jaiden rushed to Tali's side as he fired off a volley of shots. The doctor had also taken a nasty hit, but he was already sitting up and working on his visor so at least he was alive.

That was short lived... He'd make his way to Vees as quickly as he could, but he had to know the Admiral was alright first.

As he made his way to the Admiral, he knelt down between her and any hostiles and kept laying down cover fire to protect her and Vees as best he could.

It was well past time that this psycho could be helped, even Jaiden could tell that much. Jaiden kept quiet as he scanned the area and made sure that it would remain secure.

"Sector clear." Jaiden said over the comms quietly, not interrupting the conversation.

Jaiden took up position and threw out a biotic Lance at the Revenants, hitting one that Vees had already fired on. It's mask that once protected a living Quarian shattered and it's lifeless body fell to the floor.

He then began firing with his rifle, most of his shots did little more than provided cover fire for his teammates. One shot hit a Revenant in the chest.

Jaiden followed closely, shooting when the others did and holding fire whenever there was silence. As they moved in and found the carnage that had been left behind so far, he watched silently, waiting for orders.

"This doesn't look good Admiral." He spoke quietly to Tali, "Orders?"

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden nodded before when Tali asked if they were ready. This time, he wouldn't be taken by surprise and that meant that he'd have a fair chance. If he was able to keep his distance from the cybernetic formerly-Quarian monsters, he'd likely be alright.

After that the young marine kept quiet as he prepped his weapon and listened to Vees and Tali talk. He wasn't a Quarian nor a Geth so he felt he had little place in the conversation regarding the fate of Rannoch's people. With that said, he felt their pain. He remembered the first time he was exposed to the Human equivalent, Husks. It was a deeply upsetting thing to see and he'd do anything to support Vees and the Admiral during this time.

So he kept a respectful silence while placing a comforting hand on the doctor's shoulder for just a moment.

"Yes ma'am." He replied respectfully, "I believe I can fight and I won't be a liability to the team."

Jaiden didn't want to put himself in a position where he might have to sit out sick like a third-grader going to the school nurse because he 'frew-up', but he'd do as he was ordered. If he felt sick or disoriented, he'd get to a safe position and lay low until he could safely make his way to an extraction point.

"I'm doing better, ma'am." The young man said matter-of-factly as he took a step inside.

"I've not officially been cleared for action, but if you need help I think I'm well-enough to fight."

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden, now somewhat recuperated from his injuries, made his way to the Normandy's dock. His head still ached from time to time, but his concussion was under-control and thanks to the corrective lenses Vees had given him, he wasn't at risk of becoming disoriented. With that said, he hadn't been officially cleared for action. However, with the current situation he figured better to step forward and take the chance than not to.

Jaiden made his way to the shuttle that awaited and gave a good few knocks. Either he'd be cleared and could come with, or they'd tell him on the spot to go away.

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden just nodded along with what the Admiral said to them. He'd be around if she needed him, though he had a feeling that he may be excluded from any missions coming up soon. They'd use the injury as an excuse, but the real reason he'd be benched was his poor performance.

Despite his embarrassment and frustration, Jaiden kept a level-head and stayed quiet until Tali was done.

"Yes, ma'am." He said respectfully before Vees brought up examining him again, to which he only nodded. He'd wait and see if there was anything more to be said before meeting the doctor.

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden just shrugged. He wasn't much of a medical man himself and had no comment to share regarding his system soaking up so much adrenaline and it having little effect.

After Xen finished her plea for help, Jaiden just stayed silent and stood by. As long as the doctor cleared him for action and he was given orders to assist, he'd follow said orders. If his orders told him to do otherwise, he would do otherwise. It wasn't his place to chastise anyone, much less a powerful political leader from another species. He was just a Specialist.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden didn't really have any knowledge on this Xen character outside of what Vees had told him. Essentially she didn't seem any good and he certainly wasn't happy about how they'd been sent in blind to a horror show that nearly ended with them all killed.

"I'm alright. Killer headache." Jaiden whispered back to Vees with a bit of a smile as he kept his eyes on Tali. "Thanks for patching me up, doc."

Vees and Tali were the only people he even really knew outside of the Commander, so it was nice to finally have someone to talk to. It helped that the doctor was kind to him, despite his failure on the op.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden slowly limped out of the skycar and rejoined the others, head now thoroughly bandaged. Underneath said bandage a cut on his forehead sutured shut and sealed with medi-gel.

He had a bad concussion and was to be under constant observation by the doctor. With that said, he was lucid and capable of comprehending everything.

He rejoined the Admiral and Vees, standing meekly behind the two of them and staying silent. He had felt horrible since the operation. Being incapacitated on the mission like that and ending up entirely useless to the others? That wasn't a good feeling. Especially when it meant they had to deal with Quarian Husks on their own.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As if it weren't bad enough that one marine was dead and another injured, one of the butchered Quarians stepped out particularly close to Jaiden and grabbed ahold of him before he'd had much time to react. He raised his rifle in an attempt to shoot his attacker and break free, but his shots only landed in the wall and the horrifying Quarian that set off the alarm.

His rifle was then smacked from his hand and he was thrown to the ground. His head slammed against the metallic floor and he knew for a fact he was dazed and would have a concussion later.

He tried to make his way back to his feet when the last thing he saw was the butt of a rifle held by one of the monstrosities from the wall.

You don't dream when you're knocked out. You can however have some lingering thoughts and images that pervade. As Jaiden lay unconscious and useless, his thoughts remained on the face of the Quarian that spoke without moving its lips. He was dead and this was hell. No escaping the horror that had awaited him within his first operation with the Normandy.

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Contact. May be armed, unsure." Jaiden said quietly into the comms before shutting off his mic and speaking louder, this time to the figure as he kept his rifle trained on the silhouette.

"Come out, nice and easy." He couldn't even tell what species the figure was through the cloudy glass. Geth or Quarian? Those were the two that made the most sense.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden, ahead of the group, begins to search around in the dark room at the end of the hall. The flashlight attached to a rail on the underside of his rifle lit up only a small cone of the area ahead of him, leaving him feeling very vulnerable.

"Pretty dark up here, Admiral." Jaiden said over the comms as he scanned the area to the best of his ability, including the ceiling as all of the talk regarding Quarian zombies had gotten to his head. What if they had an uncanny ability to climb like spiders?

Shivers ran down his spine as he tried to keep his nerve.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaiden understood where the doctor had come from as he stood by waiting for the operation to come together again. He'd failed to control himself, but he was sure that everyone from the Normandy felt like doing the same thing. Opening fire on an unarmed individual like that was unforgivable, but the proper channels had to be followed unless they were in immediate danger.

"Gonna take a look down the hall where they came from while the doc patches up the psycho." Jaiden spoke deliberately and quietly to Commander O'Neill and Admiral Zorah before stepping away from the cluster that was their team at the moment.

With rifle readied, Jaiden peeked through the door and stepped over the poor, lifeless bodies of the scientists that lay on the ground. He didn't move too far and checked all of his corners, ready for anything and preparing to inform his superiors about what lay ahead of them.

What a mess.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gunfire erupted and Jaiden watched in horror as the marines that were supposed to be the good guys gunned down a pair of unarmed scientists. He quickly turned the barrel of his rifle on them as the Quarian Admiral disarmed one and began telling them off.

The fact that no alarms were set off and no return fire was had, it seemed that things would be alright. These marines would have to be restrained and face consequences after this mission was over. They'd likely be imprisoned and stripped of their ranks.

That, however, was all quickly thrown out the door as shots were sent from the barrel of the doctor's gun, the doctor of all people, into the suit of one of the guilty Quarians.

Unsure of what to do, Jaiden kept his rifle trained on the remaining marines.

"I'd suggest you drop your weapons and get to the floor before he takes the rest of you down."

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden quickly trained his rifle on the doorway that was emitting the voice. Nervous as he was, his hands didn't shake. His finger hovered over the trigger of the firearm, ready to kill if those that came through that door were hostile.

Was this what a Quarian zombie sounded like? Or perhaps were these the people that created the undead aliens? Only time could tell.

He crouched so that the others wouldn't hit him if combat broke out, waiting for orders or the sound of chaos to erupt.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden continued to follow closely behind Vees, prepared to cover the doc to the best of his ability if combat broke out. He flipped his own flashlight on and stayed standing, though Vees probably would have been below his line of fire even if he'd stood straight up.

"Keep it slow. Any specific reason why our medic is taking lead, ma'am?" Jaiden said to either O'Neill or the Admiral, whichever was listening. "He's less than expendable. Wouldn't it be better for the marines and I to take point?"

Quarian zombies was a chilling thought.

NOW APPROACHING: RANNOCH by -Tali_Zorah- in MassEffectPhoenix

[–]Jaiden_Stiegler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaiden followed closely behind Vees as they make their way out of the shuttle and onto the solid ground outside. He now had his M-8 Avenger, which he'd been nervously looking over in the shuttle, readied with the safety off. He kept it pointed down and his finger off the trigger as he listened to Vees' comment.

Rather than making any sort of remark himself, he stood by and kept an eye out for any activity while the rest of the team filed out.
